Re: Your favorite clothing companies?

I've seen some cool stuff in the thrift store. My favorite find was a T-shirt that had a picture of Lenin and it read "BOWLSHEVIKS: Unite and Strike!"

I'm still pretty miffed I didn't pick it up, but I was a naive anarchist at the time and couldn't suck up my pride.

Re: Your favorite clothing companies?

It’s kinda funny how some of you view clothes. It’s like you’re saying if you’re not thrifty and shop at Goodwill and such you’re going to be and look like a douche for buying brands.

It’s like what Lloyd said, if you understand style then you know being thrifty isn’t too much of an option when it’s the brands who actually have professional designers who’s job it is to make people look good in clothes. I understand that it can look stupid when people spend gratuitously on clothes just because they’re expensive.

But here’s the thing, spending good money on good, quality clothes from brands is not much different than spending good money on, say, good video games/video game systems. You can spend less money on a cheap used game that will hold you over for a while but you’ll stop playing soon, or you can spend $60 on a good, well reviewed game that will last you. Same thing with clothes. Often I find cheap, thrifty clothing brands and stores have lesser build quality and definitely don’t look as good as good as what you can find at brand stores.

If you’re not into or understand style and don’t want to spend the little extra to do it, then you’re outfit will reflect that. I’m not saying you have to spend $100+ on jeans, but there’s a lot of good brands that have good jeans for 20-60.

Some some of the stores you think are expensive aren’t. Stores like Aeropostale and American Eagle ALWAYS have deals going these days. Like ‘buy one thing, get another for half off, or buy two things, get 20% off your perchance’ and their clothes aren’t expensive to begin with. Just a couple examples. Even then, look in the clearance section. Those clothes are only a month or two old. And most stores mark down clothes every week by 10-20$. Actually LOOK around stores instead of making assumptions that all the clothes are overpriced and douchy. And if you can find brands way cheaper at department stores, go for it.

A similar point was made earlier, but I have to agree once more. There's a difference between style and just throwing away crazy amounts of cash. Prices don't always reflect quality or good deals. You could say I'm leaning towards the middle on this.

Re: Your favorite clothing companies?

I think it really matters if one really understands style/fashion. I've seen friends walk into Wal Mart and come out wearing an outfit that you would never think originated from Wal Mart. So, I think that anyone can look good, no matter where they get their clothes. However, I do agree that the durability of the clothes depends heavily on the brand name (most of the time).

Anyways!

As for myself, I have a few shops I like to go to first when I go to my local mall: De-tox, West 49, H&M, Jacob Connexion. However, it's not limited to these shops. I've literally shopped all over, and just from my experience these shops mostly have things that are appealing to me.

Re: Your favorite clothing companies?

Soonish (once I get my PayPal account sorted, pretty much) I'm having a major cleanout of my clothes and going to try and sell the stuff I no longer wear in order to fund buying some new stuff. I went to Tree of Life in the city yesterday and tried on some really nice stuff, but I'm too small for anything nice to fit, ahhh.

I find it really hard to believe anybody here knows how to dress. I know I don't. When I was a teenager I looked like I lived on the streets.

Re: Your favorite clothing companies?

I tried to avoid this topic at all costs because I simple just don't care for name brands but I do have to admit that Dickies do make a good pair of pants and Vans make comfortable shoes. For the most part though I buy whatever I like as long as its not expensive.

H&M I suppose. I don't really have a "favorite" and I don't shop for clothes that often.

You can still have style with thrift store clothing, you know. It's called you actually make it yourself. If you're lucky, you will actually find that same designer T-shirt there that somebody else threw away because they didn't like it or it went out of style.

And why do you just have to get that clothing style now? Why not wait? Hell, sometimes you can find the same type of T-shirt that you saw at that brand store at the thrift store for a lot less. Your comparison also reflects the whole whorish consumerist attitude in this country, that you have to get the new thing now or forever be out of style. Also, I don't see what's the problem with buying a used video games, they do have great games that are used, so again your comparison doesn't make sense.

If I want to look stylish, it'll be for a formal event, and I mean formal. Not some run-of-the mill house party, but a ball, prom, wedding, interview, or whatever else. My everyday wear is just a nice looking T-shirt or a pair of pants, that's about it. If people want to judge me on my clothes, then I don't even bother talking to these people because they are shallow whores. I'll wear what I think looks good, thanks.

And who's to say that I don't like what some brands have? Hell, many of these brands actually have cool designs, its just that most of the time I don't have the money and usually get them on discount, clearance, or its given to me. I just don't swear brand loyalty to any clothing company because get this, they're just clothes. They're not making something revolutionary, just something that looks good. As long as it has a cool logo or design, I'll buy it, brand be damned.

No joke Nox! High five!
Ive shopped and bought things at mall stores but simply because i liked how they looked. Also its always on clearance because i really cannot afford to spend 60 bucks on a cute top. Hip style can cost alot. One: I dont really care about whats trendy. And two: I simply DO NOT have that kind of money! If something i see on a clothing rack is trendy but i find it cute, ill buy it if its cheap enough. If not, no, im not gonna do it!
I totally totally agree with Nox. He said it all.

Re: Your favorite clothing companies?

I'm a big fan of Volcom, Billabong, and Hollie (see: Pac Sun)
I also lovelovelove Empyre (Zumiez)
I get most of my jeans/pants from Pac Sun, Hollister, and ocassionally Abercrombie&Fitch.
American Eagle's jeans don't fit me too well, dunno why. But I like their shirts and stuff. Got a bridesmaid's dress from there a few years ago. :]

My shoes are basically vans, uggs, or converse. I have a few pairs of heels and flats and tons of sandals. Nothing of importance really.

I love Kohls though. I can get anything I'd like there. Plus they carry Abbey Dawn, and we fit exactly the same. ;3
I've recently learned how to shop thrift stores and such, since my new friend Carolynn is all into vintage. We hunt anything down. Its pretty neat.

I'm quite fickle, I don't like spending a ton of money on clothes. The only thing I'll splurge on are dresses. From a boutique, and custom. That's how I roll, thanks to mom's influence.

OMG I love kohl's. they have name brand stuff for folks who like that, plus other non-brand stuff (well, it HAS a brand, but none that most people care about)

The cool thing abot kohl's is that they have such a high volume of merchandise, that the clearance racks are always packed with great stuff!

9 times out of 10, the people I see that wear that crap and swear to them are usually shallow people. Just talking to them is testament enough.

South Pole, Baby Phat, Fabulousity, and a little bit of Echo. Other than that, I just get whatever is relatively cheap and filled with shiny. I pretty much find this stuff at outside markets and thrift shops, though, where merchants steal or find these clothes and sell them uber cheap. They're too expensive in the actual stores. :<
