On a little sad note...

I have a golden retriever, and her name is Jet. Earlier this morning she threw up her food. Later this evening, her face began to swell up as well as her privates too. We gave her some Benadryll(sp.) to reduce the swelling, and about 15 minutes ago she threw up again, with the benadryll pills too. Her gums are starting to change colour now too, which isn't looking so good. She is being rushed to the the veterinary hospital right now.

We jumping to conclusions, one being that she got bitten by a spider, which might have caused her swelling. The throwing up part, not to sure.

Anyways, I just hope my dog is going to be alright.

I hope your dog will be okay indeed. That is sad: I was very worried when one of my dogs was throwing up as well.

Get better, Jet.

GOOD NEWS,

My dog came back from the vet and she's doing a lot better now. Apparantly her heart rate dropped pretty bad, giving the vets a scare. She should feel back to normal over the next 24 hours or so. I'm just happy that she's alright!

This better not be your dog faking her death. I love golden retrievers and if she is, I'm gonna troll you for the rest of your life.

Obviously kidding of course, it's good your dog's gettin' better.

I know how it feels to lose a pet, so I can really relate to how worried you were.
You sound like a really good person and I'm glad that dog has you as an owner.

Good! But what caused the heart troubles to begin with?

In related news, I'm getting worried about my almost 13-year-old black lab. She's very lethargic, with a perpetually dry nose, and she coughs and hacks a lot. She could be close to the end.

Don't you think that's a bit harsh? When someone/something you love is hurting, possibly dying, you don't think entirely straight. They probably panicked, you can't blame them for that.

Re: On a little sad note...

you can give benadryl to dogs, actually. I think it can be used to help with allergies. but you should really ask a vet beforehand. .__.

Yeah..... I actually want to apologize for that post, I was feeling crap when I posted that, and I love animals and that just threw me over. I feel really bad for posting that now. Sorry

But even still, why the hell did you give her allergy medicine? Really, what difference did you think it would make?

Re: On a little sad note...

We asked the vet, and they said to give her some benadryll to help reduce the swelling. It's not like we just gave it to her freely, we asked the vet first, or more so the vet recommended that to us so we did it. So that part was ok.

We don't know what exactly is wrong with her though. Like I said earlier, we are still trying to pin point down what exactly may have caused all this, and so far all we can think of is that she may have gotten bit by a spider, or maybe got her mouth on some unecessary cleaner when she went to get groomed....I'm not to sure what the cause was.

Last night at the vet her heart rate dropped significantly and she almost went into shock, she justleft to go back to the vet again to get a check up. She tried eating again this morning, then rigt away went to the bathroom, then she ended throwing up again. Jet's probably having some digestive problems...so yeah. Swelling has dropped right down though.

All in all, shes doing much better then yesterday, and we'll see when Jet gets back from the Vet this morning.

Re: On a little sad note...

That's great to hear. When my dog started throwing up her food, first we thought it was pancreitis , then found out it was cancer. We had to put her down a few months after that. :'(

I don't think Golden Retrievers are so prone to such things though, so I'm glad she's feeling better.
