possible explanations as to why the universe exists

God and the devil had a fiddle contest, and God won. Becuase the Devil had already lost his golden fiddle to Johnny, God got to create the universe instead.

God created the universe because he wanted to make a place for a being that would praise by choice. God had the Angels and other heavanly beings to praise him, but that wasn't fulfilling, the Angels and others were made to praise him. God wanted something special, so he made the uiverse and man, then gave man free will. So man could choose weather or not to praise God.

Universe exists by a stroke of luck.

Whilst sipping coffee, smoking, and listening to Anner Bylsma during break today, I arbitrarily decided that if God and Lucifer were real:

the only difference between the two of them is that God can see invisible things while Lucifer relies on reductionism and reverse engineering to perceive what God see's naturally. Thus why he's eager to get so many souls because it's like his science experiment so that when he grows up he can do invisible things just like God can.

Now this posses a bit of a problem:

Can we still call Christianity a monotheistic religion having considered these hypothetical musings?

Chritianity is Monotheistic as it believes in One God. They only call God, God. They don't call Satan or anything else God.

^ but if the devil can control you and demons posses you that technically gives him god-like powers, no?

if so doesn't that technically make Christianity a dual-theistic religion (counting the trinity as one god-head figure rather than 3 of course.)

Satan dosen't make you do anything, he whispers things into your mind, he's the voice that tells you to do bad things. As far as demons possesing you, I think it's a case of them tricking you into letting them do it. And god-like powers don't make him a god, they make him god-like, an imitation.
If I remember correctly Satan, was of the highest ranking angels.

^the first part only works though assuming that free will is indeed real, correct?

as for the angel thing....I can roll w/ that for now, although it opens up a very large and messy can of worms.

I"m just relaying what I've heard at the moment, (not necessarily what I believe), and yes the explanation assumes free will.

Whether or not you can consider Christianity Monotheistic depends on what sect. Catholics pray to Saints and ask for favors. They also seem to have a particular belief in the divinity of Mary.

God created the universe as a place to create beings which he would then proceed to try and convince he both did and did not exist by providing contradictory evidence and appearing before random people in the desert.

I think the existence of the universe is a bit too broad of a topic for us now. We should really focus more on, you know, saving ourselves before worrying about that. :3

Maybe the universe expands for billions/trillions of years, then starts contracting to the point of the big bang. (and repeat)

So like this young mutant school girl who can wrap reality, Wanda Maximoff I think her name was or whatever was *****ing and moaning about how everyone was normal and she wanted to be special suffered a mental breakdown in which she created an universe in which she and her family could rule over all of us. She also created a sub-speices of human call "Mutants".

Well anyways, three mutants decided to follow this God-like being. Cable, a time travelin' mutant, Madam Web, an esper-like mutant, and Venom, an alien life-form mutant protects Scar- I mean Wanda for some reasons unknown.

And that how the story went and this is totally not a homage to X-MEN, House of M, or the Haurhi Suzumiya series.

In all seriousness because I'm like two months away from having a warn removed from my record, I believe that God created the universe. Why? I don't know and besides, I would just wind up copying what everyone else who believe in the Chirstian God have already stated.

The universe exists because some random deity wanted to prove the existence of infinity. It didn't work out.

There you are wrong. Yes, they pray to the saints and believe Mary is divine, but they still only call God, God. A Monotheistic religion believes in one God. Therefore Christianity is monotheistic. Even when praying to the saints and Mary they are only asking them to speak to God on their behalf.

Well, semantics dictates I'm wrong about my non-monotheist claims.

Now you've only presented the further question of why I would ask someone to talk to God on my behalf if he is apparently omniscient and omnipresent.

It's like a friend putting in a good word with the boss of a business. The boss already knows everything about you but an added good would could get you preference.

But what if the boss is omniscient and literally knows EVERYTHING about me? Wouldn't a recommendation at that point be kind of redundant?

I mean think about it like Santa Claus. You don't write him recommendation for people because he knows if you've been bad or good.
