Re: Why do a lot of people dislike TP so much?

Anyway, the reason people don't like TP as much as other games is really quite simple. They're arrogant. Once they decide a game is their favorite, they aren't likely to change their minds. Before TP came out, there were thousands of people wondering if it would be better than, say, OoT. In reality, though, they've subconciously decided it won't be. People are simply too proud of their favorite game to let anything else top it. They pick one game, usually OoT (Probably due to it being the first 3D Zelda and/or their first Zelda game) and like it for reasons such as "It was good for it's time!" or "It was my first Zelda!" because they know that no matter how good a game is, Nintendo cannot make another game be their first Zelda. Then they are disappointed when Nintendo doesn't make another game be their first Zelda. Har har har. |

Re: Why do a lot of people dislike TP so much?
well, personally, I enjoy tWW far more than I enjoy OoT, but thats simply a matter of opinion.
I think that a certain population didn't enjoy TP quite as much as they thought they would simply because of one word... "hype" TP was truly a golden example of an overhyped game, the was Aonuma and miyamoto talked about TP, and gave us little hints: "flight won't be impossible".... "you'lle see ganondorf in a whole new light" "the twilight realm is a whole other world zelda fans, and the zelda universe have never even imagined before" To a certain extent, I have to say, damn your aonuma for not living up to your word, however, the final product was infact, a zelda game, and a damn good one, just not the zelda game miyamoto had led us to imagine.

Re: Why do a lot of people dislike TP so much?
^ I agree, tWW was good. But I love TP too. It had a damn good storyline (despite the time it took to get going), good graphics (with an adult-ish link, which is cool), and I liked the bosses as well. They were pretty cool, and I wouldnt say any of them were 5-second complete easy, say, walk in and take half a minute to beat them the first time, so that was good. Also, the world was great. It had plenty of places to explore, and plenty of side quests. Great scenery too.

Re: Why do a lot of people dislike TP so much?
IMO TP is the best Zelda game to date, the best graphics for sure. But it also had great characters and character development, great gameplay, great music and great entertainment value.

Re: Why do a lot of people dislike TP so much?
Q: Why do a lot of people dislike TP so much?
A: Lots of reasons I didn't like it. It was the first and only 3d Zelda without Fire/Ice/Light Arrows, a Magic Meter (there was even Magic Armor), or a Mirror Shield (I looked forward to an awesome new design to it this time around). It is also the first and only Zelda game in existence to not feature Octoroks as a remembered foe. This broke the perfect attendance award the enemy received in-game in Zelda: The Wind Waker. Okay, so, you may say that the game didn't need any of these things, but I think it did because it lacked in so much that made it a satisfactory Zelda or even a good game at all. There was a lot that could have been done to it. Where was the shooting gallery? There was a marketplace and a village that easily could have had one. They had the Hero's Bow in the game, Wii Remote targeting, and even Epona if they wanted some horseback archery for old times' sake. Instead, they decided to get you the quiver upgrades through a game that doesn't even relate to a bow and arrow, I found that random. And a bug-crazed little girl gives you the wallet upgrades? Why don't they explain her fascination with money because she seems to have so much of it for you? They could have had Jovani give you the wallet upgrades for bringing him back Poe Souls, instead of a simple bottle for the first time and nothing for the second time. It was also much too easy, the easiest and smallest of all Zelda games in my opinion. There was not much to do, and what there was seemed very forced into the game like there was no creativity behind it, unlike titles such as Majora's Mask and The Wind Waker (there was a lot of personality behind every sidequest in those). I liked the design of some of it, like the new and improved Clawshot, and Link, Ganondorf, and Zelda's amazing new looks, but there are others that were just out of place. Character models like the Goron Elders and Great Fairies were just odd and could have been better. They also ruined the Gorons and Zoras, they aren't the peoples you loved to be around and just talk with longer than you expected you would like in other games. No, now they are totally out-of-character and I didn't like the change. So, my conclusion is that Twilight Princess is quite a cool game, but the worst Zelda there is out there. It just felt like Nintendo let someone different make the whole game and they just told us it was the same team. ![]() |

Re: Why do a lot of people dislike TP so much?
I quite like TP. It's among my favourite Zelda games.
Granted, it could have been better, but for what it was, it was good. And as for the similar to OoT thing, is that a bad thing? OoT is often rated as "one of the best games ever", so a similar game can't be bad surely? When you think of it, AlttP, WW, OoT and TP all have you doing the same thing: Collect three things, plot twist, more dungeons and collecting. ![]() I think if OoT had never been released, TP would be praised a lot more, as people compare all Zelda games to their predecessors, probably a bit too much.

Re: Why do a lot of people dislike TP so much?
It just didn't have a fresh, new feeling that was present when fans were playing games like MM and tWW when they first came out. Wind Waker had an entirely different engine, and radically different graphics. Majora's Mask was one of the most original, trippy video games ever. But TP used the same engine as WW, no original graphics, and it's one one new element - being a wolf in the twilight realm, was quite frankly tedius and not really that eyebrow-rasing at all.
So TP doesn't make as big of an impact as the other games, and although there were some brilliant bits - it just wasn't new enough to truly captivate fans. Plus I think it has a very low replay value, personally, because the thought of having to wade through the stretched out, boring twilght-realm filled beginning puts me off the bit I want to get to - Lakebed Temple onwards.

Re: Why do a lot of people dislike TP so much?
Quote:
Why wouldn't I give it a ten? Because it some areas it was lacking. The textures were "muddy." The towns had no depth and the game itself lacked the kind of side-quests that were present in MM. I never hoped for as many quests as what MM had... but I was seriously anticipating a good amount and at good quality. The way in which Midna suddenly loses her mean and sarcastic personality and becomes a saint also annoys me. On top of all of this... half the cast of the NPCs were extremely weird. Agatha, the guy at Lake Hylia, the two clowns above Lake Hylia and others. I also found it really annoying that Lake Hylia was like a hole and you needed to be shot out of a canon to get out. I also found it annoying how Zant goes from mysterious and intimidating to exposed, creepy and low. What? Do the Twili have a genetic personality disorder? Then it annoys me how this is supposed to be "THE" Zelda game and all the focus is on this ugly fat imp creature called Midna... when it could have been focused on the more pleasing-to-look-at Zelda? What about the extremely dumbed down difficulty? It was ridiculous... most of the monsters just stood there. Its things like this that TP loses that 10/10 enjoyment factor. Its not just this... when you look back on TP after finishing it you pick up on all these details and realise how much better the game could have been. This game's overworld doesn't even live up to OoT's. Why? Because it is a mass of holes and little areas. Were Nintendo too lazy to make a proper open-ended landscape where you could reach where you wanted to go from any point in the map? I guess not. Even though they delayed the game a whole year just to port it to the Wii. Pure laziness. Regardless I was left extremely sad when I finished TP and even the second or third times I finished it I was sad. And although it left such a strong impression on me I would only rate TP a 9 out of 10 or 90 out of 100. I also don't consider replay value something that should be taken into account when determining the final score.

Re: Why do a lot of people dislike TP so much?
TP was alright, and way better than that crap fest called TWW. Honestly, take out the cel-shaded graphics and you have one of the worst Zeldas ever. Enough about that.
I think that TP is the third best Zelda (after Oot and ALttP.) It had many great parts, but you kind of got the feeling that there was some wasted space. In Oot, the whole game just feels like there is something important in every room, but in TP, they could have taken away half the game, and it wouldn't have mattered. |

Re: Why do a lot of people dislike TP so much?
What I meant was that Wind Waker's incredible art style (Cel-Shaded graphics) kind of covered up the fact that there was not much that was interesting in it's world. Really, how many ?-Eyed reefs did there need to be?

Re: Why do a lot of people dislike TP so much?
It's not that TP is a bad game, it's just that it was hyped up to be the greatest Zelda ever and it dissapointed. It had so much potential in basically every aspect and it wasted every bit of that potential.
