Question TP Fishing Records

I finally was able to get a hold of a Wii and the first game I got was Twilight Princess. I can't get enough if of the Fishing. I was wondering what the largest size you can catch of each fish? This is what I've got so far:

Lure:

Loach 27"
Pike 27"
Catfish 25"
Bass 22"

Bobber:

Reekfish 27"
Loach 22"
Pike 22"
Catfish 21"
Bass 17"
Greengill 16"

On a side note, besides catching the Loach in Summer does it matter what season it is to catch the largest of the other three fish? I keep reading conflicting account about what season is best to catch specific fish. I know for sure I caught my record Pike in Spring and I am fairly certain I caught the Catfish and Bass in Spring too but it might have been Summer.

Re: TP Fishing Records

I only go bobber fishing myself, because I don't like being confined to one pond. But wow, all of your records are higher than mine. Are the fish in the fishing pond larger than the ones outside of it?

PS this is a great topic idea

Re: TP Fishing Records

I found bobber fishing in the Fishing Hole really frustrating. About 90% of the time all i catch are Greengills. I caught most of my record bobber fish in the secret grottos scattered around Hyrule. Once you get a new size record just jump out and dig back in and all the fish will be reset. I got my record Loach in the Lost Woods behind the little waterfall.

Re: TP Fishing Records

I caught a Hylian Pike with lure fishing at the size of 28 inches long. I wasn't too sure if it's supposed to be bigger than the Legendary Hylian Loach, but they are pretty big fish. And I'm pretty sure that I caught a Hylian Bass at a length longer than 22 inches, although I'm not too sure.

Fishing is probably one of the best things in Zelda games.

Re: TP Fishing Records

Wow, a 28" Pike is pretty impressive! Do you remember what season you caught that in? I'm also a little surprised that they would make it larger than the Loach, but maybe you can catch a bigger Loach with the Frog lure. If I ever get past Rollgoal 1-8 I'll test that out.

To clarify things a bit the 3 grottoes I know of with fish are in these locations:

1-In the field North of Faron province in the NE area (for Wii), look for the ring of tall grass. There are a lot of Greengill, Catfish and Loaches in this grotto.

2-In the small field south of Castle Town, on top of the tall rock pillar surrounded by Guays and Deku Babas, dig in the ring of rocks. This grotto has a lot of Greengill and Pike.

3-Near the Lake Hylia Howling Stone by the entrance to the Lantern Cavern. In here there are a ton of Greengill and Loach.

I'm guessing there might be another fishing grotto with Bass in it, but I haven't found one yet. Bass seems to be the hardest fish to find while bobber fishing. I only know of 2 spots to fish Bass and in both places most of the time you catch Greengill instead. You can find Bass in the Fishing Hole of course, but I prefer to catch them in the deep pool behind the Spirit Spring in Kakariko village.

Re: TP Fishing Records

Me? Nah, I'm just meticulous. To tell you the truth I found the grottoes by accident just running around lol. Some people on other forums say they've caught 23" Pike and Loaches bobber fishing. I also discovered that fish get bigger by accident too. One time when I got lost in the Lost Woods I just took a break and started fishing and this one Loach grew from 18-22" inch by inch every time I caught it while I was there.

Re: TP Fishing Records

There's a fourth fishing grotto, it's in the southwest corner of the Faron Province Hyrule Field

Re: TP Fishing Records

Bobber: The bass is the hardest to locate. I found my first one out in the Fishing Hole. Fish of the dock by Hena's hut for a better result. You may catch the ocassional Greengill and in rarely, a Catfish (don't expect it to break records though). Reekfish are elusive. The largest of the few at Zora's Domain is far of to the left (Gamecube version, right).

Lure: -The largest Pike I've caught was 31 in. and put up more fight than the 27 in. loach (strangely enough, both fish were found in the same area).
-A catfish doesn't get bigger than 29 in. They can be found in the deepest area (around the arch, and if you didn;t know, you never inspected the Fishing Hole with Zora Armor). Use popper for best result.
- Bass are easily found by waterfalls and the area around the hut. I'm not sure on the max size.

Any Questions?

Re: TP Fishing Records

OOOh ty Swordsman13, very informative. 31" Pike is amazing. Wish more people would post their records. I found my largest Pike in the Loach spot too but it was Spring. What season did you catch your Pike & Catfish if you can remember?

Can anyone confirm this, but does using the sinking lure punish you when catching fish other than the Loach. I can't seem to catch fish even close to my records with the sinking lure, always 5-7" smaller. Am I just unlucky or are lure fishing size randomized every time you go in and out of the Fishing Hole? Also, is the only Loach size 27" when lure fishing? I've caught it 3 times now and every time it was 27".

I checked out this grotto and it just has some bats, rats, and 3 rupee chests; no fish. Are you sure about the field cus I checked the SE corner just in case you were using GCN version? I'm not 100% sure but the only 2 grottoes in the Faron Province Hyrule Field is the one I mentioned and the one you mentioned but only one has fish.

How do you know there is a specific max size?

Re: TP Fishing Records

Do you think it's possible that a grotto has gone undiscovered? I googled TP grottos and apparently the three fishing grottos you mentioned are the only ones known. Is it worth it to search for more, or did Nintendo give a complete list of grottos?
