Dark Lord Ganondorf: the *hard* way

This may or may not be old news to some people, however, it's recent (ish) news to me, therefore, someone else might not have known.

A few weeks ago I was replaying the final boss battle in Twilight Princess (Wii)--having fun, you know? Well, there's always a little trouble during the horseback battle, I think.

Anyway, when it got down to the one-on-one swordfight between Link and Ganondorf, all was going according to plan--I was basically shredding him using the 'Chance' thing.

But then, I just had to lift my right hand to take care of the little itch on my nose. The sensor picked up the movement, and well, Link swung his sword--nothing spectacular.

But as soon as Link swung his sword, I saw the little red flash, indicating that I got in a hit--apparently, 'Dorfy was just about to shove his sword in Link's face when it happened.

So I thought to myself...there's another, much more challenging way than beating him with the 'Chance' and/or fishing rod gimmick.

I was low on batteries that day, so I decided to call it quits.

Today, I bought some batteries, brought it home and hooked it up.

The last fight with Ganondorf was on--no more fishing rod or waiting for him to run up. I actually went full offensive, attacking at every moment's notice.

Jumping attacks did not work--they were slow and easy to dodge, allowing Dorfy to get in a good hit from time to time.

Spinning attacks, coupled with normal slashing were easily blocked by his shiny piece of weaponry.

This was the moment when I found another reason to love the backslice attack. Rolling around him and attacking at a dangerously close range was doing the job. Even though Dorfy blocks a good few of the attacks, he seems to get frustrated and tries to kick or slash Link, leaving himself wide open.

He takes that hit, then two quick slashes (or a single spin attack), before regaining composure, able to block once again with his shiny thing. Now usually, when you get the 'Chance' you knock him down after a barrage of hits--knocking him down using the above method, requires some patience and quick fingers.

It was a while before I got in the first knock down. I was happy--this actually made the final boss battle seem like the final boss battle.

Washing, rinsing and repeating was all I needed to do before I was finally able to use the Finishing move on him.

[/ramble]

So I ask, anyone of you tried this? You should, if you found the final battle lacking in difficulty.

Some companies sell rechargeable battery packs for wii motes now, if you have the cash, (it saves $$$ in the long run).

Anyhow, I tried to pull off a bunch of fancy moves the first time I fought "Dorfy" (that's funny ), but I found it was easier to just relentlessly attack him until a chance hit was landed. I haven't tried the epic moves again, although it does sound like it poses a slight challenge...

Re: Dark Lord Ganondorf: the *hard* way

I did somthing similar to that, I take fits of "Seizure-style" slashes. It makes it more challenging(sp?) but also makes it more fun, also very fun to watch if you're watching someone else do it.

On a sorta different note, I noticed you said you had trouble with the horseback portion? Try this:
-Get behind Ganondorf on his horse
-Target him
-As soon as Zelda fits an arrow un-target
-She will still fire an arrow, directly in front of you that is. This means that you have to avoid his attacks, aim, and stay in range all at the same time. Very, very difficult!

I laughed at that.

Yes, that has been known about a week or two after the game came out. I too believe that the fight is more fun and epic without the chance feature. I've actually gotten so good at the fight, I can pretty much hit Ganondorf whenever I want and I can make him do certain moves. The only time I use the Chance feature is at the very end of the fight, and I usually drink a bottle of Great Fairy's Tears just to make it seem more epic (and to make Link overpowering Ganondorf seem more reasonable).

Re: Dark Lord Ganondorf: the *hard* way

You couldn't hit Ganondorf without the Chance? my first time in that battle he did the thing only once, and he was about to die.

there is a quit cheap way of defeating him: Get as close as you can, about as the distance he starts kicking you, but if you evade the first kick, you can get to his back by walking very close to him, Ganondorf won't turn around, he will just keep kicking the place where you first were, when you are in his back, just attack, most of the times he wont be able to block.

Yeah, I think I've heard of this before but havent read up on it in depth. I think I'll give it a try sometime.

Did you know there's also some kinda glitch where you can get outside the fighting section?

I personally loved this Ganondorf battle. It was harder than the others, with a very cool sword right through your stomach ending.

Wait... THERE WAS AN 'EASY' WAY!?

I've been fighting him 'the hard way' the whole time!

I never knew about it until my second go at the boss, I must have beaten him too quickly to need it. *brags*

Re: Dark Lord Ganondorf: the *hard* way

I always just used backlice and hoped for the best. But the 2nd or 3rd time around, I actually started dodging his attacks with the sidesteps and backflips. I was good practice, and once you get good at it take your time and it gets epic. But if you really want to match Ganondorf, pack up your rupees and fight him with the magic armour on. He's got awesome armour, and even if the magic armour won't "tink" 24/7, its still pretty cool.

It's the only thing I've tried, I hate taking the lazy wait for him to do something way out of it. Have fun with it and fight like you've actually got that grudge that Link does.

I didn't want the easy way out anyway, fighting him "the hard way" was easy enough.
Yeah, I stayed in close circles around him.

Re: Dark Lord Ganondorf: the *hard* way

Yeah, I always fought him the "hard" way too. He only did the chance thing maybe two times my first time. I often wait for him to attack, and quickly slash just when he's about to. There's a small opening right there.

Anyways, I love the swordfight with Ganondorf. It's just what I wanted from the final boss fight. TWW's final fight was cool too, but it relied too much on the parry attack. TP's is better in the sense that you can just go slashing, and think of strategies to get him off balance to get a good hit, and so on. It's also very cool when he taunts you. I love him. ^^

I feel like a complete n00b but what do you guys mean by the 'chance thing' and fighting Ganondorf the 'hard' and the 'easy' way?

The chance thing is when Ganondorf charges at you, and you have to press A quickly for Link to react. This leads you to lock swords with him, and you have to keep punching A, the faster you do, the more Link pushes back. After a while you overpower him (whichs is so weird, Link is puny compared to Ganondorf), leaving him wide open for you to slash. I'm guessing the easy way would be to just wait for him to use this repeatedly.

I'm just not patient enough to wait for him, I go and slash away. What makes this the hard way is, that to hit him, you'll have to be close, and so he'll hit you too. He's also pretty good at blocking. After some time of this, when I think he may have enough damage to die soon, I'll try to get him to charge at me. He never does, he just keeps taunting me. Gotta love him.

lol *sings* Meralia loves Ganondorf

Wow, they lock swords? That never happened to me, I guess I'm way too impatient. Poor Dorfy was long dead before he got the chance I think, he never knew what hit him (brag, brag... I know). This means I have a reason to do the whole thing over again.

I think a lot of people just slash away, TP gave you the option to be 'lazy' (or smart, your pick) in battle and wait for the enemy to drop guard, or to be active and practice and master the different moves. I really love the back slash (is that what it's called?) for example, it hardly ever fails when timed right.

I was so disappointed that Ganondorf wasn't nearly as hard to beat as the 3 (or 4? can't remember) darknuts at the end of the cave of ordeals. I just couldn't believe that that was it. But after reading this I believe that maybe I didn't fight him the way you are supposed to or something, maybe the chance thing gives a more satisfying result
