Hey is that a...nah it can't be...
Has anyone ever noticed what the second boss in Twilight Princes looks like other than me?
You know the Goron that was taken over by evil and had to be locked up (I forgot his name). To me he kind of looks like a Balrog, you know from Lord of the Rings? When I saw Link fighting him in the first trailer before the game came out I saw that small piece of film and thought "whoa look at that it's a Balrog" even when I fought him I was thinking in the back of my mind "hey look at that it's a Balrog". I mean he's different from the Balrog in a whole lot of ways like he's not as big and doesn’t posses a huge sword and whip but still once I saw him I thought he looked like a Balrog. I am a pretty big Tolkein fan (I mean I have all the Lord of the Rings directors cuts on DVD). And I'm not mad that Nintendo copied the idea a little bit (they probably didn't know something like that existed before). Anyway...Do think that the second Boss looks a little like a Balrog?

Re: Hey is that a...nah it can't be...
When I first saw the TP trailer I thought the whole game looked a bit LotR-esque what with the 'balrog' as you said, and the trailer included Link on horseback firing an arrow so very Legolas if you as me.
Fyrus was on fire if I remember rightly and the chains could be his version of the balrogs whip so very similar So yea I agree ![]()

I've never watched Lord of the Rings, so I really wouldn't know, but it's a possibility Nintendo got the idea for his image from a Balrog, whatever that is. It could also be an incredible coincidence, but what are the chances of that?

However, that might've been inspired by the Balrog, but they could've just as easily come up with that idea on their own. |

I kind of thought most people would be offended by this thread (if I did offend you I didn't mean to it's just they look a-like in different ways).

Re: Hey is that a...nah it can't be...
Also, looking now, you could say that Armogohma looks like Shelob.
Armoghoma = http://www.zeldauniverse.net/images/.../armogohma.jpg Shelob = http://www.gollumlives.com/shelob2.jpg (there's probably better pictures out there) It's probably because they're both big, black spiders really. But also, Argorok could be mistaken for a Nazgűl Bird (or just Nazgűl whichever you prefer). Again this could be just because they're dark, winged dragon-like creatures. Argorok = http://www.zeldauniverse.net/images/...rt/argorok.jpg Nazgűl/Nazgűl Bird = http://www.tuckborough.net/images/fellbeast.jpg

I don't really think Armogohma looks like Shelob though there are some major differences such as the fact that Shelob acts more like an animal than an insect plus she doesn’t shoot a beam from the eye on her back (in fact she don’t even have an eye on her back). Armogohma doesn’t really seem like it was taken from Tolkein but still you are right that they show some similarities. As for Argorok looking like the fell beast the Nazgűl's ride to me there's not much similarity as well. Argorok is a dragon the fell beasts aren’t dragons they don’t breath fire at all so they can’t be dragons, Tolkein never really explained what exactly they were but they’re usually called a prehistoric animal like a dinosaur but I can see how people can get that mixed up (I have before) it’s a simple mistake. I’m not saying you’re wrong because there are tiny similarities between those 2 monsters with the 2 twilight princes monsters it’s just there’s not much similarities to call it…

Re: Hey is that a...nah it can't be...
Wots Lord of the Rings? Lol J/K. Now thatya think about it... No. Balrogs are big, Have wings, Have horns, Have whips, have a sword, are old, and aren't gorons =P
If you say that fyrus looks like a balrog, you could say in the same way, A burning gorilla looks like a balrog. |
