Colin is Young Link.

Just like Ilia represents Malon and Saria, Colin represents Young Link. He wears the same clothes as Link, and has blonde hair and blue eyes.

Plus the whole take up the sword like Link and his father Rusl in the end credits. Some say he's a Link copycat or something similar, but he's actually the TP representation of Young Link.

And the Ordon kids do treat him as a bit of an outsider, like Link was with Saria ( Ilia )
Young Link never struck me as that timid though, but I think he was as quiet as Colin was.

The thought had crossed my mind before, with Rusl being somewhat blonde and into swordsmanship as well as connected with the forest. He's the one who notices how strange the Faron Woods is initially.
But he's not Hylian, nor a leftie like most of Link's known relatives. ( Link's Uncle in ALTTP, the Hero's Spirit is most notably a leftie as well. ) So I wonder if it's merely a reference.
I'd put my money on TP Link being the descendant more than Rusl.

I don't think Colin is meant to be a decendant. Just a reference to Young Link. To answer the question of what Young Link may look like in TP. As for Colin's timidness, he grows out of it to show a growth of character.

First he's timid, and dislikes swordsmanship (though he does like horse riding), then he becomes brave and eventually takes up the sword.

I do see some likeness in your comparisons, but I personally view each character as their own character and not really a reference to a past one. Such references do exist, yes, but they seem more limited to guys like the Hylian Doctor (I can't remember how to spell his name, so I won't try to write it).

No. Young Link is actually a cool character (especially in Majora's Mask). Colin is just the most annoying and cliche characters ever.

I always thought of Colin as a cliche "please help me" character that just got in the way of the story.

He did grow out of it eventually. Not all cliched "Please help me!" characters would be wiling to push someone out of the rampaging path of an armored boar.

Unfortunately, the Ordon children don't have a very big fanbase as far as I can tell. Talo looks like a bulldog, Malo looks like he should still be in diapers, and not running 1 to 2 shops. Colin is cliche, but I believe what I believe.

I used to think Ilia stealing my horse was annoying, until I realized she probably just did it because she didn't want Link to leave. Still, that says something about her level of maturity.

She did it because she was furious with Link for doing exactly what she told him not to do (ie, jump over fences too much that it'll injure Epona). She loves Epona dearly. Wouldn't you be furious if your friend kept pushing your pet to its limits even though you repeatly told them not to?

Quite frankly, out of all the Ordon children we should be concerned about, Illia and Colin are the least one. Everyone else are weird and immature.

Although, I sort of liked Colin a bit. You gotta hand it to him. It takes guts to push someone out of the way of a rampaging boar with no thought of your own saftey. He could have died. (I know, the TP script forbade him to do so, but seriously, it showed me that Colin was just a timid boy, but push the right buttons and he'll get serious. He's not the cliche 'Oh please help me!' character IMHO)

I wonder if they were were trying for the same thing with Colin that Komali of WW had in terms of character development. Despite his timidity, I liked Colin a great deal. Like the previous poster said...he risked his life to save Beth, and got over his fear to do what he had to. Unlike Talo and Malo and Beth...he did seem to really change. When he took up a sword in the end and was emulating Link..I even got the impression that he would be growing into "Link's role" in the village, as the future leader and defender. That only reinforced my conclusion that Link was truly done with Ordon..he wasn't needed there anymore. The men of the village offered to look after the goats when Link was gone, and Colin can be the future defender.

I figured that out pretty quickly about Ilia, honestly, that's typical teenage girl behavior. Usually what seems to be the matter actually is only the surface, and quite often the excuse.
Link was leaving, was going to have new experiences and she was likely afraid he wouldn't come back, so by preventing him from leaving she'd keep him. That's immaturity and control.
She did seem to gain a new maturity in the end when she regained her memory...but I don't think she realized the magnitude of what Link had been through..and that he'd never be the same. Her memory of him was him still in Ordon clothes...the boy she grew up with.

Actually, Colin is quite a bit like Komali. And yeah, Colin may well take Link's role in the village, because you can't go from saving the world to just being the same boy again. Some may want to, but Link will surely travel somewhere else for a mission of greater scale.

Much like all Link's go on another adventure after their initial game.

Exactly. The growth factor...Midna just enhanced it..by hob-nobbing with the likes of world changers like her and Zelda...and saving entire kingdoms..I can never see Link herding goats again, and retreating to that existance. I think he will always love it..but can't return to the way it was.

Colin is not called to be a Hero like Link is...so he's perfect.

No, you're thinking of Talo. Malo is the smart baby looking one that runs a shop. Talo, the brown haired boy, can boss around Colin, but not really anyone else. Malo is too smart, and everyone else is older than him.
