Purpose of the Old Man Taking Donations?

Does anyone know what the purpose of the man in Hyrule Castle Town that you can give money to is? I've given him over 500 rupees (probably) and he still hasn't given me anything. Anyone?

You get the magic armour by giving the kid at the store in Kakariko village a lot of donations I think. Because he rebuilds the bridge and then opens a store.

You donate to him to open the store in Castle Town and buy it there.

I think the guy outside the store is just for the heart piece, but if you donate to him, the price for opening Malo Mart decreases significantly.

Edit: Wait, nevermind, you mean the guy in Castle Town, not the Gorons. *headdesk* All the talk about Malo Mart made me completely overlook your first post. That guy has nothing to do with Malo Mart. He'll give you a heart piece after 1000 rupees and never bother you again.

the same thing hapened to me, thats why i have been trying to prove that its the magic armour. srry people
