I gotta say I am impressed as hell. After all these years and it's still getting 10's? Does IGN review VC games by today's standards or when it was released?

Meh. OoT can get whatever score it wants. I'm still waiting for MM for the VC. Then I'll care.

And why are they rating VC games? That seems silly.

I think it's according to the time which it was released... after all, It got a 10. I suppose it got lower score back in the day because they didn't give 10s that often

Then how come ALTTP and Mario 64 got a lower score for the VC?

I agree that a game as great and revolutionary as Ocarina of Time deserves a 10.

OoT got a 10 from IGN when it first came out as well.

I don't know anyone else who judges OOT at such constantly high ratings, especially after all the re-releases, and now on VC. It's pretty clear they worship this game.

It was good for it's time, but wow... these people need to move on.

The re-releases on Gamecube didn't get 10s and I don't think the VC version deserves a 10 because it lacks the rumble feature leaving the Stone of Agony useless, but the original version, in my opinion, is the closest game to perfection.

Now, you say move on with OoT, but can't I just tell you to move on with MM?

Not just IGN, almost everybody gave OOT a perfect score. Gamespot gave it a 10, EGM, Famitsu, Etc. It is the most high rated game in history. FACT

Re-releases really shouldn't affect scores. They could re-release it a thousand times and it still doesn't change the fact that it's a great game.

For its time, Ocarina of Time was far better than Twilight Princess. TP was actually quite outdated even before it was released. The graphics were not too amazing (granted, it's a last-gen game), the overworld was quite small compaired to games that came out before (Elder Scrolls, GTA, SotC), lack of voice acting, all midis, underwelming plot that is simply re-using the ALttP/OoT/WW format, etc..

OoT, for its time, was ahead of everything. It wasn't the first 3D adventure game, but it was the first to get it right. Before OoT, 3D adventures were plagued with terrible camera angles and set path worlds. OoT revolutionized camera control with the Z-targetting, had a massive overworld (for its time), was a very long quest (for its time), and the graphics were state-of-the-art. But most of all, the game silenced all fears of Zelda making into 3D.

Ocarina does get the attention from the critics, but I think that OoT should. It's the perfect game to refer to if you are looking for a nearly perfect adventure game. Now, if the game came out right now, would it get a 10? I don't think so. The cutscenes would be underwelming, the overworld would be unreasonably tiny, and the graphics would be completely outdated. That's obvious, though. What makes OoT last as long as it did is how well it has aged in the GAMEPLAY department. It's still a solid game that is always fun to pick up whether it is to venture through dungeons or just sell masks to townspeople. Plus, OoT is just one of those games that leaves you with a happy feeling.

I may seem like one of those "OoT elitest", but I don't think I am. I'm open to new ideas; in fact, I want Zelda to go in a new direction, but I still highly beleive that OoT is the definate Zelda game. That doesn't mean I detest all the other Zeldas! I love Majora's Mask, Link's Awakening, A Link to the Past, and Oracle of Seasons. I enjoyed Wind Waker, The Minish Cap, and Twilight Princess. It's not like my love for OoT has blinded me from keeping an open mid from liking other Zelda games, I just like OoT better.

Unfortunately, most people think:

Newer = better.
