NEW INTERVIEW: Voice acting & Sex explained!

In the latest issue of EGM, Shane Bettenhausen sat down with Bill Trinen to discuss all things Twilight Princess, including Bill's uncanny resemblance to an in-game character, Oocoo's breasts, voice acting and Link and Zelda having premarital sex.

The discussion begins with remarks about the Teen rating, which Bill clarifies that Nintendo never wanted to stray from what the core of Zelda has been, it was more a byproduct of the visuals. Mr. Trinen also comments on how he prefers, as does the development team, to spend more time on making Zelda a good game rather than focusing on ground-breaking visuals like Zelda would have on XBOX360 or PS3.

As for voice acting, Bill insists that Link will never really have full voice acting because Nintendo does not want to impose too much personality on Link. However, if they were to do voice acting, it would have to be the best possible, nothing cheesy. This is problematic because the development team is always working on story elements up till the final hour.

The Localization team at NOA also couldn't wait to see the final version of Midna, as they got early builds of the game and used debug menus to skip to her slot to see when she would be done. They were very impressed when they finally saw her. As for her character, they team wanted to keep her very mysterious through the first three dungeons, and that she only gives out info in small bits because perhaps she is using Link.

One of the things the team wanted to highlight was how the player needed to feel like Midna's pawn for the first part of the game, until she begins to warm up to Link and eventually they become close friends.

As for the mailman, even Bill was a bit perplexed by his appearance and characterization. He has to have short shorts because of all the running he does, and long distance runners wear shorter shorts. Shane then accuses Bill and Nintendo of putting sexual tension into the game between Telma and Link, but Bill swears its just Telma being flirtatious. The reason for much of these new, mature themes is because Eiji Aonuma said that with more realistic graphics means you have to deal with more realistic themes. But, Bill points out Telma is actually interested in Renado, and she is just teasing Link. However, in the Japanese version, these nuances are not present.

Tingle does not appear in Twilight Princess, but Bill sort of gives a hint he may be back.

Bill defends the first few hours of Twilight Princess, which many have complained feels too much like an extended tutorial, saying it is more than just that - it builds up the story of the game. Additionally, he believes Twilight Princess' build up is superior to Ocarina of Time's. Also, on the Wii version, the tutorial is very crucial since this is one of the first Wii games and this is the first time many players are using the Wii controls. Speaking of the Wii version, Bill believes it is the definitive version.

Shane asks about Fyer and Oocoo, asking which is creepier. Bill actually finds Falbi the creepiest of the bunch. Next, Bill denies Oocoo has breasts, stating that it is plumage.

Now for the best part; Shane asks after watching the ending of Twilight Princess, are Link and Zelda ever going to hook up. Bill says just because it doesn't happen on screen doesn't mean it has never happened! Shane states Bill confirms Link and Zelda are having premarital sex, and Bill finishes by saying players need to fill in the holes themselves.

I'll admit, when I first read the part about Link and Zelda having sex, I thought this article was fake, but it's not. Maybe the next Zelda will have a hotcoffee-type mini-game where Link gets dirty with Zelda, no? No.

I do have to say, I'm very glad that Nintendo is starting to acknowledge the existance of voice-acting and that if they do get any, it will won't be cheesy.

I wonder if Hyrule has any form of condom...

Omfg, I LOL'ed a good few times reading that. I think we have to remember that Bill Trinen is not Aonuma or Miyamoto. He is just a translator and 'localization' manager.

I agree, the next 3D Zelda NEEDS Voice acting. I grew somewhat tired of all the blasted text in Twilight Princess.

OMG(^^^) i laughed when it said "players need to fill in the holes themselves." ... ha well Zelda is amazing without voice acting and shouldnt ever have it. Its a trademark

Once voice acting is in a Zelda game, you would never be able to go back.

Hm.......I'm sorry but I have a very hard time swallowing the Zelda/Link sex thing. To me Zelda seemed almost cold in this title, hardly even acknowledging Link. Is this Bill person really confirming anything or just stating his own wishful thinking? The only thing that I find at all persuasive in this is the fact that the rest of the artcile is right on target. It's not quite enough, however. By "filling in the holes," did he mean there are clues in the game's ending that imply this relationship? I don't know about you guys, but I'm gonna be watching REEEEALLY closely the next time I see the ending!

Voice acting isn't that bad. Look at Mario and Peach!

This is...stupid. Quite frankly, I haven't trusted half of the things that have come out of The Hylia, and surprise! It was either a crappy joke or one of their 'handy worerks' messing up. Again.

I like Nintendos stance on voice acting. I don't think they'll go down that road on a full time basis, but they may experiment one day.

The only part of the ending that gave me slight speculation on LinkXZelda is when Link was riding away while childhood sweetheart Ilia stood there wondering where he was going. But Link could have been going to Hyrule town to hook up with a random female NPC character or going to Telma's bar to get drunk as far as we know. But maybe in between the time after Midna broke the Twilight Mirror and everyone returning to Ordon village Link got to know Zelda very well and that last scene of him riding away from Ordon village back to Hyrule Castle was
