Were you happy with the more light hearted game we got?

Judging from the original trailers, I think it was pretty obvious the game was going to be alot darker than it is now. The graphics were more realistic and darker (As opposed to the brighter colored overworld we have now, the colors were a combination of green and brown), the ghosts in the well were ALOT freakier, there were some areas not seen in the game that seemed to have a darker mood than most areas in the game, etc. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the game's original intentions were for it to be darker, but Iwata didn't like it and changed it, this was around the time where this game was supposed to be Wind Waker's prequel and was "supposed" to end with Hyrule flooding. Personally I'm a little dissapointed, I expected a MUCH darker game, no senseless blood or gore or anything like that, just for the story to be a bit more dark and moodier. I hope the next Zelda does this, but I really doubt this with Nintendo's new focus on making the gameplay perfect rather than making the storyline and such great too.

Yeah TP is pretty dark. Ooccoo and some other characters were light hearted. But bloody Rusl was not light hearted.

I thought the story was plenty dark enough. Any darker and it wouldn't feel like a Zelda game. Zelda's not supposed to be a tragedy, it's supposed to be an epic.

I actually haven't played it, but my friends on other boards said the story wasn't as dark as they had hoped, and expected the ending to end like Wind Waker began, if you know what I mean.

He was bloody. Blood was in a Zelda game. Lol I'm not british I didn't mean it like that.

ThunderSelf play it before you say something like that.

So blood=automatic mature storyline?

I know I didn't play it, but I'd like a little more reasoning on how the storyline is much more mature than the past games besides some blood on a guy.

and lol at thunderself

Re: Were you happy with the more light hearted game we got?

First off, I love dark games, movies, novels, everything. In my opinion, it ain't a good story unless one of the main characters are killed off. Now of course I wasn't expecting anything near that drastic from a Zelda game, but I was pleasantly suprised when I saw how dark Twilight Princess looked. Anything would have been better than the overly happy and colorful Windwaker. Good game, but too lighthearted to play it more than once. So really I could go either way. I mean, I LOVE this new, darker Zelda, but at the same time I wouldn't have minded it being a bit more dark.

I guess for the younger fans' sake, it turned out quite nicely

You have to play it, it doesn't have like a resident evil type story. But for a Zelda game is is a pretty dark game. Killing's and such. You will see what I mean. BTW ThunderSelf is better.

Also TwilightPrince1,

Spoiler (Highlight to read):
When Ordon is attacked, and after you turn back into a human, go to Rusl's house. He will be on the couch bloody with bandages on him. I'm serious.

Really...I'll have to check that out. So, after you
Spoiler (Highlight to read):
turn back into a human with the green tunic, he'll be in his house bandaged up?

Yes.

Spoiler (Highlight to read):
Right before you leave for Hyrule. The only down side is if you want to see it you will have to beat the forest temple again.

I'm on another playthrough, and I just entered the Goron Mines. I'll go back to Ordon and check it out.
Spoiler (Highlight to read):
And you get transformed back to a human before the Temple, so why would you have to beat it first?

Re: Were you happy with the more light hearted game we got?

I thought the way they did it was very nice. though i would like to see what the game would be like if it were a little darker, though i think an 'M' rating should be avoided at all costs.

if you ask me though, i think the same story line, design, etc... would go a LONG way to feel more grownup/serious/darker if they took the time to run the game music and sound through a full fledged orchestral make over, and some well done voice acting.

Yeah your right. So it wouldn't be too bad then. I don't know if it would be the same where you are now. But since you don't have to beat the first temple, just start a new file.

Definately agree with you there about the music. The MIDI just doesn't fit with some parts of the game (although I can't think of specifics at the moment... you know what I mean). I don't know if Zelda is ready for more voice acting, but I guess I couldn't hurt as long as they don't give Link a voice.
