We DO Know How Large the Overworld is
Ok, I think most people around the forums have seen the newest gameplay trailer:
http://media.wii.ign.com/media/748/748589/vids_1.html (It's the first one) And most people have been reading the analysis including my and others' Multi-layered theory about the overworld: New Screenshots and Trailer Reveal a Ton of Info! Ok, so how do we know the overworld is so large? MadCucco realized that the arrow on that "Twilight trail" (when Wolf Link is on the dragon) moves so slow that the tunnel must be VERY LONG. Combining these ideas, I have come to this conclusion: The "Twilight trail" is a cave underneath the entire Hyrule overworld. It we know how big Hyrule is because it is roughly the lenght of that tunnel. The map portion that we see (go to the thread above) is not the entire overworld. Now, I wonder what the purpose of the trail is? Please give me your feedback/comments or feel free to add to the theories! |

Re: We DO Know How Large the Overworld is
Why does the "Twilight trail" have to be under the overworld? Why can't it be an extension of it?

Re: We DO Know How Large the Overworld is
Well, Lionharted, I hadn't thought of that...but it does look to be a cave and if it was an extension of the overworld that would make it really huge, which I guess is possible but I was looking at it through the Multilayered theory.
And I don't think the dragon is slow. It could be, but if you look at the blur effect and how fast large objects move past, I think it's actually kind of fast. EDIT: clarity |

Re: We DO Know How Large the Overworld is
True. Plus the Twilight Realm may not actually be a negative zone. It may be totally different, unparallel to Hyrule whatsoever.

Re: We DO Know How Large the Overworld is
Except there's the fact that it's been confirmed to be parallel to Hyrule. You know, at E3 2005.

Re: We DO Know How Large the Overworld is
No, I'm not sure that it's a different map...one of the development team said that Hyrule shared the same topography (map, geography) as the Twilight Realm, so I would think that the tunnel would be a "part" of hyrule.

Re: We DO Know How Large the Overworld is
If it was underneath then wouldn't it be crushed by the force of all that land above it. I agree with Hungry Man that it is unparallel to Hyrule.

Re: We DO Know How Large the Overworld is
I think that tunnel/cave is just that.....a cave/dungeon. I don't think it's an underground roadway or anything like that. Nice theory though Klew.....I rather enjoy reading your theories.

What I'm trying to say is: you can't compare mini-maps like that in Zelda. They are all in different scale.

Re: We DO Know How Large the Overworld is
^But maybe that's only a peice of the overworld, when you see Wolf Link?
What I mean is, since you move rather fast on the dragon and your arrow is slow, that means the underground road is very long. And unless hyrule is just extremely long and that road is an "extension" then it has to be underneath the overworld. So far, other than this road, I think we've only seen small parts of Hyrule at any one given time. Just like the portion with Wolf Link that you're talking about. |

Re: We DO Know How Large the Overworld is
With the information provided here before us, there is no possible way to prove how large or small, or which area's connect to others, etc etc. We don't even know the placement of the obliging landmarks like deathmountain, the lost woods, and hyrule castle.
Your analysis has only lead you in circles, I'm sorry, but it is impossible to come down to any sort of concrete conclusions at this juncture in time. the "twilgiht" trail may very well be the path to death mountain, it could also be the canyon that connects the gerudo fortress to lake hylia, we really just don't know.

I don't think that tunnel is as long as Hyrule, because that would mean that Hyrule is very very small place. You know how it is, you enter a cave that looks really small in the overworld but once inside it's huge and complex. It's unrealistic just like in movies, but it works.
