Voice Acting is in?
Hey, if you guys watch that TP video on Google Video somebody else posted, I noticed that Shadow Midna speaks, although speaks in what assumably is Hyrulian Dialect. Now, here's a bit of hypothesising. Imagine if you could make them speak english if you complete the game? Nintendo might of added this feature into the Wii version seen as it has more space. Just a thought.
EDIT: Err...how did this get here? I've never been to this section...Please move this to the TP spoilers forum...

Re: Voice Acting is in?
I hope there is no voice acting. It just won't sound right.
Meh, I guess I could live with it if for some reason Nintendo did have voice acting.

Re: Voice Acting is in?
TP will not have voice acting, it will simply have the traditional 'mumbling' when a character first starts speaking, Nintendo has said this many, many times. I also rather suspect that Midna was 'speaking' Japanese.

Re: Voice Acting is in?
I like the mumbling. It's not stupid and trite like voice acting threatens to be, but you still get to hear what the characters sound like and their exclamations/laughter/etc.
Mow I'd be interested to know if they'll do the mumbling thing with Link. We can SEE his mouth move when he talks, but can we hear him? |

Re: Voice Acting is in?
If they get GOOD voice actors then I'm all for it.
And it's easily possible to have good voice acting, most bad voice acting you see are the game companies just scraping the bottom of the barrel. I also think not every character needs to talk, probably Zelda, Ganondorf, the King (I really want to see a king not cel-shaded) and maybe some other major characters, and not even all the time, just "cut scenes". |

Actually, they've stated the opposite. Aonuma said in an interview after last years E3, that in past Zelda games they used sounds and mumblings, but in TP they were looking into different scenarios. I'm expecting a lot more voice acting than usual, but probably not from Link. Most likely during cut-scenes, or maybe during those "narrative" parts. IGN: A two-part question. Does the game run in 16x9 widescreen and why is there no voice acting? Eiji Aonuma: (second half of answer) As to voice acting, I think what you see on the show floor is pretty much what we've been doing with the series in the past, which is before the text appears you get a very simple voice that pops up and you hear that. In the final version, we do intend to do something slightly different than that. We haven't finalized exactly how we're going to handle the voice in the game, but we are looking into different things.

Re: Voice Acting is in?
If you pay attention when watching the videos from the E3 demo, you'll notice that Midna starts talking when the text appears and keeps talking until it's done. I'd expect a lot more of that in the final product.
It's nothing radical, but it would be pretty cool, as opposed to simply the "Wha?" or "Hey!" used by most characters in past games.

Re: Voice Acting is in?
Well, I don't see anything wrong with that. In fact, as long as they don't apply any significant changes with Link, I probably won't complain a bit... as long as it's done well and parallels the character.
Everyone, except for Link, talks in one way or another. That's the hinge right there, everyone else is almost at the point where voice acting doesn't add a significant amount to the experience. They could have Tetra talk with a talented voice actress, and it would be fine. But with Link, going from no text to a full-blown acting role is a bit of a stretch.

Re: Voice Acting is in?
I'm A little sorry to interrupt conversation, but could someone give a link to the video? I can't seem to find it.
Then I'll get to commenting on this...hee hee. EDIT: Ah, Nevermind, I think I've found it. That Twelve-Minute demo, right? EDIT EDIT: Man, I have to stop doing this... Anyways, to me, it just sounds like the usual Zelda jibberish-talking. Although as much as I would like to see some full-fledged voice acting, it would sort of ruin the Zelda way. It's more interesting that way, it almost keeps you guessing, and that's all that's needed. Last edited by linkkidd; 05-26-2006 at 09:22 PM. |

Re: Voice Acting is in?
I wouldnt mind the voice acting as long as its not from Link. I think the best part is giving your own personal voice or whatever you think he would sound like. But it would be nice to hear some voices during those 10 min cutscenes that zelda is known for at times.

Re: Voice Acting is in?
Actually, I wouldn't mind having Link do voice acting.
*chirp* Ahem. I don't think it would ruin my experience with TP or all of the Zelda series to hear the voice of Link. I mean, some people consider Link to be this huge, "epic" character, but does giving him a voice really make him less so? I don't think so... Besides, adding a voice adds more emotion, and from what I can see this is somewhat of an emotionally charged game.

Re: Voice Acting is in?
I think the voice acting should be in some new language nobody actually can understand, something like Hylian language...
So nobody would translate it and people still have to read the english beneath!! I would like to hear Link saying some names like: Ganondorf or Zeruda-hime. XD would be cool!

I don't think they've EVER stated (and definitely not many many times), that there's no voice acting. The interview I brought up is the only interview where they even discuss voice acting. If I'm wrong, of course, please show me the interview where you've seen this.

Re: Voice Acting is in?
Huh, oddly enough the only link I can find to an interview about that is the one you posted, although all the media outlets take it to mean that there will not be voice acting.
Anyways, I certainly hope that there isn't voice acting, unless they actualy get good voice actors. I've yet to play a game that actualy does voice acting well, although Tales of Symphonia came close.

Re: Voice Acting is in?
I actually like Crazyfreak's Idea. Having the characters actually speaking, but in a language noone understands. Here is why...
I am a big fan of Naruto (a Japanese anime / manga series about a bunch of kids training to be ninjas [watch it sometime ]) and have always watched it in Japanese with English subtitles. I grew to love the characters and thier voices even if I couldn't understand most of what was said.Recently Cartoon Network started airing an English version of the Naruto anime. This had a very negative reaction from the fans because the voice-acting was so terrible. Everyone who had loved the Japanese anime hated the English one because the character's voices sounded nothing like thier Japanese counterparts. I wrote to my Japanese penpal asking what she thought of the Japanese voice acting. She told me that she didn't think the Japanese voice acting in Naruto was very good. Now I realize that it's not whats being said that makes good voice acting, but the tone and emotions expressed that make voice acting sound good. Anyways, my thoughts on the subject...
