Too much horse riding?
like in WW, when you ride your boat WAY too much, you might have too ride your horse too much too. It would be fun at first but it will get annoying. with such a huge Hrule field, there must be a ton of horseback involved, unlike OoT when you chose to ride your horse or not, but chances are i am wrong on this one...

Re: Too much horse riding?
Wolf Link was said to be faster than normal Link but slower than the horse.
I worried about the horse riding becoming too overwhelming. But sprawling hills is always more entertaining to me than open sea. There's so much more you can do with a ground landscape. I doubt it will be boring. I thought TWW's sailing was ridiculous around the third or fourth time I played through the game.

Re: Too much horse riding?
If there is too much horse riding then they would put obsticles in there like shooting the Pos with the arrow while you are riding or the they would give you a devise that would make your horse go faster because carrots aren't that effective.

Re: Too much horse riding?
I think it'll be much more fun riding the horse than sailing. I just loved riding around Hyrule Field on Epona in OoT. I never really LOVED sailing in TWW. But, as others have said, there will most likely be enemies (hopefully ones that DON'T require you stop and put your sail away BEFORE getting out the item needed to kill them), obsticales, and portals/warp songs to make it easier for those who think it's boring.

Re: Too much horse riding?
I really don't think one can really compare TP's vehicle travel to tWW's.
tWW: sailing was a fun idea, out on the open sea and such, but there were many problems in tWW's travel system. The boat itself was extremely limited, and combat itself was limited to a few select squares instead of a random battle system. Don't forget how much of a pain it was to actually get moving in a different direction, the wind my friends the wind. While focusing on this aspect of sailing was interesting, the constant effort to take out the baton and play a song to dictact your direction of travel became extremely tedious. Oh and, you'de think that link would be able to swim if he lived on an island, contricting the player so much is never a good thing. TP: So far all I see is good things, you are actually in full control of epona, as opposed to the aforementioned sea travel, the analog stick allows you to turn epona whenever you wish. Combat, while still being able to use arrows (similar to OoT, and tWW, the use of projectiles on ones vehicle) Link has also been granted the use of his sword on epona, which makes much sense, and also seems to provide quite and intense up close experience as seen in various E3 demo videos. Overall, I think that the level of freedom on epona will never make horse riding boring, no matter how large the overworld is, traveling on horse, doing whatever you wish will always be an inspiring and invigorating experience. Just take a look at shadow of the colossus, the overworld itself happened to be one of the games' main focus, very similar to the amount of work put into TP's overworld. Just remember that less action doesn't necesarrily mean you will encounter boredom, it just means that perhaps youlle get the chance to sit, relax, and fully immerse yourself in hyrule just as you are meant to, remeber that Miyamoto created zelda as a world that you can fit inside of your desk drawer and you can enter it whenever you wish and still have to same wonderful experience.

Re: Too much horse riding?
Well, just to echo some people, the ocean was a bland and monotonus setting. The overworld will probably be more varied(not in the lame way Majora's Mask was implemented though, I'm hoping) and interesting to take a gander at. I wouldn't know about Wind Waker, but apparently the ship control mechanics were horrible but I thought Epona was relatively easy to control-- so unless they make a drastic change from that control scheme, it's smooth sailing(unlike the boat) for our pony pal.

Re: Too much horse riding?
Perhaps there will be villages out on Hyrule fied that have various mini games or other things like said to relieve from the stress of riding a horse. But if It gets too big I hope they include saddle-soreness to add realsim.

Re: Too much horse riding?
I'd like to say something. Eiji and the rest of the Zelda crew made it quite clear that they learned from their past mistakes with tWW. Personally, I have no beef with tWW; great game with a great story. However, even I have to admit that the Great Sea did feel a bit... sparse. The Zelda team also recognized this, and I believe it was either Miyamoto or Eiji who specifically mentioned this failing. They've learned from their mistakes. There's nothing to worry about with the overworld, because they'll get it right this time.
After all, what moron would recognize a mistake, reflect deeply on it, and then repeat it the first chance he/she came across? So the conclusion is that, even if you do end up riding around a lot, there will be plenty to keep your attention. Heck, I'd love to just ride across Hyrule Field, watching the trees and rivers rush by... From what I've seen, a lot of the scenery is going to be breathtaking. In fact, I'd have to say that's what I'm most looking forward to right now. Quote:

Re: Too much horse riding?
Either way I don't think there will be any more hoarse riding than on foot. WW was a boring fase of traveling on its huge sea surface with little intresting sites around you. So therefor I believe it will not be as boring as a travel as some of you may think. We may even have the option to walk on foot like you do in OoT, but that would take a long ass time by the looks of the game's atmosphere so I don't recomend foot travel at all anyway. Why bother if you have a hoarse?

Re: Too much horse riding?
i hope that they add more variety to the creatures out in the field. it would make it alot more interesting to be able to fight monsters all the way across the field while your on horseback. and (hopefully) makeing it easier to find rupee's and items (bombs, etc).

Re: Too much horse riding?
You guys all say there will be a lot to do on horseback but have you considered too much action? Let me explain it this way.
You just got away from an exausting fight and your low on health. Now you have to ride your horse to the nearest town and buy a potion or search for hearts. But you have to fight all of these enemies put there to entertain you. Instead of doing that, they're a nusciense to fight, slow you down and possibly wind up defeating you Or you're tired of fighting in dungeons and all you want to do is ride around and enjoy the scenery. But nooooooo, Nintendo had to put all these enemies in for entertainment. And you're just so darn tired of fighting. Yes I think the Wind Waker had to little action but is it possible that Nintendo will go too far trying to make up for that? To me, its too early to tell. |
