Mirror Shield - OoT (Collector's Edition)

I've been playing my Collector's Edition Disk a lot lately, and I've finally gotten around to completing OoT on the Gamecube. I just finished the Spirit Temple, where I picked up the Mirror Shield and was like "What the heck is that?!?" . I noticed that the shield no longer sports the Crescent Moon symbol as it did in the N64 version. I remember reading about the change somewhere, but I don't remember the exact reason. I think they were forced to change it because it was against a religion or something....I can't remember. So what's the deal with it? And for reference, which version of OoT is on the Collector's Disk, the Golden Cartridge one or the plain cartridge?

I think they removed it due to religion, just as you said. If I had to take a guess at what religion, I'd say Islam. Just like they took out the chanting in the Fire Temple BGM in the original version.

well, in one of the guide books, I think, it had a different mirror shield shown, but you still got the one with the moon on it....
Probably religon...

Re: Mirror Shield - OoT (Collector's Edition)

It's the muslims fault. The fire temple music sounded like an islamic prayer so they found it offensive, and the crescent moon with the star is somehow similar to some relgious insignia of theirs. I'm not islamic so i don't know. They shouldnt of changed it anyway, its just a game. Whether its christians, jews, or muslims, they all worship the same God, but just call him a different name. God, Yahweh, Allah.

Re: Mirror Shield - OoT (Collector's Edition)

thats odd? oooooh! i now why they changed the shield (really it looked better with the moon) apparently the crescent moom looks a lot like the muslem terrorism sign. yah no the one with the crescent with a hammer through it? any way thats why i think they changed it. man ur just beating the spirit temple? wow i finished that on my n64 like,5-6 years ago? im mad tho. i never got those zelda special editon disc for the gc so i had to waste money on the gba versions of aol and loz. i like playing them on the gba tho cuz if my parents drag me on some long car trip i can play it then.

naww I beat it on the N64 obviously....it's like my eighth play through.

Odd how they'd change the crescent moon sign, but they left the Great Fairy Fountain structure that resembles an elegant cross. Not that it matters anyway.

Re: Mirror Shield - OoT (Collector's Edition)

Perhaps Christians around the world didn't find it as offensife as the Crescent? Wow, that just reminded me about a show on the History Channel. The Crusades: Crescent and the Cross. Apparantly the crescent is as much a symbol of Islam as the cross is of Christianity...

I noticed that too....i was really confused at first, and I looked at one of those blocks in the forest temple, and realized that it wasn't the same symbol. I didn't know why they changed it though, but I guess reading what you guys said, it changed because of religion?

It's the grey cartridge. Even the Master Quest is the toned down version with the new symbol that's carried over to even Soul Calibur 2. @.@ I liked the crescent one better. :/

Re: Mirror Shield - OoT (Collector's Edition)

Yeah, I was really bummed out about the new look. I always thought it had something to do with Wind Waker, since it looked sorta like it had something to do with water or wind, but that was before I had even played Wind Waker or read an article explaining the change. Anyways, the Great Faeries (What, wrong spelling? Play the SNES version of ALttP and you'll see I'm right.) were originally going to be wearing white dresses or something, and then Christians were offended, and what did Nintendo do? Well, they pretty much said, "What, so now we can't make them look like elegant beings? Well, then we'll make them look like they work in Vegas." And there you go. It's my own theory there, the thing in quotes, but Christians really were offended by the dress. Conflicted with their religion or something. Well, let's just hope that they aren't offended by the Great Faeries in Twilight Princess! Oh... That'd be kinda... scary...

Re: Mirror Shield - OoT (Collector's Edition)

I always liked the cresent moon better. It seemed to give off more of a distintive symbol for the Geredo race and how there theives. And theives always are none to stock through the night so... well you know what I mean.

Re: Mirror Shield - OoT (Collector's Edition)

I noticed the change right away. In the Great Deku Tree, I saw the different pattern on the block and thought, "Huh? That's not right." Yeah, the crescent moon and star symbol was a bit more distinctive for the Gerudo race. Why would people even throw a fit about this kind of thing in games? Shouldn't they have been ranting about violence or something? Come on, there had to be some people that were offended by the Great Faeries!

it is an islamic symbol. the chanting is back in the CE... does it sound like a specific prayer? just wondering...
the collector's edition mirror shield looks nice though.

i was kinda irritated... does that count?
i think using the islam symbol was a nice idea, very distinctive, yes. but maybe they were offended because of the association with the gerudos... i could see why.
was anyone complaining about the great faeries in the WW? the ones with the arms?
personally, i liked them better than the OoT ones.
i think it's neat how they incorporate a lot of real world aspects in the zelda games, (e.g. rupees, sheiks, etc.)

Re: Mirror Shield - OoT (Collector's Edition)

I really liked the Crescent Moon symbol in OoT. That's why in my fanfic, I used that symbol as the Symbol of the Moon, or in general just the symbol that represents the power of the moon in this story.
