Lightbulb Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

Nintendo Power stated that the Twilight Realm's effects are made by using the cel-shading technique. Enemies come out of a cel-shaded portal, Minda's hat is cel-shaded(for those of you who don't know), and the enemies we saw in the Twilight Realm, the insignas on their chests are made by using the cel-shading technique. So far that is all I know, but cel-shading takes a huge role in the Twilight Realm.

A little cel shading is fine, but in cases like the wind-waker... *shudder*

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

I don't think cel-shading will be a MAJOR factor in the Twilight Realm. The cel-shading is used just to add a specific effect to the creatures and portals other than that cel-shading should and hopefully wont be a huge part of the Twilight Realm.

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

I mentioned this in another one of my posts. I believe they are using the cell-shaded appearance to give the Twilight Realm a surreal and distant feeling. With the whole area looking still, cold, and burnt, it makes sense to give it a sharp bland and white feeling, which would be less fully realized in a realistic and natural environment. It visually disorients you from the rest of the game, which makes sense considering Link is a wolf, something which would confuse anyone. It also seems to show that this game will further connect OoT and tWW.

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

Hm.. yeah I noticed this when I saw the last trailer.. but I thought it was unecessary to bring up considering the great anti-WW/cel-shading mob here...

I could care less if there is cel-shading or not in the game - as long as it looks good/cool.

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

I wish that people would really get over cel-shaded graphics. People, don't let graphics ruin a good game for you!! Wind Waker was a great game, and so many people missed the oppurtunity to play the game because they obsessed over how the game looked, or because they died before it was released.

Back to this topic, so what? Just because there is a little cel-shading going on in the Twilight Realm does not mean that the game is ruined. WHy do you all hate cel-shading so much?

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

I am wondering what to what degree they will use cel-shading in the Twilight. Popping from a realistic world to a compeletly cartoony one would be a bit weird, that idea works fine in The Water Babies, but not so sure in TTP. I think the Twilight will be just more "stylized".

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

Let me explain a little something to all of you:

Cel-Shading is NOT exemplified by Wind Waker. Wind Waker does use cel-shading, yes. But it used an incredibly cartoony approach. That was intentional. It is not a product of the graphics type. A couple of examples of a cel-shaded games are Tales of Symphonia and XIII. They don't look all that 'kiddy,' now do they? Cel-shading is not the devil, kids.

From the look of it, I'd say the entire game is, but how obvious it is is varied.

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

technically, wasn't just a few things actually cel-shaded in WW? like the water, some enemies, effects and Link himself? the landscapes and props looked like usual but with cartoony textures.

sorry for OT

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

The only cel-shaded thing I've seen is midnas magical arm.

"the insignas on their chests are made by using the cel-shading technique."

I'm no expert at this, but that's just stylized textures. Cel-shading is (as the name suggests) a special shading technique, it's got nothing to do with what artistic style that are used for textures or how the models are built.

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

Mostly, as BLT stated, the cel-shading is only used as detailing...unlike WW.

This I agree with. It would make sense that they did this to get the twilight feel into the twilight realm. And I like it because I like cel shaded graphcs, which is why I like WW so much.

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

I think a little cel-shading will look AWSOME in this game.
And you're right there is some cel-shading!
You know a mixture of cel and realistic graphics is perfect and will be awsome for this or any other Zelda games.
Cool observation! Thanks for sharing!

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

A lot of games use celshading techniques for certain things. An example would be the targetting computer in Rogue Squadron 2 and 3. What seperated Thw Wind Waker from the rest was just that the artstyle demanded that celshaded textures be used more often, but TWW wasn't COMPLETELY celshaded because there were still a lot of things that used graphical based textures...

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

It seems as though only the twilight will use obvious cell-shading, and I think thats perfectly fine. The twilight realms are black and white, so it makes perfect sense not to use any gradiation when you are shading.

Re: Twilight Realm Cel-Shaded

I love WW style. And I love how they are going to have a little (not like TWW) cartoony parts in TP, like in the trailer when the monsters fall ouy of a portal form the sky..

yea i agree with BLT that it is just to give a diffrent feel to the TR, nothing more.
