FSA portal trouble--please help me!

hello,

my son and i have been playing Four Swords Adventure for a while now (he's only five, so things can be a bit slow going ). we are on the swamp level and we have a problem: only i was able to go through the portal made by the moon pearl. his two characters are stuck on the other side of that l-shaped swamp. there is no return portal for me to try and carry him through or something, and for whatever reason his characters will not go through the portal.

this same thing happened to us in a dungeon a few levels back, but by losing a few lives we were still able to make it through. this time, however, there seems to be no way around it.

what do we do? my son and i love this game. we've been trying to figure out how to get both of us through this portal for the last two hours. our game boy batteries have died. how do we both get through this portal?

Anyway, there SHOULD be a return portal...just try looking
harder. I think the problem is well...two Link's must have
to stay out of the portal at all times. Its the only explanation
if you have tried everything. It must be a multiplayer condition
because I am sure that all four Links can go through the portal in
one player.

Some portals have colors in the Multiplayer version of Hylian Adventure. What you have to do, I assume, is go into the portal, and then pick up the shadows of your son's persons and carry them to the opposite side of the swamp. But how to get yourself across, I'm not sure...

Well, it doesn't say anything about the exit portal being different in multiplayer, so...just go up and to the right of the L-shaped pond and there should be an exit there.

thanks for the welcome... i've been a Zelda junkie ever since the original 8-bit--i think it came out when i was 7 or 8.

as for the portal mess, well, i (green and blue) got through fine. we came out the other side and talked to Dampe and got the bracelet and all. my poor little son, though, (red and purple) were stuck there on the other side of that swamp, totally unable to get through the portal. i hadn't thought of trying to pick up his shadow... i'll have to try that when our game boys are recharged (i wasn't kidding that we had run out our batteries! ...now we have to jump through that cursed swamp again).

yeah, unfortunately with this whole 'adult' thing i've not had the time to play any of the big Zelda games since Ocarina of Time. i have kept up with most of the Game Boy ones (easy to put in a pocket and take to the bathroom at work, heh heh), though. FSA is the first big console Zelda i've picked up in a while, 'cause i thought it would be cool to play with my family and try to get them as obsessed as i am. (^_^)

uh this is a guess but you mentioned that two of your people are stuck on oneside?
well i never encountered that problem (i played one player) but if worst comes to worst beat that particular level in 1player mode and if two of your characters get stuck, select the Link closest to the destination and hit L to regroup.

I was about to suggest that. The bit I got stuck on for ages and in the end had to find a walkthrough for was in the graveyard.

Have you tried pressing X or Y?? I think that should get them back to you.
