Things you LIKED about TP ("dun dun dun*)

Okay, there are obviously lots of TP "haters" out there...

But I've seen next to no people who said that they outright hated the game. For example, I myself felt that it was the worst 3d main-console Zelda to date (those are the only ones I've played), but I can't actually say that it was a bad game.

But what did you like about TP?

I liked the City in the Sky dungeon. Standing on top of the pillars after killing Argorok made me feel powerful. Also, DOUBLE CLAWSHOTS!!!

NOTE: This is NOT an anti-TP-hater thread.

I like everything that isn't the Forest Temple.

It's boring and filled with those damn Skulltulas which I hate.

But yes, everything else about TP was epic.

I liked the big things about it. Stuff like graphics, and the size of the game, the epicness. I also like how small characters who I didn't pay much attention to became big parts of the game later. And the final fight with Ganon was sick.

Re: Things you LIKED about TP ("dun dun dun*)

I agree with the OP on the City in the Sky. It's most definately the deepest, most challengng dungeon in the game with the deepest puzzles, and a variety of enemies. If anything, the people who complain about it are just doing so out of the fact that it didn't look enough like a "city" as they had hoped.

I also liked how the game made Link much more expressive than ever before, all his facial expressions are different in the cinematics, and the motion capture helps with capturing it as well. All this done while keeping him a mute for the sake of series tradition. I also think it's the most character-involving story since Majora's Mask, only instead of having them around for the sake of potential side-quests, they're usually worked into the main plot itself.

Also, Midna was probably one of the more developed characters thus far in the series, especially as a side kick (one of my faves along with King of Red Lions).

As far as what I didn't like about the game, my biggest gripe comes from the fact that while it maintains the core element of the Zelda series, opting to refine and modernize the 3D Zelda game formula instead of innovate it, that consequentially gave it kind of a "paint-by-numbers" sense of linearity in terms of the actual formula, but being a Zelda fan since age seven (>10 years) I'm not gonna hold it so much against a game when it was the INTENTION for making the "last Zelda of its kind".

Re: Things you LIKED about TP ("dun dun dun*)

The one thing that sticks out the most about the game is the aesthetics. It has a much darker feel than, well, anything in the series (MM is debatable, though), the graphics were really nice, the field felt VERY good and I personally liked the music very much. It gave it a very ambient feel, especially in the Desert and during the night in the field. Some of the boss tracks were also very good, the one that plays during the fight against Ganon (i.e. beast form) is probably my favourite of the bunch. The story's also really good, and one of the most gruesome so far.

And despite the dungeons being so excessively linear and rarely ever using any of the items more than in the dungeon you get it, they did have a generally good flow to them. Easy, sure, but there was still a good feel about it all. I also have very little complaints about the overworld, if any at all.

Regarding the bosses, though, the huge undead...thing was really good, and they generally looked very nice, which kinda ties in with the whole "great aesthetics" part.

Overall, a very solid game. Not an amazing one, but solid. Only complaints I really have are the linear, easy dungeons, but even they have a good flow to it.

Re: Things you LIKED about TP ("dun dun dun*)

There were a few things I was impressed with, especially some of the boss battles. I loved Fyrus, Armogohma (and this wasn't even spoiled for me) and Argorok. After that, just the fact that it was a new Zelda game. I hadn't played games much in years, so when I picked this up it was nostalgia heaven.

Also, I didn't get caught up in it's huge hype whatsoever, so that helped me like it a whole lot more than most.

I don't want to post a huuuuge message, so I'll summarize it:

The likable things easily outweigh the negative things- it's much easier to count those. The overall presentation and the music are fantastic, the gameplay virtually flawless and the game is lengthy. The characters are interesting, the plot engaging and I very much enjoyed the game.

Re: Things you LIKED about TP ("dun dun dun*)

The combat, while still too easy, was the deepest we've seen from Zelda. Wind Waker introduced the parry system and Twilight Princess expanded it. I think combat in Twilight Princess controls better than any other game, so the framework is there. What is needed is more intensity, which could come from more aggressive enemies, higher damage counts, dynamic AI, environmental hazards, increased game speed, fewer recovery hearts, and strategic enemy placement.

As a corollary to the combat system, the Cave of Ordeals deserves mention. The CoD was a genuine challenge and the domain where the combat shined brightest.

I think the Twilight Realm and the pacing for the first three dungeons also deserve credit. The development of story and game play alike seemed much more inspired and focused for the first 1/3 - 1/2 of the game. The atmosphere was engrossing; using the meteor to thaw Zora's Domain was a powerful moment for me. And then you had "Returning to Princess Zelda," a short but beautiful segment that thrived on the feelings it evoked.

Finally, the Wii control, which I was initially skeptical of, was impressive. The button economy was superb; the aiming of projectiles second to none.

Things I liked about TP...

*Graphics. "Everything's so pretty... ._."
*CATS. "Cats are everywhere! And I can CARRY them!" Guess my favorite area.
*Lake Hylia. Come on. That place is freaking gorgous.
*Twili. They are awesome.
*Zant.
*The story. It was pretty awesome. I just whish they had done more to bulk it out.
*Fighting on Epona is win.
*I liked how detailed the towns were. It's probably done more because of the graphics, but the towns made me happy.
*Serenade of Water. Its there. And I love it.
*...Zant.

The parts I liked the most were... 1) The Graphics/colors (everything was so light and glowish) 2) Castle town 3) Lake Hylia 4) and finally, the story. It's one of my favorite games EVER.

Re: Things you LIKED about TP ("dun dun dun*)

Oh, I forgot to mention the Twilight parts of the game. I actually liked those portions where you were just going around, collecting the tears of light. The areas were very enchanting and actually felt like they were ruined places, and the people's fear felt very authentic. The atmosphere there was also amazing, some of the best I have seen in the whole series.

And yes, the combat system was very good. It had the standard short combo that the other 3-d games have had, but it also had all these other moves that could really make fights very dynamic. And sometimes they were, but...well, the system itself was good. Let's just leave it at that.

yep! same here, dude! Sometimes the internet is a true curse

But yeah. The Overworld was awesome! I loved how real everything looked! I felt like i was really in Hyrule.
Epona. I loved how they made her into a huge clydesdale horse! also the fact you can talk to her and fight on her!
Midna. She was neato! I loved her story and her voice was awesome.
Fighting. Yeah the skills were great! i loved using them!
Wolf Link. I enjoyed playing as a wolf!
To be perfectly honest, i dont have any gripes with this game.

I loved the boss battle with Argorok! He was sooo cool and fun to fight. I also liked riding Epona and being able to use your sword. Learning the hidden skills was also pretty cool.

This is my favorite thread.

Oh, and probably my most favorite part of Twilight Princess was The City in the Sky, just because it seemed so epic, and had such a great feel about it. Also, bashing on the giant spider in the Temple of Time made me feel good, since I hate all spiders.
