Has anyone else noticed the absence of the Gerudo in WW?

Save for Ganondorf, they seemed to have been wiped out. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this?

Re: Has anyone wondered what happened to the Gerudo in WW?

I always figured they were any pirates that roam the seas. I mean not Tetra's pirates but whatever other pirates there are out on the sea. It was kinda hinted that they would be in MM. SO i think that is they best possibility.

By the way: The image tag is [img*]thisismyurl[*/img] just remove the *'s.

At the beginning of the game, Tetra mentions how the Forsaken Fortress used to be occupied by rival pirates, or some such thing. My guess is those were the last of the Gerudo.

Ganon: My country lay within a vast desert. When the sun rose into the sky, a
burning wind punished my lands searing the world. And when the moon climbed
into the dark of night, a frigid gale pierced our homes. No matter when it
came, the wind carried the same thing: death.
I'm guessing that they all died due to something, or there could be a few surviving.

Re: Has anyone wondered what happened to the Gerudo in WW?

I think that they were either killed or transformed into monsters by Ganondorf when he returned. Tetra hints that the Forsaken Fortress was where the Gerudo lived, so either Ganondorf killed them when he took over or he transformed them into his most loyal minions, such as the Moblins, Bokoblins, and Miniblins.

Re: Has anyone wondered what happened to the Gerudo in WW?

Of course, they could also be hiding out somewhere you can't access in Wind Waker.

And Gerudos have to breed, don't they? In OoT, a gossip stone said that they Gerudos come to Hyrule Town to get "boyfriends"... these boyfriends would not have Gerudo blood, so when they have children (99% would be female), they would only be semi-Gerudo. And as the generations pass, they eventually become non-existant.

Re: Has anyone wondered what happened to the Gerudo in WW?

Yes, for all we know, the Humans of the Great Sea could be Hylian-Gerudo hybrids. And I say Humans because that's what they're called in "The Wind Waker", not Hylians. So they may be a hybrid, considering the races were similar enough to have offspring that could reproduce. If that's the case that would mean that Hylians and Gerudos are just different races, not entirely different species, but I think most people figured that already.

Re: Has anyone wondered what happened to the Gerudo in WW?

My impression is that the last remaining Gerudo lived in the Forsaken Fortress, but fled when Ganondorf returned to the realm of the....unfrozen.

The Gerudo most likely had kept a record of the ancient King who conquered Hyrule, but to be Imprisoned in a great War. (Imprisoning War, anyone?) After he returned to Hyrule, he did more than conquer it, he utterly wiped out everything. If the Gerudo were informed of the sealing of Ganon and Hyrule, many of them would have betrayed their King and escaped to a high mountain. Then he returns. Wouldn't you flee?

Perhaps the Gerudo left Hyrule altogether after Ganon's return? That would explain why they are seen only once in the time after that. I refer to the Maiden, which was the descendant of Nabooru.

Yeah, the gods chose the ones worthy enough to make future, and sent them to the mountains. And i have a funny feeling that they didnt get sent to the mountains, cause their with Ganondorf.

Re: Has anyone wondered what happened to the Gerudo in WW?

They wouldn't be killed, Hyrule was preserved and simply trapped in time.
I think the Gerudos, like the Gorons and perhaps other creatures, took the closest boat out of there. Maybe the former owners of the Forsaken Fortress were Gerudos, but I think there are still others. Perhaps some of the current people have Gerudo blood as well, who knows?

When you finish the game you will find what happened to them. They all died by a burning wind and Ganon is the last of them.

Re: Has anyone wondered what happened to the Gerudo in WW?

Yeah, Ganondorf just said that everyday, during the day his land was treated cruelly by the wind with its heat, and during the night his land was treated cruelly by the wind with its cold. He explains that he coveted the wind that Hyrule had because it was a temperate region and such. That's not how the Gerudos became extinct, they had to leave everyday like that.

That defenitly is not what happened to them. You can't just take one sentance and assume that is what the whole speaches means.

I didn't take one sentance, I took the whole segment of his monologue. In which he tells that the wind brings death to his people, and then when you defeat him he proclaims;

"The wind... it is blowing."

Thumbs up

Uhh, Mercutio i think people(including myself) were refering to vbouzoukes. Your quote is fine, as when you use the burning wind you don't say that is what killed them. They had to put up with it everyday.

Ah okay, yeah the wind wouldn't kill them, but it could kill livestock and cause a shortage of food and water...

Re: Has anyone wondered what happened to the Gerudo in WW?

Exactly, and the killing of the livestock and no water could bring death from malnutrition, and sand scourching past your body at 80 miles an hour could kill you. But the chance of an entire race dieing from something that happens everyday is very slim.

Re: Has anyone wondered what happened to the Gerudo in WW?

Um, this is off-topic but I didn't remember the quote from Ganon until I saw it in Mercutio's post and the way he said it gave me a feeling he wasn't that bad... but that's just me, and obviously after gaining so much power and having to wicked witches as mothers ANY person can become bad....
