Sounds kind of campy, but it would also be fun to be able to 'customize' stuff too - I don't mean something crazy-huge like the Hideouts in Pokemon, but...I dunno, something like Chrono Trigger, where you win stuff and it shows up at your house. I know we had the cow in OOT, but it would be fun to have other stuff too!

Did anyone ever transcribe the Roundtable? That might be good to throw in here too.

I doubt this is what you're looking for, but its all I could find. I'll do one myself tomorrow.

The roundtable starts off with a couple introductions, then cuts to direct-feed footage of Nate Bihldorff playing. We learn that the E3 demo features four areas: A town, a horseback battle scene on Hyrule Field, a dungeon and a boss battle that follows the dungeon. For those who don't remember, this is very similar to what the E3 2002 demo for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker had. The demo starts with Link riding his horse around a small village known as Tauro Village, which has a goat ranch. We see that he's attempting to herd goats into a barn. We're told that Link starts off as a "cowboy" because they wanted to bring back the horse, which you can name yourself. Also, since the world is so large, they wanted it to make sense that Link would need the horse to ride everywhere. In order to possess those skills, it made sense to have him work as a ranchhand or shepherd, as they refer to him as. Interestingly enough, the word "shepherd" isn't understood by most Japanese, so the development team used "cowboy" instead.

The town is actually some distance from Hyrule because they wanted to setup Link's identity away from the main world. In terms of the storyline, this is a different Link than in Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker. In fact, TP falls between OoT and WW, a few decades after OoT. The motivation for Link's journey occurs later on when a young child from the village, Colin, is kidnapped by a boar rider in a forest near the village. The fact that Link can turn into a wolf is mentioned and we learn that Link can communicate with animals while in the form of the wolf.

After the forest kidnapping scene, they cut to a horseback battle scene (Horse Battle in the E3 demo) in Hyrule Field, where we see Link attacking boar riders, with the option to hit with his sword, defend or use items. And while you don't see it in the footage, they mention that the AI of the boar riders is quite impressive. If you stop to watch a boar rider that's been knocked off, he'll get up and try to get back on. For an idea of scale, it's noted that this is only one small area of Hyrule Field.

Following this is a battle against the lead boar rider that kidnapped Colin, which takes place in the form of a joust. This scene takes place further on in the game and not immediately following the Horse Battle area in Hyrule Field. There are also said to be lots of horseback elements in the game, not just combat ones. Not all items will be useable on the horse, but any that would make sense to have on a horse will be useable.

Next, we cut to a dungeon titled the Forest Temple. Much like OoT, most dungeons will be theme based. On the subject of sword combat, the battle system uses an enhanced version of the one found in WW by expanding the combo system. They say it's basically a new engine because of all the changes that had to be made.

In the dungeon, Link acquires the Gale Boomerang, which is the familiar boomerang that we're all used to, but when thrown, it produces a whirlwind, which can be used to rotate dials like the ones found in WW. In fact, many of the items you're used to seeing will reappear in TP with new usages. Naturally, there will be new items as well. The item selection screen has been changed to a circle-format selection screen. Their reasoning is that this will eliminate the knowledge of how many items you have left to uncover, thus not giving away how far into the game you are. They say it won't clutter the screen and all the items will be easier to access now.

Finally, we cut to the Temple Boss, which requires the use of the Gale Boomerang. In the battle, you lock onto a monkey carrying a bomb who is swinging from side to side, then lock onto the boss and release. Then, the whirlwind from the boomerang picks up the bomb and carries it over to the boss, blowing up and causing it to fall. Once fallen, you can move in and hit it with your sword. The boomerang will be used to carry items in other areas of the game as well and you can pretty much lock onto anything, they say.

At the end, Miyamoto is asked what items he feels would be needed in every Zelda game to retain the proper feel. He says that he likes the horse for the "big Zelda feeling". Aonuma is asked how many dungeons there will be, to which he replies that he wants to surpass OoT, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they need to surpass the number of dungeons. The content of those dungeons is what is most important.

I'll let you know if I find anything you guys missed. I support you whole-heartedly in this endeavor. Finally, a way to easily sift through vast amounts of information regarding TP and quickly prove misspoken fools wrong with my overwhelming mental prowess. ^_^ Why didn't I think of this before? Good work, guys!

Figure it out! You'd be shocked about how invaluable a scanner can be. I need one for numerous reasons (mainly to upload my artwork to a safer medium), and you not using yours is like a slap in the face! Those steaming heaps of piles of hardware are awesome, and you damn well better use it! XD

Re: The Twilight Princess Hype Thread

[Edit]

Ha HAH! I have found a very strong piece of evidence that the so-called "Twilight Princess Overworld Theme" is actually just ripped from the E3 '05 playable demo! Listen very carefully to the beginning of clip #8 of IGN's footage, and you will hear the first two or so seconds of the song... which is identical to the beginning of the supposed overworld theme! That would explain why someone was able to get their hands on it so quickly, and where they obtained it from. I always thought that was a little suspicious.

Re: The Twilight Princess Hype Thread

I doubt it. Somehow the relation between the first five seconds of the Hyrule Field theme and the first five seconds of the lobby theme from the Collector's Edition makes me think that wouldn't be the case. I was just feeling gratified for figuring out that the song is not officially the overworld theme for TP. ^_^

Re: The Twilight Princess Hype Thread

Okay, I did a transcribe for videos 1-5. It took a lot longer than I thought.

Interviewer: Were starting off here in the town. Link starts this game off as a cowboy and Im curious, why is it that Link is a cowboy in the game?

SM: The reason we decided to go with this cowboy track is that obviously we wanted to bring back the horse, everybody loves the horse. And this time, you know in the previous games, the horse had a name in the game, but this time youll be able to name the horse yourself, so thats kind of attractive. One of the things, again the main purpose here is that because Hyrule, in this realistic representation, you need to understand how big it really is. And the idea that Link is going to be able to walk across this is really not realistic. So in order to match that graphic representation, we wanted Link to be able to, you know, hes obviously going to need his horse as transportation. And in order for them to have that real feeling of partnership and for Link to be a very realistic, for, for it to be realistic that Link is a good horsemen, we wanted to start out with him as this cowboy Link as Mr. EA has turned him. So hes here, in this village, as you can see riding his horse around herding goats.
Interviewer: So my question is then, rather than Link being a Clin Eastwood style of cowboy, hes more like a ranch hand.

SM: Okay, so, yeah, hes not really the Eastwood, hes really a cowboy even, hes more of a sheep, no, theyre goats, so more of a goat Shepard. However, most Japanese people dont understand the word Shepard, so our development team, we used the word cowboy, which is more familiar, although hes more of a Shepard than an actual western style cowboy.

Interviewer: So my question then is, what were seeing here are some scenes from the town, and obviously it looks like, uhh, and Im asking you, is this the initial stages of the game that were seeing Link in here, and what kind of a relationship does he have with the various people in town?

SM: This Legend Of Zelda is based in the land of Hyrule, what we wanted to do is kind of set Link apart from that at the beginning of the game, so weve created this village that is a little bit of a distance from Hyrule, and its not that hes not going to go there, actually we start out with him in the village kind of set up his identity as this Shepard, this ranch hand, and the game starts with him getting ready to go to Hyrule.

Interviewer: So then, so in this game, Link would be a different Link than the Link we saw in The Ocarina Of Time or The Wind Waker?

SM: Yes, hes a new Link.

Interviewer: And in terms of the overall Zelda storyline, where does Twilight Princess fall in?

SM: So this is, as far as timeframe goes, chronologically speaking, it will take place a few decades after The Ocarina Of Time.

Interviewer: So would that fall between Ocarina and Wind Waker then?

SM: Yes.

Interviewer: So my next question then is if we have Link here starting off in town as a cowboy or a goat Shepard, how does he end up falling in line in, you know, setting off on this journey to become the hero?

SM: Nate, stop playing with your sword and head to the forest. *slight laughter* There is a scene that will kind of give us an idea of how Link starts on his journey to become hero. So theres a scene here, at the end of this, that kind of, again illustrates the beginning of the journey.

Yeah, its good. It has the upstairs floor, the main level and a basement! Quite spiffy in my opinion. To have a cool house, I really like the idea. And its not a small pointless room like in OoT and the other 2-D ones. Majoras Maks had the inn though, that was quite good.

Well, theres my first contribution. Probably won't be my last either. ~_o
Yes, I knew that Link would have his own house-and I've seen it! It was somewhere in some footage I saw...hang on a sec, I'll go looking for it again...

EDIT: Found it! They don't allow direct Links, so I'll just link you to the page that it's on

go to the one that's called "Toaru Village", somwhere 3/4ths into the clip it briefly shows the inside of Link's house. The beginning of the clip is also very funny, poor Link, being told off by Illia!

Very simple... Check the first post here. It will answer all of your questions. "Videos 1-5" is in reference to the first five videos of IGN's live gameplay footage which was released earlier this year, just after E3. Watch them to find out a lot about the game and to see the horse controls in action. They look really smooth; Nintendo was always best at gameplay controls. "Possible Overworld Theme" is in reference to a track someone ripped from the lobby of the E3 playable demo for TP and claimed it was the overworld theme. It was most likely a hoax, but it's still a nice song. Downloadable above. Terrible quality, though.

Re: The Twilight Princess Hype Thread

I'd thought that "Possible Overworld Theme" was the background music for the special DS carts they were handing out at E3, or am I totally wrong?

It's MIDI, which is one thing that made me itch a little. If that's the overworld theme, I'd rather have something orchestrated.
