Do you consider Fi female?

Aonuma doesn't. He says Fi appears feminine, but he considers it to be a genderless figure.

Despite what he says, (being the creator of course), I find it impossible not to consider Fi a female character. Most robots in fiction are technically genderless anyway, simply being a clump of complex machinery in a masculine body or a feminine one, but are still considered "he" or "she". Considering her female makes her easier to identify with, rather then considering her an "it". For a lot of people, she already seems to be a difficult character to warm up to or identify with, so calling her a "she" rather then an "it" makes it slightly easier for some reason.

So for me, Fi is a girl. What about you?

Re: Do you consider Fi female?

Fi is definitely a female to me.

Scrapper refers to Fi as "Mistress Fi", so I guess that means that Fi is "female". And they're both robots as well, so I guess they can understand each other a lot more than humans.

Re: Do you consider Fi female?

Going by a robot an alias, then there is a 100% chance Fi is neither female or male.
However as a human, I'd say it's a female.

Yeah, I'd say she's female.
I got the impression that she had a more female AI vibe to her than a gender-less robot.

True, but spirits in Zelda always seem to be "alive" in that they have personalities. (Saria and the other Kokiri for example are considered forest spirits.) Fi seems more like a robot then the Ancient Robots. It's probably not the best way to describe her... maybe artificial life form? She may not be a machine/robot in the strictest sense of the word, but she certainly feels like one.

Re: Do you consider Fi female?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she's female. Sounds Female, looks female, and as my pal Eternal Legend said, she is addressed as "Mistress Fi".

It was never in question for me.

If it wasn't for Anonuma's statement that he doesn't consider Fi female, it never would have been for me either.

Definitely female, since "it" has a feminine look to "it."

Every female character in the series is attracted to Link
Fi is not attracted to Link.

∴ Fi is not female.

Re: Do you consider Fi female?

Of course not. That was a joke. Obviously she's a chick. Look at her. Listen to her voice. Watch at other characters speaking to her.

I honestly think that was Aonuma saying "don't draw them having sex like what you did last time, you sick ❤❤❤❤s" more than anything else.

And that's the ticket.

"It" maybe genderless, but "it" certainly looks and sounds like a female, so I'll consider Fi as such.

True.

That's just like Miyamato saying Navi was in love with Link.

Really?!

Re: Do you consider Fi female?

Fi is genderless if we're going to be exact and official, as she has no genitals and whatnot. I don't think she even has breasts. She was designed as a basic being lacking in emotion, only being designed as an entity that can assist Hylia's chosen hero and then her purpose is fulfilled. So, official Fi has no gender. However, Hylia clearly designed Fi to have a feminine appearance and that is why, if we're to be personal and non-official, we can choose to see Fi as spiritually being a female being but not physically. I think Hylia may have thought Link would be more comfortable with a partner who has a feminine appearance.

This is a similar case for Demise, who Fi herself calls an "it" and we call a "he." I think beings such as Fi and Demise are officially genderless and are entities that cannot reproduce and lack genitals, only taking on the appearance of a certain gender. So Fi is female if that is how we want to perceive her, but officially a genderless entity lacking a physical corpse.

I remember reading that statement. Totally ridiculous. Navi was hardly had any form of relationship with Link, not even by the end. She was always just sort of... there. It is ironic that Fi, who is intended to lack emotion and only do what she is tasked to, has a more developed and deeper relationship with Link than Navi did. Fi's relationship with him was interesting, especially going by her parting words and how travelling with him made her understand human emotion much more, how she considers her "data" of her time with him the most precious she has on record. I forgot Navi was even there most of the time due to her almost non-existent role in the story. Did she even have any cut scenes with dialogue other than her short introduction and and non-dialogue few seconds of disappearing at the end? Sorry if I come across as ranting, I just find Miyamto's statement bonkers. Then again, he also referred to the Hylians as elves and didn't use their official, actual name within the Zelda universe, so I might argue he has much to learn about his own series. Though, he isn't very involved with the story side of things, so it's no surprise that he doesn't seem to know these things.

Re: Do you consider Fi female?

She is sexless, not genderless. The whole "Fi doesn't have genitals" doesn't make her genderless, it makes her sexless. Fi has a gender - she talks, looks, and acts like a female, so why wouldn't she be considered female? It was never a question for me, either.

That's like saying if a male acts, looks, talks and dresses like a female, he is a female. He can so choose to say he is and he may very well be at heart, but he isn't officially until he has a sex change. The same goes vise versa. I don't think Fi would even consider herself a gender of any kind if she had been asked by another character, but those characters would still think of her as female. We can choose to call her a female because she "might as well" be.

She's not female, but that's how I see her. She's like the TX from terminator 3.
