Stamina meter

What do you think about the addition of the stamina meter in this game?

I can understand that it makes things more realistic. Nobody can run indefinitely and not ever get tired but truthfully I wish it didn't exist. It's a nuisance. It slows you down and you're temporarily disabled from performing combat or other actions while your stamina is out. I know it only takes a few seconds to replenish but it's still a real pain especially when crossing sand.

So what do you all think of the stamina meter?

When using it efficiently it's rarely a pain.

Re: Stamina meter

I was always frustrated when I would over-exert myself... but I think it was a good addition to the game. In a way, it prevents the "button-mashing" type of play that I had been doing previously.

Re: Stamina meter

I never ran into a problem with the stamina meter. In fact, most of the time I barely even thought about it being there.

I was very very very careful about the stamina meter during the fight near the end with the hordes.

I like that they added it. A lot of people complain about it, but I mean, when are you ever able to sprint or climb faster in a Zelda game?

It's just another one of those things in Skyward Sword that I have no strong feelings about. Which means I think it was a waste of time to bother implementing.

Re: Stamina meter

I thought the stamina meter was pretty sweet. I mean remember in Oot when you had to roll everywhere to move fast? The only thing about the stamina meter that I didn't like was in the Silent Realm for obvious reasons. But seriously it gives the game a little added difficulty which I don't mind.

Re: Stamina meter

It doesn't even make sense that it's in the Silent Realm, anyway. I mean, it's Link's spirit running around, right? How does a spirit get tired?

Force of habit, maybe.

Re: Stamina meter

I think it was a good addition to the game.

I enjoyed giving Link some sort of "boost" that had a limit that you need to watch out for.

It was nice to make his climb/sprint/dash swim faster than the Links in the previous 3D games.

Or the third fight with the imprisoned.

Honestly I loved the stamina meter. I can't spam spin attacks anymore.

Re: Stamina meter

The only times I ever had a real problem with it were during the Imprisoned fights, and running from the Guardians in the Silent Realms. Especially that last one...

Re: Stamina meter

The only time the stamina meter gets in the way is when you're constantly sprinting or doing sword spins, which were limited in Twilight Princess at least, and were more difficult to pull off in earlier games (and required charge time in ALttP). The stamina meter only limits was what either limited anyway (sword spinning) or not available at all (sprinting). Climbing is a little different, but I never ran into problems with stamina usually while playing through the game.

Re: Stamina meter

I don't get it; people are complaining about exactly the reason why it was added at all. It's supposed to be a challenge and used strategically, just like the new shield gauge. May as well be consider not being invincible a flaw at that point.

Re: Stamina meter

I like it. It keeps me from just spin attacking enemies to death, and if other sword skills were implemented they would likely require stamina too. It's also relevant in a few boss battles like the Imprisoned battles. It was an interesting new feature, and I liked that there was a way to sprint around.

Re: Stamina meter

It drove me about nuts in the last downhill run/fight with the hordes of demons. But other than that I was really happy with being able to actually run to places instead of walking moderately fast like in other Zelda games.

I also really liked that you could crawl faster also, really helped with the claustrophobia.

Fus-ro-dah! Oh wait.....you mean this isn't Skyrim?

I thought it was an interesting touch. I didn't like how Link would be totally wiped for a few seconds if it was drained completely.

Re: Stamina meter

The ability to sprint and efficiently scale ledges was long over-due. I do think you should have been able to sprint longer, or maybe even upgrade your boots to increase your endurance or speed.

I didn't think pushing a crate should have depleted stamina; that's just annoying.

Overall, I liked it.
