The Demons

As I was watching the Ending of Skyward Sword the other day, I realized something; The Demons didn't mention any of their power other than that they could take over The Surface and make it their own over time. People have been theorizing for years that this is that ancient dark tribe that created the Fused Shadows and the Majora's Mask, which still am sure as hell that they are, but there was no mention of what Lanayru witnessed alongside the 2 other Light Spirits long before TP. They made no mention of them using the Fused Shadows to take the Triforce and conquer all, but instead were banished to the Twilight Realm. What do you guys think? Do you think the Fused Shadows should have been in the game in some shape or form?

Re: The Demons

Demise and his goons are pretty much pre-Dark Intelopers. Demise is Satan himself in the Zelda world so I don't think it'd be very fitting. However the Dark Tribe probably has a long history including vairous villains in the series. In other words, while it's ignored, it isn't really even close to being covered either. There's still a lot open for an event like the story in TP's backstory to happen.

Re: The Demons

I think the dark interloper stuff happens some time after SS. In SS they specifically mention that the triforce should become hidden and fall out of memory so that people don't lust after it. Clearly that part didn't work out too well.

Yeah, if I recall the dark interlopers tried to break into the Sacred Realm which is when the Light Spirits from TP were summoned to stop them. So that means those events can't take place before SS.

Re: The Demons

These aren't Demons in the Judeo-Christian sense, their Oni.

Re: The Demons

The Interloper War was just one of the 7 (by my count) Triforce-related wars, the events of Skyward Sword being the second after the events in the intro. It probably took place in the hundred or so years between Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword, which I call the Great Upheaval.

My Goddess, I'm theorizing. Point is, Ghirahim and Co. aren't Interlopers.

No that's completely wrong on every level possible. There isn't a distinction here in Zelda, the demons in it are definitely Western style demons thematically and visually (though the Bokoblins in SS are oni-like).

They could just be, nothing is implied for or otherwise to be honest. The original story, in Japanese, just referenced a group of wizards/evil people who got sealed into the Mirror of Twilight. It's possible the same event told in Twilight Princess is an abridged version of the event told in Skyward Sword's intro.

Re: The Demons

Demon refer to possible things int he West, Spirits with no physical form at all (What I believe The Bible means by the word), or Fallen Angels.

Demons have a much larger history than that.

Re: The Demons

Making them anything beyond that (Like on Buffy) is just showing no respect for the Idea's origin in my view. I Love Buffy but that always bothered me on it. I wish Joss had just called them Monsters or something.

That could work. Take a look at what Fi has to say about Demise

So he apparently appears differently every time period, and perhaps even to people themselves. That fits with being spirits without a physical form - they simply manifest as whatever is feared by the onlooker.

Also I don't personally believe the Zelda creators are trying to get too deep with regards to the nature of western vs eastern demons. The Zelda series as a whole has been influenced by all sorts of cultures. They very well could have taken bits and pieces from different schools of thought on demons, and made their own variant.

I would probably laugh, except I don't get the reference. I hate it when that happens ><

Ghostbusters, I might have misquoted though.

When he said they had a larger history than that, did you really think he was referring to television?

that would make sense. It would also connect to Link's Awakening though that was only a dream.

Re: The Demons

I'm a little disappointed by the lack of Creativity in names. Just Demons and Demise? Rather uncreative, I'm used to Zelda having Moblins where standard fantasies have Goblins, and Gorons instead of Dwarves.
