3 heart challenge in Cave of Ordeals?

Great. I will try just dropping all the extras under the ledge.

I have no problem with bombs as minimalist. I had 8 bombs left I think by the time I reached level 49. On the second run it might be a different story.

Edit: Next run, reached room 47 with all 3 hearts, and ended in room 48 with 2.5 hearts. stupid rats.
Anyways, didn't pull out the ball and chain correctly twice, which cost me 1 heart. Then, received a hit by the darknut while finishing of the last aeralfos. Proceeded to destroy the darknut with half a heart.

I don't know if I was confused about last run, or if I was simply terrible at saving ammo this time, but had no bombs left.
Dropped down as you told me, and didn't get hit, however, because I was scared of alerting the other darknuts, I did the stupid mistake of trying to avoid a hit by sidestepping instead of backflipping. the darknut did a side slash instead of a downward swiped and died before even scratching his armor.

I am great at not getting hit throughout the dungeon now though... maybe next time...
(also, would anyone be interested in me taping next run?)

Can we use the hearts that can be dug up while in wolf form? There are several scattered throughout the cave, 3 hearts come out of one hole.

Yeah, I dug 'em up. I also used Purple chuchu jelly throughout the dungeon...which eventually killed me. =/ 4 bottles of chuchu jelly and all 4 of them poisoned Link. D=

I thought I was cheating, but now I know I'm not. I'd feel more accomplished doing it with no hearts, but I'll finish using hearts I dig up along the way.

I don't use purple chu jelly. I just don't trust it. What's the most it can recover? At the room where you fight the first three Darknuts, the hole there has a silver ruppee(200) (the more you know). It just disappionted me after a hectic battle.

Purple chuchu jelly is completely random which is why I carry several bottles full. xD It can heal 20 hearts (rare), it can heal 1 heart, it can make you lose 1 heart or it can make you lose all 20 hearts with one sip (rare) ...but it's all happened to me. Dx

Even if it takes away 20 hearts Link will keep 1/4th heart...he won't actually die directly from drinking it.

I'm doing it without digging hearts and nothing in my single bottle.
I haven't played in a while, maybe I'll give it another shot tomorrow.

True. I do use two Great Fairy's Tears if needed. By that I mean I'll use one when I have one heart or less left and I'm fighting Darknuts or something else that does heavy damage. Then, I'll fight for as long as I'm in the attack boost mode of the Fairy's Tears, then once I get hit once, I'll let them hit me until I get down to three hearts. I'd feel more accomplished if I don't use any hearts or other health recovery items, but I'll wait until I get more strategic for that. I try atleast once a night and I got to the four Darknuts last night and thought of different ways to start if off before jumping down, but it's crazy hard.

I just finished a 3-heart run of TP and am getting ready to try a 3-heart run of the cave. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which enemies are worth using my bombs and arrows on?

Here's the restrictions I plan on playing with:
-one bomb bag, no upgrades
-no quiver upgrades
-no magic armor
-no hidden skills learned (except the first one)
-Ordon shield and sword (don't have Hylian shield)
-2 empty bottles

Sounds nearly impossible.

Several others in this thread have nearly beaten the Cave with similar restrictions, so I think with a good strategy it's possible.

Yeahhh. I could never make it through that. The Chilfos things always get me. The ice section is kind of ridiculous for me. D=

I've never tried it before... I think any kind of 3 heart challenge in zelda games ruins the experience... since link is supposed to grow stronger after defeating bosses and collecting heart containers... rather to be static with three miserable hearts for the entire time...

3 heart challenges, while entertaining, are also hard to do.

So I made my first attempt at a 3-heart run of the Cave of Ordeals and made it all the way to room 39 and got over confident with the two Darknuts. I did make a list of every enemy in each room and strategies on how to beat them, so hopefully the next run will be a little more successful.

By the way I discovered that in room 35 I could take out the Freezard without jumping from the ledge! (I'm playing the GC version)
