Link's Transformation: Why a Wolf?

I've always wondered; Why, out of all the animals, does Link turn into a wolf? Not that I have anything against it, don't get me wrong. But does it symbolize courage or something?

Well, they said "beast", it could have been a bear, or a lion or something like that. I guess wolf made more sense. Otherwise, how else would he do those songs to unlock moves? hehe

Very true. Plus, I don't think Link could pull off a bear very well. *imagines, giggles uncontrollably*

I guess whenever I think of courage I think of a lion or somethin.

I think its just cuz maybe a wolf was considered more monsterish

Haven't you heard the phrase "Lone Wolf?"

And the fact that Link doesn't talk sorta sends out that "Lone" vibe.

I've heard the expression, just didn't know how it related to Link.

You could say the same for his Pink Bunny transformation!

Well, I've noticed Zelda tends to use some of the myths and things from OUR world (real life) and incorporate them into the games. I'm guessing it was Zelda's way of putting the werewolf myth into Zelda. Plus, wolves are greatly misunderstood animals. They used to be portrayed as ruthless monsters, but in many cultures wolves are held sacred. It really fits with the game, I dunno. Other animals might have been kinda lame, haha.

Like said before, Link being a wolf is IMO the best Nintendo could've used for an animal. As wolves are indeed somewhat mysterious. Link being a loner like some wolves are also makes the equation more obvious to go with a wolf.

Lions or bears wouldn't work, though that lions and bears stand for their strength, this are features that not per definition represent Link but more Ganon(dorf).

So, Link being transformed into a wolf symbolizes the embodiment of the "chosen hero" that of which is Link. So there's your story purposes.

I thought the wolf transformation was good, if not perfect, but sadly didn't live up to its potential gameplay-wise. Theres no use explaining it, we all know why.

.I to thought the wolf was a good trans. It had some limits, but that was ok. It sure the heck beat turning into a monkey or girraff!
