the gold wolf / dead soldier in twilight princess.

ok so the soldier that link learns those secret moves from. was he supposed to be anyone in particular? like maybe he was the previous link from ocarina of time or something. considering most of the songs that wolf link howls are songs from ocarina of time. specifically one of them was the prelude of light. HOWEVER! the singing stones all have the eye of the sheikah on them. was he supposed to be a sheikah soldier or the remains of the old link?

Why cant he just be the guy who teaches you things? Its just a ancient ghost of someone who knew about swords!

I thought about that too. It could possibly be OoT Link. He was pained for not passing on his skills, which is true because OoT Link left without teaching anybody, and never returned. He mostly seems to mostly howl tunes from OoT and MM, which is oddly peculiar. Finally, he seems to select you, the holder of the Triforce of Courage, to teach his skills to. It makes a lot of sense, that he is a bloodline descendant of the Hero of Time(OoT Link). He would want to pass on his secrets onto to a descendant of his more than anyone else.
He also could be the father of TP Link which you never meet. TP Link's father might have been a great warrior, that would have passed his skills onto you, but died before he could. After seeing you being transformed into a wolf, he realized you were in great danger, and became aware that you needed his powers. He appeared to you and finally decided to give his skills to you. He then placed howling stones around hyrule knowing you could howl like a wolf to call him. Then he could pass the skills to you. He might have hid the fact that he was your father from you, because he didn't want you to know. I think it's possible.

I think most people accept that the Hero Shade is probably the OoT Hero of Time.

first off he is called the hero's shade, and we never know link didn't pass on his skills because he dont know what happens after MM he could of went back to hyrule found a chick and got giggy with her, and then started up a sword school for all the soon-to-be hero's or he might of became a royal hylian knight and taught the new soldiers how to sword fight, and it couldn't of been the OoT link because he would of had some more resemblence to him and he clearly isnt becuase he is way to high to be him.

Most likely a Hyrulean soldier.

To claim that he is OoT Link would mean Link abandoned his tunic and used a completely different set of armour and symbolised himself as a wolf.

Looks more like a soldier than Link any day, unlikely he is Link

He's left handed. That speaks loudly enough.

He's left handed because he uses the same model as Link. Graphically, it's been modified quite heavily, but he's still using the same basic design, as they needed him to be able to perform the same movements and techniques as Link.

Not saying it isn't one of the other Links, just that his being left-handed isn't all that significant.

LordSothe, considering that left-handed characters are a rarity in video games, and that Link is the only one I can think of, I think it is pretty significant that the character is left-handed.

The character is referred to as the Hero's Shade, as far as I know, and I think after you learn the final skill, he refers to you as, "My child." Can someone confirm that for me? Also, he shares the same animal form as Link does, implying that they're at least similar individuals.

I think that there's a high chance that this character is a past Link/Legendary Hero/Hero of Time. I'm not sure if it's the Ocarina of Time version of Link, or maybe another incarnation of the Hero, but I do think it's a past Hero.

Link does speak, you just never see what he says.

He does in fact say, "My child, after you learn the final skill.

And LS, as already stated, his left handedness IS significant.

There is only one Legendary left handed warrior in the Zelda series, one guess as to who.

Link doesn't speak so fluently though. He says just a few words. He wouldn't learn to speak like that sitting alone as a spirit for 100 years.

what about the singing stones? they all have the sheikah eye on them. i think it was a past hero like most everyone else but can anyone explain the sheikah eye on the singing stones? that kind of threw me off.

There's pretty strong evidence in favour of him being a previous Link.

Said just before you learn the mortal draw. Note he says "our", implying he and Link are related by blood.

I accepted life as the hero

Note how he said the hero, rather than a hero.


Seems to me that he is indeed an ancestor of Link, and quite possibly the original Hero of Time.

Link never had trouble speaking, stop assuming that.

His dialogue isn't displayed because the devoloper's wanted to leave it somewhat up to imagination.
I honestly can't believe someone would imagine Link an imbecile though.

I think it probably is the Hero of Time from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Only he would know melodies like the Song of Healing and the Prelude of Light. Plus, Link may have gotten lost in the Lost Woods on his way back to Hyrule from Termina after MM and became a Stalfos like the Kokiri say you will, which would have turned him into the Hero's Shade he is in Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Red eye. Not eyes. He only has one eye. And how was he the ocarina of time? I think you mean he was the hero of time right?

Now more on topic, how do you know its OoT link? It could be any link, not just the one from OoT.

My gosh... There was another thread discussed exactly like this. Okay, for a start, The Hero's Shade is a ghost of the past. Whether it is OoT Link or someone else is perfectly up to our imagination. Heck, it could as well be OoT Link with his moves and left handed sword skills. Another thing is that he could as well be a superior Hylain Knight of the past since it does run in Link's bloodline as stated by Link's uncle in ALTTP.
