TP ending!

So, my big brother and I had this argument over whether or not Midna should have broken the mirror. He says that the ending was totally ruined by it, but I say she did the right thing, which makes it okay.

General questions: What are your opinions? Were Midna's actions justified? If she did make the right decision, does it compensate for the outcome? Did it affect your feelings about the game? Could there have been a better, alternative outcome? Please discuss!

Re: TP ending!

Considering the chaos that ensued in the events of the game, yeah I'd say it was a good move.

Re: TP ending!

The ending was totally ruined by it. I think they should have just left the game off with link smiling at midna (its right before the credits start) and left it up to the imagination of the players about what happened next.

However, you are asking a diffrent quetsion. Did midna do the right thing? Yes Did Nintendo do the right thing? Heck no!

I see what you mean. But you never know, there have been several theories about how Midna could return...And if she is able to come back, then I don't think the ending was ruined.

Re: TP ending!

It all depends on what angle you're going to look at it. In the sense that destroying the Mirror ensured her and Zelda's people's safety, I think she did the right thing. However, from an alternate angle, she gave up her obvious love for Link (I think that she loved him anyways. I think that's a pretty common theory, but I'm not sure). So, while she did good for many, she did give up her own desires. While this was very selfless of her, she did in fact do wrong to herself. Now, while many people ascribe to the "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" (myself included) it is undeniable that she did some wrong to herself. So while she may have done a greater good, she nonetheless committed a wrong. I think that her actions were very grey, and that they were meant to be that way. So I'm going to vote indifferent on this one.

Re: TP ending!

Midna did do the right thing i say, but it did dissapoint me that she destroyed the mirror, bu hopefully Nintendo will bring out a new LoZ game the continues from TP so we will just have to wait and see.

Re: TP ending!

Midna's actions destroyed the possibility of her returning without a stupid reason.

Re: TP ending!

Aside from being predictable, I thought Midna's actions were perfectly justified in terms of it's repercussions on the rest of Hyrule and the Twilight Realm. I guess it didn't effect my opinion of the ending because I had not expected Midna to stay once the game had ended.

Indeed, I felt it was the stronger half of the TP ending (the weak half being Ganondorf's "death").

Re: TP ending!

I think that Midna, as the Twilight Princess and the leader of the Twili, was trying to do the right thing by protecting her dimension and the Light World by breaking the mirror to prevent any other criminals to be banished, then use a rebel Twili as a puppet to get ahold of Hyrule. That's just my opinion.

Re: TP ending!

Yeah, I think she did the right thing. If she hadn't gone back, someone like Zant might've taken over the throne. I'm not saying that Zant might come back to take it, I'm saying that someone with the same... attitude, sort of. Like someone that would turn it evil again. She has to be there to rule, and maybe staying in the light world might've screwed things up in another way.

Re: TP ending!

I thought it was sad when she broke the Mirror, being as its the only KNOWN link between Twilight and Hyrule. I think though, Nintendo has left it on a bit of a cliffhanger, where was Link riding out to at the end, why was Ilia waving him off, what was said? You know, thats for fans to think about, until theres an explanation.

People in this country want resolution, they dont like endings of games, tv shows etc to be ambigious.

I think it would have been better if Ganon had actualy killed Midna but I guess thats a bit cliche.

Anyway yes she did the right thing by destroying the mirror.

Re: TP ending!

Putting the needs of the many over the needs of the few is more often than not a good thing. She wanted to end the devistation caused by the mirror, even though it might separate her from Link and Zelda forever.

Re: TP ending!

Everyone saw what happened when the Twilight world was open to Hyrule yes? Noticed the devastating effects that almost brought Hyrule's life to an end yes? She may have liked Link in a way that we could call it romantic, but she did it for the world. Her own world was destroying her friends world who helped her get back everything she lost and to once again be claimed as the Princess of Twilight. Sure she wanted to do something to repay Link, only to save the world to which he belongs and it meant to put a permanent end in seeing each other ever again.

I found the ending very nice and with deep meanings. Link was hurt, but they both knew that it was for the best for their own worlds.

Re: TP ending!

I belive she did the right thing. If she never broke the mirror then the adventure would start all over agian. So, it was the best thing. For Hyrule.
