Actually I was a kid then and I did need the guide but instead I bought a Miniguide that was included in a Magazine. I think it was a gameinformer mag.

Re: Strategy Guide Buyers

I agree with Sage_of_Stars about using money to buy strategy guides when you could instead by Zelda games. However, sometimes a zelda game gets hard enough that the purchase of a strategy guide is justified, even if free, online ones are available. Although, like I said before, strategy guides that cost too much just aren't worth it.

Well, borrowed a really good swedish-translated guide for Zelda: OOT from my dad's friend at work. I didn't need it much, though.
A thing that I thought was really cool with the guide, was that in the end of the guide, it was descriptions of how you for example could play the kakariko village theme song on the ocarina.

I don't buy guides, I use internet guides. I only use them for when I want a 100%, though.

I never use guides for important parts of the game, like major dungeons and puzzles. I only use them because I'm a completionist and want to always get everything from all the sidequests.

I'vew got the Twilight Princess one, but not for the guide I bought it for the poster, so I guess the guide was a bonus.

I've got 0. I don't need them, so I would only buy them for my collection and then I want all of them...but the guide-collection is SO big, that it would be a neverending story ...

Re: Strategy Guide Buyers

I have two, and both were gifts, from the same person, with the game when they gave it to me. Interesting pattern.

Oh, they're for OoT and MM, both the Nintendo Power one.

Re: Strategy Guide Buyers

I have the Nintendo Power guides for OoT, MM, LA, OoS/OoA, and TWW. I got the Prima guide for TP, since it seemed much more lovingly crafted than the dry NP one. I get the guides for the sake of the artwork, and for screenshots of interesting parts of the game. The LA guide had a lot of nice artwork I hadn't seen before. I also like the big maps of the 2D worlds, and info that might shed further light on the game worlds. The OoT guide provided tons of backstory for the game, and regardless of how canon it was, I ate it all up when I was younger. The MM guide pointed out a bunch of cool secrets in the game. I occasionally use the guides for help with collection tasks in the games, but mostly I just like to flip through the pages and lose myself in the nostalgia.

Re: Strategy Guide Buyers

I haven't bought strategy guides for The Legend of Zelda before. At least, none I can recall.

I just use internet guides most of the time.

Yea I agree I like the artwork in a Strategy guide. I got mine for free but I always loved the artwork and thats why I keep mine otherwise I would sell them to someone who needs it.

FSA and TP
FSA because it came with the pre-order, and TP because I wanted to make sure to beat it completely.

Re: Strategy Guide Buyers

Internet guides are pretty usefull for me. Although, its always annoying to run to the computer all the time when I get stuck at some point in the game. I realize I could print off parts of it or the whole thing, but I'd rather not waste paper.

Re: Strategy Guide Buyers

i was so excited about this "new Ocarina of Time" game,
and i hadn't played any zelda before, that i was like "omg! this game looks amazing!"
that i bought the guide for it. i think i still have it, all these years later.
i just bought it because i wanted everything to do with this new amazing game.
also i didn't expect it to be as big and item-related as it was,
so it helped with different things since OoT was my first zelda.

EDIT: ^^^ AnTon, what is that? a leak of the new ZU skin??

Re: Strategy Guide Buyers

My uncle gave me guide for WW. It also has an extra bonus though; a walkthrough for OoT. Plus I also bought one for TP (it was a limited time thing; there was a hardcover and paperback cover...). I needed the one for TP because I was stuck on a boss and I wanted to find more heartpieces.

Edit: I also used an internet guide for MC on the parts I was stuck with.

Re: Strategy Guide Buyers

My first guide was for OoT - it was my first Zelda and the shop had a special deal to buy the guide at half price when you purchased the game. Then I fell in love with the beautiful pictures, particularly of the different characters, and have bought the guides for all the games since.

Re: Strategy Guide Buyers

I mostly just use online guides if I've been stuck in the same place for an hour, but I do own the guide for OoT. I've owned it since I was little (I didn't really use the internet back then), and believe me, it's been used well. The pages are all coming out so I usually have a hard time even using it.
Anyway, I do wish I had guides for the other games. They're a lot of fun to look through. Good for nostalgic times too.

I was incredibly tempted to purchase Prima's Limited Edition Twilight Princess strategy guide. I figured it wasn't worth the setback of $30 (USD).
^I got both of those mentioned guides. Plus one for ALttP/FS even though I don't own a copy of it.
