Small disappointment with Epona

"Hurry up and transform to your true self, Link."

That's all she ever says. I was hoping that she might go on little trips through Hyrule Field, and be able to tell me things.

"I found this nice place around _____ landmark that I'd like to take you to." or something, and you'd find chests with rupees or heart pieces.

You know, they could have done more with a main character like her in a game where you're able to talk to animals.

You're right. The interactiveness with animals was not that big. There were to few animals.

Re: Small disappointment with Epona

They could have done way more with the animal interactiveness. More animals would have been nice (apart from all those cats in castle town.....) for example different horses and more dogs. Something like that. Also like you said Epona could have said more than that.

I was disappointed by her one and only line too but never really thought that she could have been helpful with the quest. Now I'm more disappointed.

Yeah thinking that does make you more depressed. I never thought of that either. It's a shame they did so poorly with it.

Lol, I agree with you that the interaction with animals wasn't great, but then again, when the world is in peril, and at the brink of destruction, why would your "Animal companion", show you treasure hot-spots? Pretty sure she is concerned with living her life too.

Re: Small disappointment with Epona

I suppose your right really. Your companion would worry more about the world in danger than treasure. So i guess they did good for the state of danger they're in.

it wouldn't make sense to go collect bugs or play some weird star game if the world was in peril either, but that's in there too. It wasn't a plot decision, the tp developers are just lazy.

Re: Small disappointment with Epona

Epona actually had two lines. One was just only said once. Anyway, Epona did grow to know human Link, and she might feel useless if Link stays a fast wolf. Horses are proud animals after all.

Re: Small disappointment with Epona

I wasn't too bothered about the few lines Epona had, mainly because we actually got to use her in battles, and she meant more to the game rather than a mode of transport.

Though I agree the interaction with animals was small in this game, but wolf Link was used for many other things, like his senses with the scents and fighting poes. It seemed that the animal interaction was just simply for hints or a bit of comedy?

Maybe it will be worked upon in later games, if we have Link transforming into an animal again that is.

What better life can a horse have than running around the field, and talking about her territory? Main characters should have more lines. I wasn't as bothered about the other animals because they were probably around for hints. I don't think there are any animals that must be talked to in order to progress the game. Except for the squirrel that starts to thank you.

He says "Hey! Wait! Thank you." I don't know if he asks for help if you skip the enemies in front of your house, though.

I never even spoke to Epona in wolf form, but it sounds like she's very boring.

I hardly think you can call the people who developed such an elaborate and beautiful game "lazy"..

You never even thought about it? God, I couldn't wait for the first opportunity to talk to her as a wolf.

Re: Small disappointment with Epona

While the talking to animals was a nice little quirky addition, what was it *actually* used for...? The only animal with a bit of sense is the rooster in Ordon Village, and there's one dog in Castle Town that is just a total simpleton... The one that goes "I like... to pick things up!", total wreck-the-head...

Heh, well, no, it never really crossed my mind. I talked to all the other little animals, like cats and such, but not Epona. I guess I'll see how boring it is sometime.

Same here, and all I got was that stone cold line about turning back into a human... So much for the horse who loves her master more than Ilia...

Well, were lucky the animlas even said anything in the first place. Most of the actual people you talked to never even say all that much, like towners of Castle Town. So what do you expect from animals?

As a main character, she needed more lines. That's the big difference between Epona and the other animals/towners.

If they are going to give the animals the ability to speak, and make your horse an integral part of the game, they need to give her more lines. And more personality. That's what main characters are supposed to have.

Re: Small disappointment with Epona

Exactly.

When I first spoke to Epona, I thought, "Great! Now I can get to see the horse's point of view regarding the adventure! She must have a lot to say, I know I would if I was a horse and I could communicate with my master..."

When I did speak to her, I thought, "That's it?" She's quite an important character. And yet she just said the same thing over and over again. She could have had some humorous lines.
