Specific races of animals TP's "Guardians"?

Very recently, some new artwork has been released by Nintendo:

One of these new releases of artwork is the ghostly-whitish creature we saw in the E3 2006 trailer. (it's the fifth one down in the second row of shots)

In artwork gallery 2 of that same page is artwork of Link patting the same type of rounded horn as that creature (the artwork that is the first of the second row.)

Though the bodies have only small simularities, the goat-thing and the ghostly creature both have a single rounded horn.

With that said, I have been pondering what the guardians are for this game. Lately every game has Sages or some sort of guardian that makes the darkness recede. Perhaps that ghostly creature is one of the guardians of the game that Link must save.

It would make sense, wouldn't it? After all, TP is supposed to have connections to animals, and This would certainly connect to the story line. Perhaps the guardians are specific animal races that only exist in certain areas (like Link's village has goat-things, maybe the Gorons have rock snakes... that sort of thing).

Any reasons that this wouldn't work?

I wanna know where most of the pics from that first gallery came from. I've never seen some of those before. :O
Anyways, I think it's a interesting idea. I figure each dungeon will have a seperate animal you have to use to help beat the dungeon. Then you get seperate songs to call each animal to your aid. I think we saw that with the hawk in the trailers and last year's demo.

I don't know about calling the creatures to your aid... it just doesn't sound right to me. I figure you might possibly get some item that the creatures "bestow their powers upon", but other than that...

I just don't expect you to call on the animals.

As for the artwork: it was just released, and the link I gave is Nintendo's Zelda site, where it was first noticed.

I was thinking that that white animal thing was some sort of spirit or guardian.
