I like the Ancient Cistern

Do you like the Ancient Cistern as well? For me it its relative change from the Lanayru climate. I'm feeling the Buddha vibes and the bigger meaning of the dungeon , its constructed with levels going up like the said " steps of enlightment" , the game references also that the bottom is where the impurities are among some other stuff , which they are in form of monsters as we fight our way up. And the boss? Dha LLuohma? This was a big positive pleasant suprise with its hardnest ( comparing to previous bosses ) and design which I like very much also.

Maybe someone like a different temple more? Speak up!

Re: I like the Ancient Cistern

I did.

First, I liked the atmosphere. It could loosely be classified as a water dungeon, but it was very different from the other water dungeons in Zelda. You had the Buddha vibe, which fit in with Skyward Sword's decidedly more eastern aesthetic. The music felt very "clean" to me, for lack of a better word. For some reason, it made me think of the bathhouse in Spirited Away.

One thing that I appreciated more during my third play-through than the first two was how well the dungeon flows. I could have given you better specifics as to what I mean by this a couple of days ago when I finished it, but I thought it was one of the best constructed dungeons we've seen. Great pacing.

Of course, the under-world area offered a stark contrast with the rest of the dungeon. I would have rather had Re-Deads than Zombie Bokoblins, but it works. I thought the way the central column operated was simple but clever.

Interesting dungeon. And certainly the boss battle was a fan favorite too.

Re: I like the Ancient Cistern

Playing through it a second time, it was still cool, but I didn't like it as much. I feel the 3rd, 5th, and 6th dungeons are better.

Re: I like the Ancient Cistern

Other Water themed dungeons in the series laughs at it when it comes to complexity, but props for its boss.

I'm wondering why its mini-boss didn't make more appearances. That was a great battle.

Re: I like the Ancient Cistern

I liked it. The mix of the water temple and a touch of the shadow temple. Not to mention, the boss was probably my favorite temple boss of the game.

Re: I like the Ancient Cistern

It's my favorite dungeon in the game. I loved the design and the contrast between the upper and lower levels and it had one of my favorite boss fights.

I liked the having to swim to solve stuff, because it was kind of fun. I also liked the styling of the main room. Excellent!

The Ancient Cistern is easily one of my favorite Dungeons in Zelda generally.

Re: I like the Ancient Cistern

Ancient Cistern was beautiful. I totally love what you're saying about the Buddhist theme, it all makes sense. It makes a nice change from the regular Water Temples which are always located in Lake Hylia, where everything's made from coral and it's dedicated to the Zora. Definitely one of my favourite dungeons in the game.

Re: I like the Ancient Cistern

It was definitely a fun dungeon. Certainly one of the most memorable.
...but did we seriously have to look at a statue's butt in order to progress?

Re: I like the Ancient Cistern

"Carved into the great statue are inscriptions of gratitude. They reveal the secret order of this temple."
"First the back, then the rear, then the back of the right hand, and finally the back of the left hand."
It gives you the combination to open those locks with your sword, and the "rear" turns out to quite literally be the statue's rear.

Re: I like the Ancient Cistern

The Ancient Cistern was great. I liked the music and the way it changed when you fall down to the underground area. The zombie bokoblins were screwy the way they come after Link. They don't die very easily! The two red birds flying around were majestic, even though I had to kill them. The whole temple was awesome.
One of the best parts of the dungeon, aside from the boss, was when Link starts to climb that rope and the zombie bokoblins climb after him. I thought that was really fun.

Re: I like the Ancient Cistern

Yes, and I think many people do. I bet it's because it's one of, if not the, most unique dungeon in SS. There's an entire dark side to it that you must venture to that reminded me of the Dreamland level in Rayman 2 (I don't think that's what the level was called, but w/e). The boss was very fun too, as was the miniboss. The music was great, too. I might replay SS just for this dungeon; easily in my top 5 Zelda dungeons.

Re: I like the Ancient Cistern

I liked the Ancient Cistern. It was a nice change of scenery, and a breath of fresh air for me. Or water in this case. This and the Fire Sanctuary were my favorites. I really didn't like Lanayru Mining Facility, for whatever reason.
