You mean it isn't one of
your top 5 Zelda games. Personally, I think Skyward Sword is worthy of being in
my top 5 list, but that's just me. It doesn't mean I present my
opinion as fact, though.
Anyway, here's my opinion:
Controls: Tie. I love
SS's motion control for swordplay, but
OoT's controls were also innovative and revolutionary for its time (Z-targeting, context-sensitive A button, etc.). I don't think this is really a fair comparison, and I think both do the job equally well, but in different ways. I know some people on here hate the motion control, but honestly, I think it worked very well, and it was great to be able to be in control of Link's sword's direction. Other motion controls, such as throwing and rolling bombs, were also a welcome addition.
Bosses: Ocarina of Time. I loved most of Skyward Sword's bosses, and some of them were truly epic. However, I still think Ocarina of Time has some of the best bosses out of any 3D Zelda. Gohma, King Dodongo, Phantom Ganon, Volvagia, Bongo Bongo, and Twinrova come to mind.
Gear: Skyward Sword. You didn't have as many items, but the ones you did have were put to good use. The optional upgrades also had more depth this time around; for example, instead of just getting a bigger quiver, you could upgrade the bow itself. So for the Beetle, aside from getting the claw attachment, you could give it more speed and stamina. Speaking of the Beetle, it was my favorite new item; not only could it perform many useful functions, such as hitting switches and picking up and dropping bombs, but it could also be used for scouting areas that are just out of reach. The only mostly-useless item was the Slingshot, but at least we got good use out of it before acquiring the bow. I'd rather have a smaller arsenal and use all or most of the items frequently instead of having a large arsenal and barely using anything other than a few items. Ocarina of Time hardly made use of the Deku Nuts, and the Ice Arrows were a rip-off.
Story: Skyward Sword. Skyward Sword's story was much more detailed and had characters that made a larger, more direct impact (plus, they all had names). It also explained a lot of the series' origins, such as why Link dons the iconic green tunic and floppy hat. In Ocarina of Time, you were saving Zelda for the sake of good prevailing over evil. In Skyward Sword, you save Zelda because you
love her. I felt genuinely angry when
Impa insulted your abilities and said to let her words sting. I was truly sad when
Zelda had to go to sleep for a while in the crystal. I was happy and amused when
Groose shed his selfish ways to become an indispensable ally. There was so much more depth in it without being overly-complex. Ocarina of Time had its emotional moments, but it had less of them.
