Midna's concept artwork, Nintendo why D:

Seeing the concept artwork of Midna, I'm super dissapointed for the one they used in the final version. Her imp form is actually okay but I always felt her true form never fitted with her imp form and the other twili's. Well apparently the concepts they had for her true form look so much more twili and I especially love the one which looks mostly like a true form for her imp form.

Very interesting! Some of Midna's design were very strange...

Here are some other scans of other characters. These are really exciting to look at! I really like the concept art for TP's Link. He looks less anime-ish.

Re: Midna's concept artwork, Nintendo why D:

It took a ♥♥♥♥ing eternity to load that PDF you linked to so here's some image links.

Link

Midna

I find the imp form prototypes a lot more interesting. Midna went through some pretty ♥♥♥♥ed up prototype stages and, honestly, a more monstrous imp form would have REALLY helped with the feel of her development. The one she ended up with seems too cute (if oddly sexualized for the toddler-like proportions) and in the beginning it seemed like they were trying to make her seem threatening, which didn't work, and she was afraid to let her people see her in imp form so it should be ugly in addition to somewhat monstrous.

Also, almost every other image for Link (in the Hero's Clothes) looks better than the one they ended up with. Older looks striking and fits the feel of the game, younger fits his personality better, LttP style would have been a cool throwback, and the Japanese one with the heavy shading looks way cool. Better to go full Japanese facially than white with some light hints of Japanese that you can feel but not really put your finger on, like they ended up with.

And a low-poly black wolf form would have better fit the Twili magic aesthetic.

THANK GOD they didn't go with that third Zora Armor but we missed out not getting that glowy one.

Re: Midna's concept artwork, Nintendo why D:

Yeah Nintendo really played it save with her design. I love the first version of her true form and the second one. The third one is so 'meh' and uninspiring, I always felt it really lacked compared to Zant and the other Twili.

The first one she really looks like she's the princess of the Twilight realm.

I really like the design with the imp form wearing a skull mask and having her hair in a braid. It looks really tribal and cool!

It's really awesome to finally see some more Twilight Princess concept art though, I really hope that Zant and Ganondorf's art will be included as well!

Wooow...That really is awesome. It really looks like the had a lot of fun making a character like Midna. I feel like she'd fit well into a Pixar/Disney movie or something.

Yay, concept art got me a new avatar!

There's something oddly fascinating about the second concept art of Midna's true form... puts her on the same craziness level as Zant.

That's freakin' awesome. While I prefer the design that they ultimately went with, it's very exciting to see where the team had started with Midna. I find it very interesting that they ultimately abandoned that kind of "tribal" motif, considering that it permeated most of those earlier designs.

I like Midna's final art better. I think the beta art is ugly. (It even made me think she was originally going to be an antagonist!)

I actually like how they thought about making her look more... monstrous. In particular, the two boxes on the lower right look pretty cool. Especially the one where she looks more like the other cursed Twili. The one with red skin looks TONS more impish- that would've been interesting to see, albeit with a darker skin tone.

I actually like the final designs best. The older ideas weren't as good. I also like the true form for Midna in the final game the best of the three. Certainly the most attractive, revealing, hot, and humanlike.

I agree as well.

The earlier concepts of her look extremely... weird. :/ I'm not sure if I would have liked seeing those "looks" if they made it to the final stages of rendering her into the game.

They would work towards enemies, but not as the Princess in imp form imo.

I like Midna's final artwork the most. I think the art designers made a good choice.

As for Link, I really liked the top-left one on the right half of the page. I enjoy anime, but it's nice to see different renditions of characters.

THat's exactly what's wrong with it. Attractive and humanlike. She's not a human. The rest of her people look quite alien, meaning she's all hideously deformed. Her looking human is like a human looking brutish and ape-like.

Zant looks pretty human to me. The very few twili that we did see all looked... blobby. None of the concept art for Midna shows her with that 'blobby' figure which I'm kinda glad because the twili did look rather silly.

I really like this concept art for Link. I much prefer the younger Links as well

Re: Midna's concept artwork, Nintendo why D:

The other concepts for Midna are very interesting, though some of them look like generic monsters. The alternate true form is pretty cool as well, and while I'm fine with the final, this unused one looks more like a Twili, compared to the final looking like a normal person with blue skin.

The alternate Link designs are neat too, cool to see that they played around a bit with changing his look, before settling on a look that more resembled OoT artwork and was carried through into SS. Hopefully they'll go through with that sort of thing at some point in the future, since I enjoy seeing different takes on the characters.

I like the one wearing a giant skull mask and a blue & orange ponytail, it bears a strong resemblance to Skull Kid, and many similarities between the two have already been found. Then again, I'm already happy with Midna's final design.
