Here's something I don't understand with the "I want realistic graphics" camp: the more "realistic" the graphics get, the less "in the game" I feel because I'm noticing all the things that look "off" and not realistic about them. The "Uncanny Valley" effect. Whereas a game with a more artistic style is less distracting because it's not pretending to be realistic in the first place.
Besides, I've been playing Zelda since
LoZ and NONE of the game until
TP were trying to be realistic.
OoT was NOT realistic by any means. In fact,
OoT/
MM graphics already look extremely dated. And I suspect that in a few more years
TP's graphics will look dated by whatever "realistic" standards we have then to judge them against. Wind Waker graphics, on the other other hand, still look gorgeous all these years later. And I suspect
SS graphics will age just as nicely.
Yes, I understand that a lot of people out there like "realistic graphics" but this is something Zelda has never tried doing until
TP.
Besides, there's something about
SS's color palette and style that reminds me a LOT of
AoL and
ALttP instruction manual art. And I like that.
