Re: Skyward Sword Graphics

The graphics are great. I think a lot more people would like them if it were young Link instead of adult though. It's strange seeing a regular adult in such a vividly colored game and I think that throws people off.

Plus the fact that Link looks copied and pasted from TP. There are some minor differences, but they could have done a lot more with his design.

And I realize that OoT had a varied pallet, but I feel like all the adult temples were so well done because they used darker, subdued tones. Specifically, I'm thinking of the greeens and greys of the Forest Temple and the browns and reds of the spirit temple. Nothing there looked reminiscent of a 9 A.M. Anime.

Everyone hating on the enemies of SS, claiming that, just coz ONE enemy looked bad that they all will, look at this post.

Heck, the Deku Babas looked badass-er than normal.

Re: Skyward Sword Graphics

I thought most of the enemies seen looked pretty good, the Mokoblins or whatever do look a bit what the..? but I think every zelda has had an enemy or two in it that's looked pretty stupid. That is what you get when you have a large design team work on a project, you get different designs some will naturally be better than others, there's bound to be a good lot of enemies in this game, it's impossible to pan it just on the mokblins

Re: Skyward Sword Graphics

Here's something I don't understand with the "I want realistic graphics" camp: the more "realistic" the graphics get, the less "in the game" I feel because I'm noticing all the things that look "off" and not realistic about them. The "Uncanny Valley" effect. Whereas a game with a more artistic style is less distracting because it's not pretending to be realistic in the first place.

Besides, I've been playing Zelda since LoZ and NONE of the game until TP were trying to be realistic. OoT was NOT realistic by any means. In fact, OoT/MM graphics already look extremely dated. And I suspect that in a few more years TP's graphics will look dated by whatever "realistic" standards we have then to judge them against. Wind Waker graphics, on the other other hand, still look gorgeous all these years later. And I suspect SS graphics will age just as nicely.

Yes, I understand that a lot of people out there like "realistic graphics" but this is something Zelda has never tried doing until TP.

Besides, there's something about SS's color palette and style that reminds me a LOT of AoL and ALttP instruction manual art. And I like that.

Re: Skyward Sword Graphics

I don't know if TP was really what i'd call realistic, but it was more in that direction than what zelda had done before. I think its good for them to change and reinvent the look each time, we sure have to wait long enough for each installment.
the change is welcome to me, I look forward to seeing whats new and different each time. It's one of few series I feel confident in knowing the game itself will be good.

Re: Skyward Sword Graphics

TP was the most realistic in the series. SS is still realistic to some sense. Link still looks fairly realistic. It is just less realistic than TP.

I really like all styles of Zelda games.

Yeah, but the fact that the Deku Babas are looking so bright and colorful in SS just makes them even MORE badass. Think about it- someone who didn't know any better could walk up to one, thinking it's a pretty flower and then CHOMP!!

Re: Skyward Sword Graphics

I like the Deku Babas in the demo. They look extra slimey in their tongues.
I am interested in how other enemies are done in this style.

Re: Skyward Sword Graphics

The new art is great, but I read sometime ago(if I remember correctly) that they were studyng Monster hunter tri graphics in order to "make it" for zelda, and when I saw E3 show it was a little disappointment.
Now I think that this impressionism art should be more "exaggerated" in order to make the difference from Celshaded more obvious, now the line is very very blur, you have to look almost very carefully to notice it.
I guess big part of this graphics complains are because the first presentation of Zelda to the public... no intro just Link waving the sword and some clouds and then the bad interference with the wiimote , if they made something like TP presentation another history could be now.

Cheers
JC

the "realistic" graphics is something that wasnt available to them untill TP. thats why TP is the most realistic out of the bunch. OOT and MM had system limits of the N64 to think about. it happens with any game, the newer the generation the better the graphics will get.

Re: Skyward Sword Graphics

I like the graphics being used for Skyward Sword: it's simple and colorful. They're trying to get a "moving painting" feel with the whole thing, and I think they succeeded on that. A change from the Twilight Princess art-style, sure, but this game isn't trying to be TP. It's trying to be something new, and I commend the Zelda team for that.

Re: Skyward Sword Graphics

I have to admit, that image above my comment looks really good. I'm starting to not mind the style now, but I still would've preferred more realistic graphics. The waterfall looks really nice and idyllic, and when they're finished polishing the textures, it will look better. My only concern is the trees we've seen so far and the Bokoblins. They look terrible.

Re: Skyward Sword Graphics

The art style in game seems like an excuse not to make ultra good graphics that break my wii, lol
The picture looks bad but its just a screen shot, and im pretty sure it looked better on the trailer, next zelda better have relistic graphics though, or this one better be ultra good

Re: Skyward Sword Graphics

The style of SS seems like Nintendo's trying to incorporate WW and TP graphics to appease the younger and older crowds. Personally, I don't have a problem with that. As long as the game has an awesome, well-thought storyline, I'm good.

Re: Skyward Sword Graphics

to be fair, i think the water fall is background only, meaning you can't do a zora dive into it because it is not even accessible. Still though, the quality of design is N64 at best.

Well really, the demo shows the most epic Zora dive there could possibly be.

N64 quality, DESIGN?

LOLWUT?
