Upgradeable Armour and Weapons

As many have said, there was little incentive to go plunging into caves and mini dungeons in Twilight Princess, as the reward was usually an orange rupee, or a heart piece if you were lucky. Likewise, there was little needs for sidequests. Many also complained about the difficulty being to easy.

Anyway, I think that upgradeable armour and perhaps weapons are the way to go. It should be optional, but would make the game easier. For example, after a few dungeons, enemies would start dealing higher damage, until a few hits would kill you. Link to the past had the Red Mail and the Blue Mail.

Armour should be found in mini dungeons and caves , or obtained from sidequests. Link should be able to wear light armour under his tunic. For example, you might start off with nothing, then upgrade to chain mail, then Hylian Mail and so on. There should also be some form of heavy armour which would make link extremely slow but suitable for horseback combat.

Link should also be able to temper his sword, á la link to the past. There should be other swords available, such as Biggoron's sword, and mabye some others, such as a zora sword that deals ice damage, but is only effective against certain enemies. You should also be able to obtain enchantments from certain quests, such as perhaps an enchantment which makes the sword more effective against armoured foes, like darknuts.

Anyway, these are just my ideas.

The enchantments were already done and tried, they were the rings in the Oracle games that never made an appearance yet:/

However I do like this idea of upgradable armor and weapons, makes the game more interesting. However this is moving the Zelda games to more of an RPG feel. Which isn't a bad thing for me since I like them. But there will be those people that don't want that to happen.

Re: Upgradeable Armour and Weapons

I spoke about armor and it's potential in Zelda in this paper, as well as a few other things.

I do think armor is a good idea, but I think there should be more mechanics behind it than just 'reduce damage'.

Re: Upgradeable Armour and Weapons

I have always looked forward to the sidequests and caves in the zelda games. But I was dissapointed by those of Twilight Princess... I really like your Idea of upgradeable weapons and armor. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only un-required upgrade in TP was the STAR game for the larger quiver. And the only prizes in the caves were orange rubies that most of the time I couldn't carry. Anyway I would love to see some more purely optional sidequest that would help with the game. I had never thought of giving Link armor but as long as Link doesn't end up looking like the magic armor in TP, I'm all for it.

Two Bomb Bag size upgrades, two whole Bomb Bags, Bomblings, Wooden and Hylian shields, the Hawkeye, the two wallet upgrades, and the Magic Armor.

I believe there is only one bomb bag size upgrade, but that is besides the point.

Right on. Biggoron Sword, Tempered Sword, even Fierce Deity Mask, are all examples of special extra stuff you can do with your weapons.

It'd be cool if one day Link could also have some kind of metal material on his tunic. Similar to a knight. Isnt he a descendant of the Knights of Hyrule?

Tbh, if you count FD mask as an "extra" weapon, that isnt required, its what got me playing the game. There is a special place in people's hearts of tempering the items with which you kick demon ass with.

Yes, more side-quests would be good. At least side-quests with more varied rewards. I can honestly say I never once used a Bombling and I was never in danger of running out of bombs or arrows (or especially rupees except for buying the Magic Armor which I proceeded to only use to get rid of excess rupees so that I could open a chest that had rupees in it).

Seriously, if the next game has the same "you can't take these rupees with you" deal it should at least let you mark your map with a little "here there be rupees" or something. I got so sick of having a full wallet in dungeons and not being able to keep track of which chests I'd already opened.

Re: Upgradeable Armour and Weapons

i did think there was alot of very un-necessary items and stuff in tp such as the magic armour and bomblings as mentioned previously also the rupees felt very pointless as there was nothingreally necessary to buy after the magic armour as you find bombs and arrows out in the field anyways the idea of having upgradeable armour and weapons is a great one some ideas for weapons would be maybe having a spell cast on you're sword such as a fire spell or electric spell or perhaps having different swords which you can use in a sort of fable esque way except not as much choices becuase the amount of weapons in fable was actually quiet overwhelming anyways on to armour i could'nt really see link wearing a full suit of armour but maybe some chainmail and maybe some kind of small metal pads such as elbow shoulder and wrist pads also i would like the gauntlet system from Oot to return because i thought it was really creative plus the gloves look badass anyways those are my suggestions tell me what you think

Hmm. I think that full armour could be present in the game, but would encumber Link to the point of it being useless. It could be used on horseback, perhaps, which could allow for a massive mounted battle

But yeah, I would like to see the gauntlets return, but with more variations e.g. gauntlets of strength, gauntlets of fire etc.

I also liked the spirits in PH, which allowed you to power up your sword and shield. I would like to see a return of something similar, but more in-depth.
