Futuristic Zelda - Why so against it?

Okay, what I want to know is what people have against Zelda being set in the future. I mean, I know that Hyrule has always been set in the middle ages and I know people are comfortable with swords and think replacing it with a laser sword would be a little much...

But come on! It could work! Do you know why? There is more than one Link and more than one Zelda! It is not unreasonable to assume that one day, maybe, a Link and Zelda would be born in the future with space ships!

The change would bring tons of new content into the mix, which means more game-play. Stale mechanics would have life breathed into them.

What makes Zelda what it is is it's unique story elements (and rolling and l-targeting): Mainly the Triforce, Link and Zelda and Gannondorf (mostly Link), and I think it's time the fandom realized that!

...feels good to get things off of my chest.

I honestly think this might be hard to pull off, but would be SO AWESOME if they did.

I don't know about anything cheesy like spaceships or anything, but I'd be open to a Zelda taking place in a different timeline, whichever they may choose.

I'm not really against it, but Hyrule's future technology should be much different from ours if they decide to go through with it. Perhaps Magic based technology as opposed to electricity.

Well, I was just saying 'space ships' because it helps enforce my point. Space-ships may or may not be cheesy...though one might make a good dungeon.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Like have the Triforce of Power power everything, but then that get's stolen so we rely on faries instead.

I'd be more interested to see a Zelda in a modern time before we talk about futuristic themes...

Well, yeah. I would be interested to see how a Zelda game would play out in a world like ours. Instead of set into the far future where most of the technology is made up.

Re: Futuristic Zelda - Why so against it?

Wow. That just gave me an idea in which Link, Zelda and Ganon wind up in New York City and Ganon tries to find them, using his Triforce of Power to destroy everything along the way. Zelda uses her Triforce of Wisdom to look like a city girl and Link gets thrown in jail for "disturbing the peace" just by unsheathing his sword.

Avoiding stuff like this and putting faith in story developers, it could work.

If I want to be a space marine, I'm going to play Halo.

Re: Futuristic Zelda - Why so against it?

When I thin in a "Futuristic Zelda", a metroid-like feeling assaults me.

imagine a dungeon or a town designed like the Chozo Ruins of Metroid Prime 1 or the futuristic city ( I can't remember its name) of MP3.

And about a Zelda in our days, I can perfectly imagine Link in jeans or something

Re: Futuristic Zelda - Why so against it?

Why can't you just make another series that plays like Zelda in the future? Why do you have to turn a series that was meant to be a middle ages fantasy world into a futuristic star wars clone?

Link wears khakis, Glas. And an over-sized green polo shirt atop a white thermal. Driving gloves.

I've thought about this...

Meant for? What it's meant for is getting boring. But I also want a game with intelligence in it's design (ergo, why I simply don't go play Halo). Zelda has serious intelligence in it's design, and non of the main story elements (mainly the Triforce, Link, Zelda, Gannondorf) would remain.

EDIT:

Why? It's getting stale imo, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Re: Futuristic Zelda - Why so against it?

Future Zelda - Futuristic Zelda. How Ironic.

Well, I personally am against it, but that's just a matter of personal preference. I have no argument against it if the gameplay is original and engaging. I guess I like the legends and mythologies of the past more than the future.

But why do we even need a new setting? "It's getting stale hurrdurr".
Yeah, because we NEED to futurize Zelda to un-stale it.

Getting stale, yes. But changing the setting wouldn't automatically "unstale" it.

It's the actual formula (get three artifacts, then master sword, get more artifacts etc) that's getting a bit old combined with the lack of difficulty and "item inflation". There's just too much money and too many hearts in the newer games.

Anyway, I'm all for changing the setting to something more futuristic. As long as we're not talking about the space age. Do you really want to see the Intergalactic Kingdom of Hyrule, the Black Hole of Hylia, Epona the Starcruiser and Ganon the Supreme Commander of the Space Gerudos?

Metroid is doing a good job at covering the space age on its own and it's basically Zelda in a futuristic setting, so I suggest you play that if you want some space age action.
