Legend of Zelda: The Rod of Chaos

Legends speak of a time, long ago, when the world was young and fiery, when the great creatures of legend roamed the earth, two great Rods were forged. The first was the Rod of Chaos. It's dark powers brought ruin to the earth, and in response the second rod was forged. A great hero arose and used the powers of the Rod of Order to battle the wielder of the Rod of Chaos. The hero and his mortal enemy were locked in battle for days, and after a full fortnight had passed, the great evil was smote, and the Rod of Chaos shattered into eight pieces, each placed in the care of one of the most powerful beings of the time. The Rod of Order was hidden, and peace reigned for centuries, until . . .

One day, black clouds rolled in over the sea, and a great heaviness fell on the hearts of all who dwelt on the sea. Then a sorcerer came. He called himself Vaati, and he took the guadians of the Chaos Fragments by storm, defeating them and corrupting them, reassembling the anicient evil in the process. He then broke the Rod of Order, as his own rod had been once, and placed it in the care of the corrupted guardians. Then he vanished as quickly as he had struck.

Rod of Chaos opening cutscene

(Preceding intro plays over WW opening-style tapestry)

(Wide shot of large castle on island)

(Cut to castle interior, grandoise throne room)

Vaati, in form similar to MC human form, teleports into room. Guards and Zelda (on throne) gasp in shock.Vaati holds up rod with writhing tentacles on each end. Purple lightning bombards guards. Fade to white

Fade back from white. No guards.

Zelda: What have you done with my honor guard?

Vaati: Not to worry, my princess. (Aims Rod at her, energy ball builds on end) you will not be sharing their . . . unfortunate fate

(energy ball launches at her and engulfs her. It vanishes in the blink of an eye. No Princess)

Vaati: I wonder where she went. No matter. (Approaches throne)

Cut to: Wide shot of island with bustling town.
Cut to: Small hut with thatched roof. Offscreen flash, princess crashes through roof of hut. older woman runs toward hut, surprised.

Cut to: Forest Island with small village on shore.
Cut to: Link, about 17, examining a large hole in a small fishing boat. Link stands up and looks and officious looking man, the Mayor of Florana Village.

Mayor: Is it bad?

(Link nods)

(Mayor forrows his brow, hails nearby Rito postman)

Mayor: Nepp!

Nepp: Yessir Mister Mayor Sir?

Mayor: I want you to go find a boat, any boat, that can get us to Kakariko Island before the Gathering of the Sea starts. Our only boat is wrecked.

Nepp: Yessir! I do happen to know that the pirate captain James is in the area, and he usually will help out those who need help. (aside) Some pirate! (Flies off)

Mayor: Link, please go to my house and retrieve the stock of shields we will be trading at the Gathering.

(Link nods annd cutscene ends.)

Re: Legend of Zelda: The Rod of Chaos

I think this is the best idea for a Zelda game to be posted for a long time. Pretty good plot idea; Vaati sounds like a good villain (wait, was he the one who held the Rod of Chaos?) So how would Link finally confront him? Any good plot twists planned? (don't tell 'em yet, though) Any new races or items?

Post more!

EDIT: So is this like a potential Wind Waker 3, but in a different part of the Great Ocean?

Re: Legend of Zelda: The Rod of Chaos

Several new items, no new races, yet. I will tell you that there is a major twist involving the Rod of Order.

No, Vaati was not the original weilder. I haven't decided who it will be yet, if anyone who we know of.

And by the way, I'm not sure on the placement of this, timewise, other than it is within 50 years of WW. Probably 50 years before it.

I like the idea of somebody beating Vaati to Zelda. That's would be a good mystery, figuring out who her rescuer was.

Oh. I thought it was Vaati's because "he broke the Rod of Order as his own rod had been once", or something like that.

Re: Legend of Zelda: The Rod of Chaos

Oh. I meant the rod he currently possessed. I was his at the time he broke the RoO.

Edit: And since you find out who her rescuer is fairly quickly:

It's this game's incarnation of Impa, who also acts as Link's sword trainer.

Re: Legend of Zelda: The Rod of Chaos

I've now decided to list the game's major characters, and the items.

Characters

Link - Link appears in this game in his first cell shaded adult appearance. He is the carpenter of Florana Village, the only town on Florana Island. He has never been off the island.

James - James is a pirate captain, but ironically, he is rather helpful. he agrees to give Link a lift to Kakariko Island for the Gathering of the Sea, and winds up being his traveling companion, and Link's very method of travel. He also gives Link his second sword

Peggo - Peggo is James' parrot, and he serves three roles. The sarcastic bird acts as the game's Navi, comedic relief, and later, the game's warping system. (This is explained in the Items Section)

Nepp - Nepp is the bumbling, eager to please, Rito postman, Link encounters him several times on his adventure, and he brings letter to Link when they are needed.

The Mayor - The Mayor of Florana Village is getting on in his years, and after a heroic act of bravery by Link (He saved some little girls) he chose Link to go to the Gathering of the Sea instead.

Kerito - Kerito is the father of the two little girls Link saves early on the game. He was the village carpenter, but Link took over when his girls were born. He gives Link the wooden sword, Link's first sword.

Impa - Impa used to be Zelda's royal caretaker, but once Zelda took charge of the Western Sea, Impa moved to Kakariko Island and became the cheif storyteller there. When Zelda suddenly appeared, falling through the roof of her house, she took care of Zelda once more. She teaches Link every sword move besides the horizontal and vertical slash. (He already knows these, and Kerito reviews them before Link saves the girls)

Zelda - Zelda is the ruler of the Western Sea, and when Vaati took over, she found herself falling through the roof of Impa's hut. She is badly injured from her fall, but if you talk to her, she gives you pointers on where to go or what to do next.

Flisk - A young, cheery Anouki who becomes your biggest fan once you round up the White Wolfos, and leads you to the Caverns of Frost.

Items

Wooden Sword - This sword is gained from Kerito at the start of the game, in order to save his daughters. It can only kill rats and keese, and other small, suckish enemies in one hit.

Pirate's Blade - The Pirate's Blade is give to Link by James upon his arrival at Kakariko Island. It has twice the attack power of the Wooden Sword.

Rod of Order (No Power) - Once Link completes the first four dungeons, he has the four physical parts of the Rod of Order. By assembling them, he realizes the rod is a sword. It has twice the attack power of the Pirate's Blade

Rod of Order (Full Power) - The last four dungeons involve Link collecting the four mystical parts of the RoO. Once he has these, his blade has the power to defeat Vaati. It is 1.5 times as strong as the RoO (No Power)

Bombs - Bombs return, and they can be hit while in the air (They are targetable) with other items for an amazing effect. Hit them with an arrow, and they explode in the air, while the boomerang will carry them to another destination. The hookshot propels them straight forward.

Zora's Bow - Found in the water temple, the Zora's Bow resembles one of today's compound bows. It can be shot underwater, and even while swimming.

Boomerang - The Boomerang works much the same as it did in TP, without the wind. However, it it targetable, and shooting it with an arrow will cause it to do another lap around you. Doing this repeatedly will cause it to orbit you, which is needed for certain puzzles. Hitting it with the Hookshot pulls it straight back to you.

Zora's Amulet - This lets you breathe underwater, and eliminates the need for air while using the Iron Boots or the Flippers. It is not needed to complete the game, but a speedrun is the only reason you should not get it.

Zora's Flippers - Before getting these, Link could swim on the surface of the water, afterwords, he could dive and swim gracefully like a Zora. He puts them on automatically when entering the water.

Iron Boots - They're back, and they are magnetic. 'Nuff said.

Phantom Helm - A gold helm, shaped a bit like the golden headpiece on the Zora Armor in TP. It turns your form intangible, allowing you to walk through certain walls, traps, and fight certain enemies. Normal enemies cannot harm you, but later in the game, things as strong as ghost Darknuts will appear, and certain enemies will start carrying both normal and ghost weapons.

Roc's Feather - While equipped to any of the buttons, the little feather goes in the little folded over brim of Link's cap. When you jump or glide with it, it glows slightly. While in the air, you can drop bombs or swing your sword.

Super Pet Food - The Super Pet Food is acquired after a trading sequence, and you feed it to Peggo. Once he eats it, he grows huge and can fly the boat to any island you have visited. The catch? You can only hold 10 servings. The character who makes it is in you debt enough that he will give you more for free, though, so always use your last serving to return to the Trader's Chain. (Where said character lives.)

Hookshot - It's back, and it latches on to chests and trees again! And Link hangs from it like the Clawshot. While hanging, he can use his sword, bombs, or his boomerang.

Boko Wand - The short wand can cause Boko vines to entagle the targeted object. It obviously has combat uses (Though larger enemies get free faster) but it can be uses to solve puzzles, like making a bridge out of two sticks spanning a gorge. As a side note, if used on a Boko Scrub (The Great Sea Version of Deku Scrubs) they will giggle and gleeful spin around and throw off the vine. All other NPC's will just shake them off.

That's all for now.

Islands

Here I will list some of the major islands.

Islands

Kakariko Island - Kakariko is to this game what Windfall is to WW. It is a medium sized island with a decent sized town (Kakariko, duh) on it. It has a field to the west of town where there is a fishing hole and a minigame run by a man named Salvatore.

Florana Island - This is the island where Link starts his adventure. It is shaped like an irregular crecent with a tiny island in the lagoon the crecent forms. Florana Village is stuated on the crecent, with an underground tunnel out to the small island, where the mayor likes to fish. In the beginning of the game, Kerito's two small daughters swim out to the island and are attacked by Rats. Kerito gives Link the wooden sword, and Link fights his way thorugh the Rat and Keese infested tunnel to the island, and saves the girls.

The Trader's Chain - This is actually an archipelago. Its inhabitants trade more often than they use rupees, and this is where the trading sequence to get the Super Pet Food occurs. When you arrive, James gives you the Pirate's Dagger to trade with, and you end up trading with almost all of the inhabitants.

Palace Isle - The Castle of the Western Sea is located here. It acts as the location of the final dungeon.

Boko Forest - The island where the Boko Scrubs live. The Boko Scrubs are upset because the Corrupted Guardian has destroyed the bridge to their temple.

Zora's Reef - The few Zoras left on the Great Sea live on this reef. On this island, there is no land above the surface, only land shallow enough to wade in. The Zoras are unaware that a guardian lives in the deepest part of their reef, and the entire reef is a dungeon which focuses mainly on puzzles and talking with the Zoras. There are very few enemies in this underwater city.

Mount Pyrollis - Mount Pyrollis is the volcano home of the Gorons. They have been driven from their mountainside home by the Corrupted guardian, and they need the help of Link.

Rito Tower - The Rito tower streches high from the small island and is the only place from which you can gain entrance to the Sky Palace, the next dungeon.

Anouki Isle - The Anouki defend the temple of this isle, and you must convince them to let you by before you can enter this temple.

A Dungeon list is coming soon!

I like the idea of being able to use your sword and whatnot while dangling from the Hookshot's chain. It would open up some never before seen gameplay possibilities.

I agree, however, I didin;t include it in this game because I didn't want the Oocca in it, and the Dominion Rod basically requires that.

Re: Legend of Zelda: The Rod of Chaos

Very cool idea, I'd play it if it were a game. I've been wanting another console WW-type game.

About the original weilder of the RoC: Majora. He/it basically got kicks out of causing pain and chaos to people, so it would make sense that he/it would have it, and he/it did want to wreck everything, throwing the world into eternal chaos. So if he/it had the RoC, it would make sense, and his/it's arch-nemesis would be Order.

Also, I'm glad this game has Rito and Zora, which would disprove the Zora=Rito nonsense.

And...anyway Minish would fit into this?

On the Minish, probably not, and I had thought of Majora, maybe the long-ago hero cast it into Hell, where she (I subscribe to Hylian Dan's Theory) waited until the Stone Tower Builders freed her.

Dungeons

What follows is a brief overview of each dungeon, how to acess it, and what item it contains. Bosses and Minibosses will be explained in another section.

Dungeons

The Caverns of Frost - The Caverns of Frost make up the first dungeon Link comes to. It is a rather traditional dungeon experience, with the exception of the ice, which makes many areas slippery. When you first come to Anouki Isle, the Anouki distrust all outsiders, as the last time one came (Vaati), their chief (And secretly a guardian of a Chaos Fragment) vanished. To get in, Link must earn their trust by herding up some White Wolfos on the island, adn penning them in, protecting the village from them. When he has done so, a young Anouki named Flisk guides you through the blizzard to the caverns. The item is the Hookshot. The Miniboss is the Freezard Centurion, and the boss is the Spiny Snow Ape, which when defeated, changes back to the Anouki Chief.

Goron City - The Goron City is just that, a Goron City, overrun by minsters. It has a large, central chamber, and many small side chambers that seem more like a normal dungeon. Link was given bombs by the exiled Gorons, and uses them to blast away rubble, and return the city, more to normal. (It is only completly restored when the Gorons move back in.) The item is the Iron Boots. The Miniboss is a Goron Golem (Made of Gorons still trapped in the city) and the boss is Gorongo, who returns to his true form when he is defeated.

Zora Reef - Zora Reef is a very, very, very unorthodox dungeon, where you need to trade, do favors for, and make friends with the Zora to reassamble the boss key. There is almost no fighting, (Other than an "extermination" favor) instead, the dungeon focuses on tough puzzles, and solving a city's problems (The Zoras all wear amulets that are supposed to ward off problems, and when you make the problems go away, they give the amulets to you. The amulets form the Big Key) The items are the Zora's Bow and the Zora's Flippers, and the Zora's Amulet is also for sale in this dungeon. There is no miniboss, and the boss is Jabunax, who returns to being Jabun when defeated.

Phantom's Haunt - This dungeon, another rather traditional dungeon, is this game's obligitory death/zombie themed dungeon. It is found under a gravestone in Kakariko Graveyard. The item is the Phantom Helm. The Miniboss is the Poe Army, and the Boss is Deathsword. Entrance is gained by reading a book in the library, telling you the grave's location.

To be continued later.

Dungeons cont.

Temple of the Forest - This temple is where the Boko Scrubs worshipped and cared for the guadian, but when he was corrupted, the guadian destroyed the bridge to to temple from Boko Forest, and blocked off the entrance. The Boko Scrubs can still fly over to the entrance, but can't get through the barrier. No one with bombs can get over there, and to make matters worse, the Boko Queen has lost her scepter! The obese queen tells you it was stolen by a Bio Boko Baba. Link hunts down the mobile plant, and after killing it, retrieves the scepter. The queen says that it can be used to regrow the vine bridge, and presents it to you. You now have the Boko wand! Regrowing the bridge, you then bomb open the entrance, and enter a single, tall room. What? You look up and see a small, one eyed creature hanging from the ceiling, and you must solve many puzzles in the single room to acquire the Big Key and restore some broken machinery. Restoring this machinery (In the process gaining a nifty boomerang) allows you to enter the center of the ground floor, where you make you r boomerang orbit you to power up the mechanism that opens the roof. The boos then falls into the big center of the room and you fight. The miniboss is a Lizafols Knight, and the boss is the Vine Leviathan

Creeper's Catacombs - These catacombs can be found unerneath Florana Island. They are incredibly labryinthine, and difficult to navigate. It's highest level is more than 5oo feet underground and it has 5 levels. They have a huge main shaft runnig through all 5 levels at at least one point. And they're dark. Fire arrows are gained in this dungeon. The miniboss is a Wart, and the boss is Gomess.

Sky Palace - To gain entrance to this dungeon, you have to have Nepp vouch for you, easy enough, just send a letter, and when you get a reply, he will vouch for you. But you can only send letters to certain characters, and only certain ones will write back. But other than that, it's easy enough. Then you climb the tower and get to the Sky Palace. It's a fairly normal dungeon, but there are no walls. The item is Roc's Feather. The miniboss is the Guay Swarm, and the boss is the Sky Whale.

City of the Lost - The city of the lost can be found under the sea, and you can get transported there from Kakariko Island, and it's a strange, oddly high tech city, that was buried until the waters of the flood washed away enough debris for the shield projectors to come back online. This odd skyscraper cityscape makes up the last of the normal dungeons, and it takes lace on the deserted city streets and in certain buildings. The enemies are mainly city defense drones of different models. The miniboss is Defense Drone Prime, and the boss is Defense System Core (The guardian became a computer virus) The item is the Thunder Arrows.

The Castle of the Sea - The last dungeon. Just a short little dungeon leading to Vaati. No miniboss. Bosses are Vaati, Vaati Enraged, and Vaati's Final Effort.

Plot Summary coming next.
