A book Zelda should take a leaf out of...
Lord of the Rings
Think about it, it translates really well. Hylians are men, ignorant of the evil that threatens them. Minas Tirith is Castle Town. Link is their hero, one of them that will rise above the others to defeat Ganon, the main evil power to threaten the world. I do think that the next Zelda should take a much more realistic approach to the story. Instead of fighting monsters, it should be the Gerudo, the desert people that wish to invade their Hylian neighbours. Scrap the Gorons and Zoras, and limit the magic to the Triforce (or, at most, the Master Sword) What do you think? |

Lord of the Rings has been milked for content by every genre of literature and entertainment since the 'sixties. I say, once the Hobbit films come out, may the series rest in peace.
What Zelda needs is some O to the Rigonality.

I really meant to give the Hylians a little bit of resilience against the looming threat of destruction. TP for example, the castle is inside a big forcefield, and just outside, town life carries on as normal. Give the Hylians a bit of gritty knowledge, let them live in fear as an unkown malice silently creeps over their land.
Show the knights of Hyrule to be noble, wanting to protect the land and people they love, instead of bumbling fools that throw children out of castle gardens. |

Also, if you want an LoTR game, just buy one. Or, if you don't want a movie adaption, then play the Hobbit, for the GCN. It's really fun.

I don't want a LoTR game, I have two and that Hobbit game. They all suck. That's not the point.
I just feel that should Zelda become more story-driven in the future, LoTR is a good example how to do swords-n-magic fantasy well, and has a lot of good story elements that can be 'borrowed'. And the Goron/Zora thing s more based on my dislike of Gorons. |

You have a fourth grade reading level, don't you. The books are great, dude. Some of the best stuff they left out in the movies, like the Barrow-wights. They're ancient spirits that are so powerful, they make the Nazgul run away. And, also, it's left totally ambigous. It's up to the reader to figure out what they are. Some people theorize that they're dead gods, or the ghosts of kings. But, that's maybe my favorite scene from the books.

Oh come on that is a fourth grade level comeback. I don't like the big long book, I must be a pleb. That deduction you proposed is incorrect! I like books. Just to get that out there. LOTR has great stuff in it, I just think that it is poorly presented and drags on scenes that don’t need it, (council chapter) - the bain of my life. As for the Barrow-wights, they were left out of the movie because there was no need for another branch of powerful being to complicate things. Like these guys are more powerful than those guys, but then those guys can beat these guys and those guys. If you get me?

Fixed.
Anyway, the funny thing about this is the fact that my little brother who is entering fourth grade wants to read those books.

Really? Assuming I am thinking of the correct chapter, that would have to be among my favourites. The reveal of Saruman's 'true colours' was in that chapter.

Making Zelda like LotR in any way otther than a Fantasy setting is the last thing I want to be done. I was so worried upon seeing the first TP trailer, that it was going to be like LotR... thankfully it was only the Bulblins.
