The great train debate.

Hey guys.

I know a lot of you are upset that LoZ: Spirit Tracks will be using a train as the main mode of transportation. However, you must remember that PH used a steam boat and realistically a steam boat and a locomotive were used in the same time frame, some of the ideas originated in the late 1700s.

While I can understand some of the confusion and skepticism, I am still excited to hear that the people of Nintendo are creating a new game that will be released by the holiday season.

ST was a train wreck to begin with. *slapped for bad pun.*

Re: The great train debate.

All this fuss just reminds me of when WW was first seen, everyone was running around crying “Nintendoz have ruined Zelda!!”… I know because I was one of them. I was proven wrong when I played it and discovered that it was as fantastic as the rest of them. I’m not stupid enough to repeat my mistakes and Zelda has earned my trust enough that my judgement will be reserved until I actually play the game… not because it has a train.

Re: The great train debate.

its time the zelda universe is moving up tech wise. and if people dont like that on one timeline they are becoming more advanced, then they still have the CT to playon. so shazam.

Re: The great train debate.

I have not played PH and of course not ST but I heard you can't really control the ship and I guess yo can not 100% control the train. You can basicly choose go this way and follow it there etc etc. I want a game where you can walk and discover the entire land. I loved WW cause you could go anyway with your boat. I don't want autoskip on the landareas, like "Wanna go to B from A?" And then you skip that time and area. I wanna be able to stear the boat/train myself and get off anywhere. Not sure how ST will be tho since I (don't think anyone basicly) have played it.

Well said. I freaked out too when Zelda went "cartoon" and had Link sailing in a boat. It was something radically new. Why are fans afraid of change? Plus, it's a handheld Zelda, which hardcore gamers don't care about as much compared to the console titles. Everyone is assuming things before the game has even been released... Nintendo will make doubters eat their words I'm sure.

You can control the ship in PH.

In fact, there's a "boss battle" where you have to control it. Just need some skill drawing lines is all... Also, you can go out on your own and discover islands and stuff. Take Dee Ess Island, for example. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of people haven't discovered that one...

I have!
-ahem- Yes, I to was a tad discouraged with the notion of a train. But It's not a big deal, and you can't diss it till you've at least tried it, so I refrain from complaining just yet. Although I also heard something about the main plot having something to do with the train...? That may discourage me, since it sounds a bit silly. But again, I don't know.

How is an electric train worse than any other kind of train?

I would assume because it would mean lots of other modern day things could be included in the game

Right, I see the point. That's another thing, if there are trains and steamboats and stuff how come Link still has to hack away with his sword? (Not that I would like anything else, it just doesn't make sense)

Re: The great train debate.

I think they're going for a Final Fantasy 9 styled different rate of development of technology to our world kinda thing. I think they will always have swords just as FF has done but they may need to move on technology wise to keep the game fresh, I trust them to keep the balance right. The only time I'll lose my trust is if I play the game and find out its bad, but they've done a lot of drastic changes and still to my mind haven't put a foot wrong (ignore Zelda 2 side scroll ).

Re: The great train debate.

Bombchu's seem to be a big improvement from regular bombs. We'll probably go through the whole game with high-tech bombchu's.

Re: The great train debate.

I like the train better than the ship, because on the ship all you saw was the sea. On the train, you see other things. I don't see what the big deal is.

The deal is you can only move on the tracks there for destroying the Zelda element of exploration.

Re: The great train debate.

Pimpslap, PH had you explore the various islands why can't you be content with exploring the locations the train can take you too? Honestly just because you can't reach certain areas outside of the trains doesn't mean there won't be any exploration. On the topic of tech i'd like to point out that a train is actually no more advanced than a steamboat or a cannon that shoots you to a FLYING CITY! SOMETHING THAT WE DON'T EVEN HAVE YET! Besides the trains is emmiting fairy dust.
