O.o I don't know... I was just trying to explain overuse of a character does have a negative effect unless you continue to have that character evolve throughout the series, which Nintendo hasn't really done yet, but hopefully they will with the next Zelda if Ganny is present. If not then I'd prefer they just left him out of the series for a while.

If Link were to be in it, it would also be cool if Vaati came into play and Link and Ganon had to put their differences aside to team up and defeat him, only to have a sequel for the two to resolve their relationship as rivals. I know, I've put quite a bit of thought into this.
There's a problem: Miyamoto isn't bothered about Zelda's storyline; only the gameplay. I support what you're saying and would love to see that kind of character development, but Miyamoto barely thinks or bothers about where the storyline goes, and he prefers it not to go to deep and just stay on a basic story level.

Re: Should Ganondorf become an anti-hero instad of villain?

yeah, I kinda realized that after the 4th interpretation of A Link to the Past named Twilight Princess :p

but yes, the gameplay has always been a strongsuit for the franchise and I, along with everyone else on these boards, have no argument there. I also have considered that Miyamoto will probably never mix things up so to speak, especially with a game idea such as this, but he definately cannot go on with keeping Ganondorf in the same role without agitating fans in the process.

Re: Should Ganondorf become an anti-hero instad of villain?

Picture it...

Link fighting against a powerful new foe. Yet a mysterious group of warriors lurk in the shadows aiding Link every now and then. The warriors turn out to be Ganondorf's minions fighting under his command.

In the end, it is the Hero of Time and his legendary enemy that save Hyrule.. Ganondorf's motives being that of a selfish man still seeing Hyrule as his own for the taking.. But at least it gives the character a little more range.

Re: Should Ganondorf become an anti-hero instad of villain?

Ganondorf is the King of Evil, nobody can match him except the Hero. There really is nobody who can be eviler then him. Vaati especially has been proven to be oneof Ganondorfs tools.

Also, Ganondorf isn't overused yet. His character still has a long way to go regarding background, motives and a multitude of other factors. He can be in the next Zelda, but obviously he has to be there as much as Zant was in TP.

And for those who think Miyamoto cares nothing for storyline, you are clearly wrong. Obviously he knows storylines are important, but he prioritises gameplay over story.

Re: Should Ganondorf become an anti-hero instad of villain?

I say, make one game where the player can use Ganondorf, then retire him(for a while)...

I would really like to see Ganondorf portrayed as a fighter for his people, rather than a power-hungry tyrant... I have this idea where the king of Hyrule steals something very valuable from the Gerudos and Ganondorf sets out to retrieve it...

In many ways, the entire Gerudo tribe can be anti-heroes... they are theives, and outcasts, but at the same time they have a compassionate side, and pretty much do what they do in order for their people to survive.... So why should Ganondorf be any different? He should be portrayed, at least in one game, in that light...

Re: Should Ganondorf become an anti-hero instad of villain?

That was what he did in OoT. Ganondorf took over Hyrule becuase the desert was killing the Gerudo.

And the king of Hyrule would have to be mentally retarded to steal something from the Great King of Evil.

You're overdoing the King of Evil thing.

It is his title...

And everything we know about Ganondorf puts him as the top dog of the Zelda universe. He pulls his tricks on everyone else.

Vaati, or an entirely new villain could be an anti-hero, but Ganondorf is not anti-hero material.

That's not saying much. He pulls his tricks on some of the dumbest people ever.

Besides, in OoT it says King of Evil... in TP it says DARK LORD... Looks like someone took a drastic downgrade.

Then again, anyone who played TP can see why Ganondorf is no longer -THE KING OF EVILLLL-

I'm not talking about a totally evil Ganondorf, I'm talking about a hero here.... Someone who doesn't lust for power, but is only looking out for his people... Can you truly say that by the end of OoT Ganondorf was looking out for his people? Of course not...

Or just a very greedy person... Oftentimes, greedy people are so full of lust that they are blinded to any danger... such would be the case of the King of Hyrule... C'mon pal, I'm trying to change the rules a little bit here....

Re: Should Ganondorf become an anti-hero instad of villain?

Lol, Ganondorf was looking out for his peeps. (lol) But as Princess Zelda says at the end, the Triforce corrupted him. (from memory) "Pitiful man...without a strong righteous heart, he couldn't take the power of the gods and...*LE GASP!*" xD Zelda actually makes it seem like he was a somewhat nice guy with greedy thoughts that went crazy after he touched the Triforce.

Which is what he was. Just a relatively normal guy.. Who grew angry at the Kings lack of... Change...

So he grew angry, greedy and baddabing.. Killed all his men, touched the triforce and came down with a server case of Swin flu.

Did he need to? Wouldn't his position as king secure them?

It could happen. But it really just seems silly to me. Not really Zelda at all.
