Lol there are actually people who would rather see a dumbed down Zelda over a futuristic Zelda? lmao Must be TP fans.

OK sure, if the game was excellent in every way, I guess I could look past the futuristic aspect - maybe even look past a sci-fi setting. It's just that I would prefer a futuristic title that still was close enough to the current Zelda "age", for example something that would resemble late renaissance or industrial age. I guess that could fit into the steampunk genre a bit

On the other hand, this is one of the reasons why I would want a spin-off series - to experiment.

Re: Which would "ruin" zelda more?

In order;

1- Making the series casual = I like the challenges that the older games like ALttP posed, I dislike the more casual direction it is currently taking as seen in TP (which at the same time tried to be another OoT) with the exception of the DS Zeldas

2- Keeping traditional = I would like originality in Zelda and sticking to traditional methods is not the way forwards

3- Dumbing down the story = I quite like the story despite it not being really deep

---

Others I would like to address

- Futuristic Zelda = Just because FF7 has magic and technology, doesn't mean its what a 3D Zelda would be like. Infact it is completely different to how it would be like. Personally I would like a futuristic Zelda, not a futuristic world with Zelda in it like most people imagine

- Making the game a different genre = As long as its well done and they return to the old genre at least from time to time, I have no problem with it

- Optional VA = As long as its optional, I have no problem

- Female or non-Link character = If its female, I would like the option of choosing as there is not much point on picking a different gender if there is no choice. As for a non-Link character, just keep the qualities that make Link a "link to the player" and that would be great

Re: Which would "ruin" zelda more?

To everyone talking about a futuristic Zelda

A futuristic Zelda is the Zelda world further ahead in time so it will develop its technologies and invent new ones from the knowledge they have. Magic itself would greatly influence it.

Our world with Zelda themes is not what a futuristic Zelda would be like as we have gone on a completely different path than they would because we have different technologies and lack magic and monsters and such

I mean casual as in wii sports-like, not easy.
It has already been stated by the developers that Zelda will be Wii Sports-like - in the sense that it will use the same controls.

In terms of "dumbing-down" the story and "casual Zelda", I guess I'm saying that these things have already more or less happened.

I don't know that any of these would ruin the story, especially not a female player character.

After all, where in canon does it say the Hero of Time is always male?

On the Pedestal of Time there are the words "Only one who is pure of heart and has a penis may wield the holy Master Sword"

Though there is only one Hero of Time and that is OoT Link. The only other Link I know of that has a title is WW Link who is Hero of the Winds

Re: Which would "ruin" zelda more?

I would like to adress something with the "making Zelda into another genre option". While I don't want to see a zelda RTS or anything, it would be cool if certain parts of the game had elements from other genres.
For example, it would be awsome if Zelda had 3D platforming elements like Prince of Persia or Tomb Raider, or if some sections had stealth areas based on MGS or Splinter Cell (and something cooler than just hiding under a barrel).

Dumbed down =/=dumbed down storyline.

If they made Zelda futuristic, it's as if they were making a new series altogether. I mean, there are times when clinging to tradition is bad, but we have to draw the line somewhere...

And one of the reasons I like Zelda is because of its simple stories and unparalleled gameplay (IMO). Make the story more complicated, and all of a sudden people start jumping off the Zelda bandwagon when Zelda starts jumping on the "Deep Storyline" Bandwagon.

EDIT:

I'd like to add that 13 of you seem to have misinterpreted the word "Casual". A "Casual game", by definition, is one that's able to be played on a casual basis, but is not restricted to it. Therefore it needs to be accessible, and why is that a bad thing?

As far as I know, Super Mario Galaxy is a good example of Nintendo making one of their core franchises "Casual". Since "Casual" is just an insulting way of saying "accessible", this could actually be true...

That would be kick ass. I'd love to see a zelda with Assassins Creed like platforming.

As long as the game isn't centred around this type of platforming.

Female Link...that would be unforgivable.

Futuristic Zelda would be a close second worse. I don't even want to have to think about either one of those options.

Yeah. They could make a few puzzles be like that, but not have you doing that kind of stuff while just trying to travel from one town to another. In Warrior Within, the whole game was like one big platforming obstacle course with enemies here and there.

Not that that wasn't fun, but it's not Zelda.

Re: Which would "ruin" zelda more?

The worst things that could be done, IMO, are as follows:

Dumbing down the story
Making the gameplay easy/casual
Keeping every Zelda untraditional

Re: Which would "ruin" zelda more?

I would like to pick everyone of the choices. But in regards to breaking tradition with the Zelda series, I think having a more mature Link that is similar to male video game characters like (PoP, Assassins Creed, God of War and so on) would be great for me. A more Pg 13 type of Zelda game with more graphic violence would be great and NOT ruin the Zelda series IMO.

Re: Which would "ruin" zelda more?

Why does it have to get more violent? One of the qualities that makes the Zelda series so venerable is that the games are continually gripping, challenging, and entertaining without having to succumb to using the cheap trick of blood'n'guts.
