Because, for the first time in Zelda history, Hyrule was being attacked by an outside force (that is the Twili) that was someone we'd never seen before. Which is what helped make it so awesome and mysterious. The Twili and Zant were new enemies that no one but Midna, a Twili herself, knew how to defeat. Then we found out that the real enemy was our age old buddy Ganondorf, who is decidedly from Hyrule, even if from the more secluded desert part of it. That's how the momentum of the whole game was reversed.

Also, like I said, he only was insane after (not the appearance, but) the mention of Ganondorf. It was just before your battle with him that he revealed how Ganondorf was involved, then he went crazy. Before that, he was a sinisterly methodical villain. Hardly a mark of insanity.

Up until his death. Then he was replaced by Ganondorf. The whole point of Zant's character, that being trying to reclaim what once belonged to his people by invading Hyrule, was completely turned around when it was actually Ganondorf who just wanted to rule Hyrule as a god showed up.

He wasn't alive. I think it was Zant, in death, severing the connection that he and Ganondorf had. Or it very well could have been some dream, vision, or hallucination of his. I highly doubt Zant was alive, though.

Zelda kissed Link at the end of AoL, and after the linked ending of the Oracle games. If playing the order OoS-OoA, the Mako Tree will actually cry when this happens.

In both games, heart bubbles appear above their heads. Though in OoX it is just shown as a small scene, whereas in AoL the curtain comes down while this is happening. So, as far as we know, more than kissing very well might have already happened in a Zelda game.

Yes, yes we do.

In any case, this whole tangent that we got on (which started with a small comment I made about Ganondorf in TP, turned into a debate about Zant's purpose in the same game, and then ended with AoL Zelda and Link getting it on) can actually tie into the main topic of the thread, which we terribly deviated from. Someone earlier mentioned that they were tired of seeing ZeLink, to which someone else said that it's never been done, so how could it be tiring. However, ZeLink was pretty severely hinted at in OoX, and was pretty much confirmed in AoL, so it has been done before.

^*is totally NOT trying to make up for the absolutely purposeless topic deviation he was just involved in*

we did get way off topic. i actually got confused what thread i was posting on!

I've always supported the sentiment that the player is Link and that they should be able to 'come up' with the pairings come the end of the game...

In this way I find that while options of romance become limited and more so hinted at, it does allow the player to submerge themselves more in the game...

But in respect of Zelda, I do believe that her position among the love interests in one that has been somewhat, overlooked and missed out upon, except in some titles.

So while I do like the current 'romance' system in the games (such as OOT) I do feel that the process needs reform.

You, sir, have just pointed out the fundamental element of Zelda, which makes any argument dealing with change an exercise in futility. How does one progress and change a game whose very core and essence is the idea that the player has their experience through the protagonist? Would not any change be a way of forcing the player into feeling or thinking something they may not want to about the game?

But then if a series does not change, how can it possibly continue itself and draw new fans? It cannot perpetuate itself into monotony, for no new fans would be drawn to it, and old ones would be alienated.

How, then, does one both honour the essence of the game, and recognize the need for change? Would not the act of one compromise the other? It is a dilemma. One which I still have found no real solution for.
