Rrrromance?

What is with the silent protagonist bull that Miyamoto seems to get a big hard-on about? Why can't he just make a damn LoZ or Mario game with voice acting and developed characters? I never ever felt connected in any way, shape or form to either Link or Mario. I only feel connected to characters like Revan and The Exile (KotOR), Fable dude, and other characters like that because I COULD CUSTOMIZE THEM AND MAKE MY OWN PATH! I can't do that with Link or Mario because they have a set look and story.

you can change Link's name to your own, so there's customization for ya (not a lot though), and you don't have to talk to everyone, solve everyone's problems, do all the sidequests, and explore certain locations to get heart pieces in Zelda, so its not a 100% set story. Link is a mix b/w an avatar and character.

Yeah that's true, but he's still depicted as being an "avatar" by Miyamoto. Personally, I'd prefer if Nintendo would choose either avatar or character because right now it's in a position where the avatar side of Link is preventing the character side of Link from being developed. He should either be customizable to have whatever personality and looks we want him to have or he should be a set character with a set developed personality and look, not some half-ass attempt to combine the ideas creating a dull character. As much as I love the series, that's it's biggest flaw that hopefully will be fixed in the next game.

Yes...lets try to stay on topic. Though I agree with you 100% pownnoob, questioning the infallible wisdom of buddha god Miyamoto and his flawed avatar concept is sure to draw a needless flame attack from a random rabid diehard Zelda fan who probably wears a cos play Link outfit when he/she plays Zelda. As I have said before...I have never once pretended to want to be Link anyway. So I think new Wii Link with a more fleshed out mature character/personality would make sense for a possible realistic romantic relationship within the storyline.

Yeah um, romance is the last thing Zelda needs. Add romance of any kind and I would abandon the series completely.

It's such a small part of the game that it doesn't matter. It's also not mutual.

But really, Zelda doesn't need more story. If TP is anything to go by (even though TP is the second best Zelda), it needs less story.

Well if Link is portrayed as the same old pure hearted boy or unusually shy & lame teenage eternal virgin then romance in the storyline would be plain silly. At least having him portrayed as a REAL MAN, romance would at least make some type of sense. But if you would prefer Link to always be a shy & lonely eternal virgin always I guess its just a matter of opinion.

Well, I really like Link's innocence...Link should always have a boyish charm. Though he should definitely lose the awkwardness that was kinda present in Twilight Princess...

There is one scene near the end that makes me crack up everytime, Zelda's being really serious and then they show Link and he has the goofiest smile on. And it's sooo random saying how the scene right before he was steaming mad with revenge.

Well I'm one of those fanboys that wanted to choke OOT Link for giving back the ocarina to Zelda without much of an argument. Makes me want to go GRRRRRR every time I think about it. I also didn't like how TP Link was so passive when Ilia took Epona away. With that said I understand how Link's inherent boyish innocence makes the fangirls either squeal with delight or go Awwww Link is SOOOOOOO adorable.

Well, it seems to be very common for Link to have everyone walk all over him, particularly girls. When you don't have a voice you have no say...at all. Simply put. And I like Link's passive attitude because it's a lot like mine.

(though I too wanted to P-slap Ilia during certain...scenes)

Really?? You seem to be a well spoken and assertive debater. I would not think for someone like you to be passive based on your usually well written arguments. But yeah..I think Link's boyish innocence has its place, despite that I think its sometimes annoying and that it hinders him from being as macho manly as I want him to be.

Lol, it's a lot different to voice an opinion as an anonymous person who would probably never be intimidated by a flame war. It's the internet. It's completely different from someone big and scary saying "You suck" in real life...in that situation I'd probably be like "Yeah, I know."

Seriously though Link takes crap from every chick he's ever met and sometimes he gets fed insults by random characters...and he's just like "Ah, that's okay."

This is why I have trouble imagining Link as being more manly even though I want him to have more personality. One thing I want him to be is more assertive around chicks. He should make them want him! }

ARRGGHH!!! And that is what I find annoying about Link's in game character. If he was more like a traditional male hero that walks around with a sword and shield that crap would never happen. Now you got me thinking about how I always hated how OOT/MM Link with Navi, Zelda/Shiek, Tatl and other NPC's and TP Link with Midna and Ilia in that one situation, had plenty of dialogue with barking orders down Link's throat with lots of exclamation points at the end of sentences in the actual in game dialogue.

I always felt that the adult OOT/TP Links were treated with no respect as if they were more like children and less like adults. Sure it makes perfect sense with the OOT/TP Link's traditional soft spoken nice guy image but its still annoying IMO. I guess when it comes to the phrase "nice guys finish last in romance" OOT and TP Link are no exception.

Why is it that girls push Link around? Are they blind to the fact the he wears a sword and shield on his back and that he has a slew of other weapons hidden in hammerspace?

If Link actually had some backbone and acted more like a Conan the Barbarian type or a random warring brute from ancient historical times, he would just tell them to shut up, slap em around into submission, and ravage them like a REAL MAN.

But on a more serious note, Link has the potential to be a ladies' man and he should learn how to do that. Maybe he could read a book on it or something?

When it comes to OOT Link, I just think he simply just needs to normally mature into his own man in the Child Timeline and then he probably won't be such a shy and timid little boy around the ladies as he was in the actual game. But for sure TP Link needs to read a book on it.

Yeah, the furthest TP Link is gonna get is his hand but that's neither here nor there. Poor Link, he really needs a girl.
