Cel-Shaded Realism

I know it sounds kinda weird but other game have done it. The last time Zelda made a Cel-Shaded game we got WW and the whole thing was like a big cartoon. Then for TP it went back to the "realistic" way to making the game, but I wondered what would happen if they mixed them together. Like have the game cel-shaded but have the characters look like actual people. I guess a good example would be like No More Heroes or the newer DBZ games. Just wondering how do you think that would look? Would you like it do you think it's a good look for Zelda?

Re: Cel-Shaded Realism

Red Steel 2 is doing something like this as well, a "realistic" comic book setting, so I don't see why it wouldn't work for Zelda, as they have already done the more extreme cartoon style in WW.

I think such a style would be easier for fans to accept than the WW style.

Re: Cel-Shaded Realism

...I don't want it. Too many other games have cel shading with realistic models. If Zelda's going to do something it better be new. Zelda is the trend setter, no other series has been robbed and stolen from like this series. And for good reason, Zelda should do something unique...-er

Re: Cel-Shaded Realism

Well it could alway do TP graphics again. That not at all the most common style. Dark and serious. I'd say cel-shading is way less common.

Nooo, I don't want TP's graphics either. I just want something new. Something that isn't Spirit Tracks II, Twilight Princess II or something that is exactly the same as a game coming out next year. =\ I want something new.

Personally I want a graphics engine from the ground up that is obviously similar to the concept art that was shown at E3. With the vibrance and color of Mario Galaxy and amazing light effects...and nice glowy saturation. Cel-shading doesn't show the depth and lighting that I perfer.

...Well not the character design. xD Just imagine the typical character design that seems to be portrayed in the New Wii Zelda art, now add Hyrule or whatever. Then add the clean and crisp, color and glow of Mario Galaxy...now make the graphics better...and then add amazing light effects with the suns rays bouncing off every ripple of streamed water and anything composed of moisture...That...is how the next Zelda should look. Lol.

I was more reffering to the vibrant colours than the character models.

It would look really nice, but i think they're just going to continue the bland look of TP.

Lol, its not. I like the idea of both.
I'm just saying, Zelda Wii will be neither of the two.

Re: Cel-Shaded Realism

Well...Psh, that makes me sad. I feel like Zelda has to do the extremes of everything. Either super happy bobble-head game or gritty, dark super serious game. I want my freakin' happy medium. xD

Re: Cel-Shaded Realism

I would like cel-shading that replicates the style of the official artwork from Majora's Mask.
Detailed characters with exaggeratedly black shadows.

Re: Cel-Shaded Realism

I've said it before but I'd like a Zelda that had cel shading and an art style that resembles this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g700JxCnQTk

However I know that won't be this game. If any. But I like the art style being exaggerated and if you watch that intro in HD on Blu-Ray you'll see just how clean/colorful it is. And if you have an imagination you can see it being very much mature if done correctly. Would make for a trippy game and would be different.

However, I imagine it will probably look at least as good as Mario Galaxy 2 if not better. If you watch the videos of that online you'll see what I'm talking about. I don't see how it can't be colorful though. All the oldest games in the Zelda series are still quite colorful. It can still use darker shades of colors or wahtever, colorful just means lots of varying colors. Look at Mario Galaxy's water/lava effects and the glossy shine of the lighting on the rocks and then imagine a lava dungeon in Zelda Wii. It should look at least that good.

Check out what i'm talking about here around 2:50 seconds, watch it in HQ as the lower quality distorts it too much:
