Link needs a pet, not a sidekick.

If Epona's not a pet, then what is she? Pets, by my definition, are domesticated animal companions.

And a domesticated animal companion is what Epona is to Link usually. So by definition, she is a pet like I said.

The only game Epona appears in where she is NOT Link's pet is in TMC and there she was merely Malon's cart horse whom you could fuse Kinstones with when Link is Minish size.

If you see it that way, then yes, I am. To be quite honest, I've never seen her as a pet, nor have I ever felt any sort of connection to her, a feeling that spans back to OoT. My reason? Other than being ridden around, she doesn't do much, whereas the dog in Fable II fought with you, reacted to your treatment, found treasure, etc., ergo, much more interesting and something I care much more about.

hey people 1st off u need to stop being f'ing pessimistic 2nd you need to look at what kind of stories can told when included and how you would optimize the gameplay balance w/ 1 included and you need to stop f'ing arguing about wheather or not it should be included when this thread should be about what can be done if a pet was included whatever it might be, its just immature to argue about simple things and about games

Not a dog, I think a wolf, it is similar enough to a dog, but it reflects Link's personality better, and also Fable II makers will say that nintendo 'copied' them

They'd say that regardless. If Zelda ripped off the pet mechanic from Fable II with a different animal, it's still the same mechanic.

I like the idea, but I personally feel like having a pet would ruin Zelda. Link's always been a character who doesn't really develop strong emotional bonds. To have a pet that helps him fight, ect. he would develop a bond and ruin the aspect of the Zelda games.

I think Nintendo should just stick with the horse and hawk, but use them more liberally in their future games. Really all it'd take to use the horse better are more obstacles that you need the horse to cross and a larger landscape in general so that traversing the overworld is difficult without your mount. Some time-sensitive quest objectives in conjunction with this might help as well (perhaps having to get from one place to another before sunset else you get attacked by monsters, etc.).

I can see the hawk being used as a navigational tool, to scout the overworld in your general vicinity - if the hawk finds an item or area related to your mission objective, or a hidden item such as a Heart Piece, it will return to you and the item in question will be marked on your map. The nice thing is that they could avoid letting players abuse this by making hawk grass a rarity in the field. It could also serve as an optional hint system that wouldn't be intrusive to players who don't need it.

Think about it. Link could ride the freaking big bird while shooting arrows FROM THE SKY! And if the bird could breathe fire, it would be even better!

Wouldn't Epona already qualify as a pet?

I would'nt really like it if Link had a pet he could bring inside dungeons to help him fight...we don't need the difficultly of Zelda games getting any easier than they are already. But out on the field it could work if he could ride the animal around, maybe a change to Epona like in OoX with Moosh, Ricky and Dimitri.

Link's pet could be a domesticated Deku Skrub. Now that would be awsome.

I think it would be cool to have a lizard you kept in your bag all the time then in a fight you could you could use it like an item. Like you could pull it out and it would grow into a dondogo or a dragon or something.....i mean it's Zelda anything can happen
