Re: Link needs a pet, not a sidekick.
Yo man. Fable 2 dog was the greatest ****ing thing in that game. He was awesome. He even ghosted some bandits for me. They should just rename the game "Adventures with the Awesome Dog".

Hey now, Link's had a pet before. She was a horse named Epona and she helped him get around Hyrule faster. xP

Re: Link needs a pet, not a sidekick.
Whenever Epona left she was pounding Malon in the ass. Than Link would call and Epona would be all like "Ohhh man...gtg kkz?". After all, why do you think Malon like horses so much.

Know, I'm no expert on animal genitalia...
But inform me how a female horse may pound a female hylian in the ass, you mustn't skip the details, so do explain. ...Whats that? We're all banned?

Re: Link needs a pet, not a sidekick.
Really? A dog is what everyone seems to be comming up with? Consider some things about that idea first.
They have already done the dog thing. You spent half of TP as a wolf. It had it's ups and downs, but the dog has been done. People always seems to be complaining about Zelda becomming repetative, so why does everyone want a repeate of TP? Also, a dog following you around all game would get annoying (see: Ashley Graham). The magic pocket is out of the question if anyone wants this dog to be taken seriously in the least bit. And if it only showed up when it's called, it would raise many questions. "WTF? How did a dog suddenly get into this dungeon I've spent half an hour trudging through?" And if you can't use it in dungeons, then what real use is it? Finaly, I think if a dog were to be used, it would either be useless, or take the fun out of the game. At first thought, it seems like it would make things too easy. Sit on the switch to open the door, puzzle solved. No figuring out how to get something there, or how to keep the switch down. Answer: Dog. Fighting would become a simple game of "sick 'em boy!", and there would probably be some anyoing growling every time an ememy's around. On the other hand, it could prove to be equaly useless. If they tried to avoid the above scenario, I could see something like this. The dog can't do any fighting, or if it could it would have some anoying control scheme so you can controll Link at the same time. It would automaticaly follow Link when he got a set distance from him, eliminating the sitting on button solution. IMO a better pet would be somehting like a Hawk. Now wait, I know what you may be thinking regarding what I said about the dog being done. However, I think the hawk in TP had some really great potential, but was more or less useless save for one part in the story, and maybe a heart piece or two. Imagine if Link had this pet who could help him in a similar manner, but was more readily available. it could be used in dungeons, but to avoid the questions only in parts with an open celing. I think there could be an interesting attack sceme which could be worked out with it as well.

I think it would be cool, you could do puzzles and stuff like that in dungeons.

It's not fable town, are you serious. Goodbye forever.

Re: Link needs a pet, not a sidekick.
As long as Link's pet can't talk, I'm happy. Tricky in SFA was bad enough.
I definitely agree that an animal from the game would be best, though. I mean, dog? Half the dogs out there are tiny things that yip annoyingly. Sure you could always get a bull mastiff or some other huge thing, but where's the fun in that? A Dodongo like Dimitri, or a cool Keaton (best Zelda creature ever ;D ) would be awesome.

Re: Link needs a pet, not a sidekick.
No I havn't (just Fable 1). But this is Zelda not Fable. They may be similar styles of games, but each has it's own themes and gameplay elements to it that make them unique. Just because a dogh works in one does not mean it'll fit well in the other.

Re: Link needs a pet, not a sidekick.
Quote:
Link, while hero, has that quiet, loner sort of image throughout his games... In a way, there is a sorta woe to the character, somewhat like a void existence (that the character is allowed to fill in with themselves) which is lonely and never definite in terms of love interests and moral standards, as this is something the player is allowed to develop as they play. I find this one of the unique points of the Zelda Series, is that while Link is so under developed in some macro-terms, Link could possibly be amongst the most developed in terms of Micro-development as we are allowed to apply our own development. Adding a pet, be it cat, or dog, or dodongo, has this way of stripping this character of some his mystique... cause what if we're not a dog, a cat, or a dodongo guy? Sidekicks are somewhat forced, as the characters are bound by a mutual purpose, but a pet follows the character around, providing not only a sorta annoyance, but the raising of some questions...
