A character death always makes games more epic. It makes the final confrontation with the boss that much more personal.

Zelda should fake her death, and let Ganondorf everything he ''does'' aka conquer hyrule.
While She helps Link without him knowing.
Some of Link's Friends should die, giving Link more of a reason to stop Ganondorf...without excessive angst and hate...
being angsty is too common these days.
