Should Zelda Have More Different Swords?

I was just wondering what you guys think of Zelda having more swords than just the basic sword and the Master Sword. Sure there's the Biggoron sword and the great fairy's sword, but I want more options with different attributes to them like tunics.

Re: Should Zelda Have More Different Swords?

If they could come up with a good reason for needing more I guess but I don't think they really need more.

Re: Should Zelda Have More Different Swords?

Yeah, more swords would be cool.
But NO CUSTOMIZING. And no replacing the Master Sword.

Re: Should Zelda Have More Different Swords?

I think they should have some more swords. OoT and MM handled this well and made the different swords interesting, except for the Fairie Sword from MM - that was just unnecessary.

I honestly think we should take a break from the Master Sword, unless they mix it up a bit.

Re: Should Zelda Have More Different Swords?

yeah if the sword was really useful i'd say yes but just random unnecessary swords isnt cool. also I think they should have some other sword of the triforce that kills anything(almost) in one hit, but it drains money as you use it, just like the armor in TP.

I think we've had the Master Sword plenty already. The more it gets used the less significant it becomes.

I would like more weapons. But only if they felt more different from eachother than just length and strength. Altered moves and speeds or something. Nothing too drastic, I'd just like variety.

Re: Should Zelda Have More Different Swords?

More swords is a good idea for the next Zelda. But no more than a few. The next game might only feature one sword, the girl that is the Master Sword (even though if it isn't proven yet).
But i'd love to see a few extra swords in Spirit Tracks.

Re: Should Zelda Have More Different Swords?

What I'd like to see is something like what MM had again. That is, a blacksmith shop where you can go get swords made. In MM, you could even bring them some gold so that you could get the final sword (and in this case, permanent one). I think it would be interesting to take this concept to a new level.

So, let's say that we've got a blacksmith shop. You can go there and select which metal you want to use (the better it is, the more it costs, obviously). You could have choices like Iron, Bronze, Silver, Steel, Platinum, so on and so forth. There could even be some mystical metals that you had to quest for and bring to them.

After this, you could decide whether the sword would be one or two handed and what kind of sword. Again, each would cost different amounts, and each would have their own weight, speed, damage, so on and so forth. Again, there could be some kind of "mythical" sword plans that you have to quest for and bring them that are superior to the available ones.

Now, this is just a very bare bones sort of thing. There could be all kinds of options. Perhaps certain gems set in the hilt could cause the sword to do elemental damage. Or if the blade was laced with a certain kind of metal, it could have other affects on the foe, such as stunning them, draining their health and giving it to you, etc.

This could even lend itself to some kind of plot point where the Master Sword is either destroyed throughout the course of the game, or was destroyed before the game, and at some point you have to quest for the materials, plans, etc. and have it reforged. So, my vote is yes, there should be more swords in Zelda.

The master sword has had a good run. Maybe it's time to give it a break for a bit.

Re: Should Zelda Have More Different Swords?

This is one of my favorite features of OoT. You actually had a reason to switch unlike in TP, why would you want to use Rusl's sword again?

It needs to make sense. Like with this sword you can't use your shield. You can only use this sword X number of times. This sword can cut through armor but dulls quickly. This sword deals double damage but is half the length of other swords.

Agreed. I'd also like to see one that's weaker but you swing it faster. Or maybe one you can use with your shield up but it's week.
Having a lot of swords would be fun. And adds to the replay ability to me. I liked still have the starting sword in TP. Lets a person make the game harder if they really wanted to.

Re: Should Zelda Have More Different Swords?

Probably overkill but Swordbeams need to make an appearance in Zelda wii. I know you could use it in MM but you couldn't use it in the overworld without glitching. Whether that should come from a specific sword or not doesn't matter.

Picking up fallen enemy's weapons was a cool feature too.

You need to be able to bring enemies weapons around more. Like not out of a dungeon but at least through doors. And yes sword beams need to come back. I don't want them to replace the bow, but I think they would be really cool. (i think you'd have to lock onto an enemy to use it well in 3D. But I never got the sword beams in MM).

Re: Should Zelda Have More Different Swords?

I forgot about enemy weapons!

I loved that feature in WW. I think we should have at least one slot in our inventory to hold any enemy weapon. Would be an interesting twist, I think. Especially if some enemies appear once or twice in a game and have special weapons that you can miss.

The weapons would have to be better balanced than Wind Waker's if we could keep them. The big sword and the spear dominated everything (spin-attack).

Re: Should Zelda Have More Different Swords?

Different swords would be cool. Could really open up some gameplay. Just like the masks in MM, maybe each sword has its own purpose. For some you'd need them to advance in a level, or to defeat a certain enemy. I'd be cool for Nintendo to build on this.

Re: Should Zelda Have More Different Swords?

It'd be nice if you could keep carrying enemy swords around anywhere, but you couldn't use items unless you put it down. If you bring it to some dude, he makes like a pouch or something in Link's hidden bottomless pockets where you keep all your other items.

The way I see it: They have two paths to take, improve the combat so people don't care about other swords, or add other swords so people can have there own style.

Four Sword and Phantom Sword says hi. Master Sword is only irreplaceable if Ganon is in the game but OoX and FSA didn't need it.

Yes, the enemy weapons would have to be designed with this feature in mind. I think it could allow for a broader range of weapons that wouldn't normally be in Link's arsenal
