Like...Assassin's Creed? Please no. I don't want to completely deny the thought of a futuristic Zelda. But when it comes to settings, I'm rather picky. Wind Waker's world that consisted of all oceans was enough to ruin my first playthrough of the game...and my second. But the third playthrough it grew on me.

If there was a Zelda game where, say everything was modernized but the world had leftover ruins and temples from centuries ago, that'd be interesting. The characters could rediscover Hyrule's lost existence and unravel a new mystery. That might be nice, of course I would probably hate it during the first 5 playthroughs but whatever. It happens.

Hmm... I'd give "steampunk" a chance, as long as Zelda successfully retains much of the "past".

That's what I was trying to say.. Outside of the modernized world there's this whole forgotten history with ruins and such.

And tbh, I loved WW's bravery in changing the scenery. It was a much needed change.

Besides, ocean adventures makes me smile.

Re: Do you think there should be a futuristic Zelda game?

Zelda games already have gunpowder (for bombs) so with gunpowder means there should be guns... or those olden day musket guns at least. I don't see what the problem with giving Link a gun is. I think it would be refreshing. He could also have a bow and arrow with fire/ice/light arrows which could be used to defeat certain types of enemies that can't be defeated with a slow, inaccurate gun. I think they should drop the boomerang, slingshot, ball and chain and other useless weapons. Instead concentrate on enemy combat. Give Zelda players a vast variety of enemies to fight utilizing motion controls as well as possible. Make them aggressive and give us magic that we can level up. The higher we level our magic the more spells we can use. Make magic more of a "support" skill that aids sword combat though. For example, at lvl 3 we can use an ice spell that when used gives your sword an ice bonus that slows your opponent down. At level 20 we can use an electric spell that gives your sword an electric power for a short period of time. This might feel "tacky" but I'm sure if Nintendo developed it themselves or even someone here, it wouldn't feel tacked-on.

I think if too much technology was put into a Zelda game, it would sort of make the Zelda series lose its "virginity" to a certain degree - it would feel like theres no going back. But you never know, Nintendo might pull it off right and it will become the new style for Zelda games.

sounds like an RPG to me

but RPG's can make it work

ff6 is a good example. It had machines but i think some of them were powered by magic. And it's only realistic that they develop trains at some point

Yeah I said that there would be an emphasis on combat =)

I can also sort of see a world that is full of technology powered by magic. Even fitting for a Zelda game... clocks, machinery of kinds to dig holes etc. Except, there shouldn't be things like TV screens and stuff like that, it would sort of ruin the medieval feel to it. Machinery should only be in the game for things that are really needed. =)

Then don't play the game

The train was emitting fairy dust, therefore it was powered by magic

Seriously give it a chance. An RPG zelda would be cool

Unless the main protagonist is toon Link

What would happen if Toon Link would (In the RPG zelda) go in a tavern and get drunk.xD
You can do that in some RPGs

Those stories had to go futuristic because they had exhausted their potential in a mainly medieval fantasy setting. The same can't be said for Zelda; it has never tried to exceed the bare minimum required to be what it is. That's pretty descriptive of Nintendo games in general.

To an extent. The gameplay of Zelda has always been good. The modesty of its scripts not so much. Even if we assume they are always writing with a young audience in mind (and they ought to be more mindful of the changing interests and views of the faithful old guard) their scripts still lack ambition. Its scenery and geography are no longer cutting edge either; they are propped up on nostalgia and a few half-hearted improvements.

Re: Do you think there should be a futuristic Zelda game?

I don't know if someone has mentioned this before, but while I definately don't want to see a "futuristic" in the Metroid Prime sense Zelda, I wouldn't mind something of a steam-punk Zelda. That way, it effectively blends advanced technology with a kind of primitive feel, as well as a little touch of magic.

I think that would be pretty neat.

My bad, I thought it had something to do with our sense of the word "futuristic", rather than the sense of the word used for Zelda.

Still, medieval fantasy-esque games hold a certain charm for me, so I can't say I approve of a "futuristic" Zelda by any interpretation of the word.
Dictionary definition
1. of or pertaining to the future: a futuristic view of the world.
Your defintion
Our world with Zelda themes, not the Zelda world further in time.

Dictionary definition
2. ahead of the times; advanced: futuristic technology.
Your defintion
Our technology with Zelda themes, not Zelda technology further advanced. EG; Master Gun

Yup, you don't understand it at all

This is about futuristic Zelda, not our world where everyone is dressed up in Zelda outfits.

I don't know if you have played GTA before but it doesn't have magic in it, one thing that stands out in Zelda
